you can see hints of in the comics they released
>Azula's redemption arc
>search for Zuko's mother, who has amnesia
>Zuko and Aang having a political dispute over Aang wanting to deport the firebenders from the colonies, and realizing that some firebenders have intermarried with earthbenders
>Aang deciding to found Republican City
Honestly, the idea of Earthbenders and Firebenders marrying kinda weird considering it is completely absent from the show

i've read a bit of the comics and honestly i feel like it would be better to make a spin off show to adapt them, especially whit how much they focus in Azula and Zuko
