Making a new dewback effect where there was already a dewback effect isn't any different from improving the lightsaber blades. Keep in mind Star Wars is one movie that took a guy 30 years to make. Bringing elements from 1977 to the same level of the last parts to be finished to make it visually consistent actually makes sense.
