>>153565364There are debates about only Season 1 being good, 1-2 being good or just 1-3.But it's pretty unanimously agreed that the Season 3 Finale definitively shat the bad because of Kripke's obsession with 5 Seasons (because Supernatural had 5 Seasons with him as showrunner) and they write themselves into a corner when they had The Boys make that quid pro quo with Soldier Boy after fulfilling their promise to help him kill the rest of Payback in revenge and then he honored his part of the deal when they established he is strong enough to actually hurt/kill Homelander.Then they had Queen Maeve hurt him with a metal straw because "Girls Get it Done" (and it would be misogynistic to suggest otherwise and Kripke admitted he had her live due to the "Bury Your Gays" trope like what happened when the killed off that one lesbian chick in The 100 a few years back and he didn't want to get cancelled by the progressive audience he'd been courting over it after the finale aired).Then they had the retarded Butcher turning on Soldier Boy (even though he admitted to Ryan earlier that season he hates his guts for being Homelander's rape baby who also was the cause of his wife's death), yet inexplicably gets all pissy when SB knocks Ryan out of the way instead of telling him the kid is off-limits and they only want Homelander's skull with that stupid Butch/Homelander team-up.None of it makes sense in-universe, but metatextually it does when you remember Kripke and the other writers are borderline retarded and didn't realize they had written themselves into a corner until the very last minute despite having a contract with Amazon for at least two more seasons.As for why the writing dropped off? Season 1 had George Matras as a writer AND a producer for the show and he had previously written for Breaking Bad for Seasons 1-3.

They should've kept comic Butcher's personality on wanting the downfall of all superheroes, one by one, and focused on the "divide and conquer" premise that they promised and hinted at with Translucent. Hyping up every single season finale to, "WILL HOMELANDER FINALLY DIE?" is going to make audiences not give a shit after the fourth psych out. We should've been seeing the slow demise of Vought while the heroes drop like flies. Every few episodes, another hero dies, leaves, gets redeemed, or whatever. We're going in the exact opposite direction where Homelander has been gaining so much power, influence, ground, and strong allies that I genuinely don't know how the fuck they're going to stop him other than with some bullshit unsatisfying asspull. The threat is just too big now for it to be anything other than some deus ex retardation. And really, even when they do kill him, they have built him up to be such a fucking tormented soul I can't see audiences cheering for death. It's gotten to the point where it's like shooting a poor, rabid dog rather than snuffing the lights out of a piece of shit psycho who does it for the love of the game. They made such a big mistake in creating reason as to why Homelander is so fucked up instead of allowing for just pure malice in his heart. I can't decide if the writers fucking love Homelander and that's why they've made him so interesting and tragic, or if he's their little Trump parody and they want to watch him suffer. It's like two different groups of people are writing for him and one side desperately wants him to find some inner peace while the other wants him to get raped with a broom because they think it's funny.
