>Show supposed to take place in the year 3000>Full of 90s references, pop culture and dated technology like Farnsworth telling the crew to get off the Internet so he can use the phoneHonestly its really distracting in retrospect when trying to watch this series in 2026. It feels more like a TV show set in 2001 with robots and aliens
>>153591300that's the joke. it's not the future, it's futuRAMA like the old-timey world's fair versions of the future, but the 2000 version of that.beats the fuck out of the revivals where they were trying to do UP TO THE MINUTE jokes instead of more broad 'hey remember that from the last decade or so?' jokes.Pauly Shore is hilarious, and part of Fry's former life, something he can relate to. random fat scottish singer lady is not.
>>153591300The Hulu season maked a covid reference and everyone shits on that
>>153591300Honestly you can't be too harsh, most humans have a poor grasp of time in living memory and can't make accurate guess couple years into the future, let alone deep time. So why should writers of Futurama even bother to try ?
>>153591353Pauly Shore is now working as an uber driver>https://x.com/MAGA_X_Times/status/2045965858241917145
>>153591536man good for him, he handled that like a champ. imagine life spitting you out like that. poor guy. I'd cast him in basically anything. I wish I was making something right now. I'd call his ass right up.
>>153591300we've heard enough about your tiny penis, OP
>>153591300>WHY ISN'T THIS SHOW SET IN THE FUTURE TIMELESSwhy didn't your mom swallow you
>>153591300That's the entire appeal of the series you goofball
what did he mean by this???
>>153591300>anon expects the future to be betterLolLmao even
its a show for people who eat wal mart food like Mrs Bairs Bread, American Cheese, Poptarts, and Fritolay productsIn other words, retards
>>153591300>Honestly its really distracting in retrospect when trying to watch this series in 2026Maybe it's because i was born in 2002, but all the 90s references seemed broad enough to feel natural. It's the jokes about covid and NFTs and Squid Game in the newer seasons that distracted me. Something about trying to be super topical with a year of delay is really eyeroll worthy. Like yeah, i remember NFTs, i remember covid, i remember Squid Game, i heard all possible jokes about those subjects a year before the episodes released. I wonder if that's how people felt about the show back during seasons 1-5
>>153591300All retrofuturism is framed around the reference point of it's time. It's usually just that period with fancier versions of the tech available then, esp. if it's parody where it's somewhat on purpose.
>>153591300So, you're complaining a show made in the early 2000's and made for people in the early 2000's wasn't made to appeal to people in 2026? This seems like a you problem more than anything.
>>153591353>>153592436What these anons said. Futurama was conceived as a '90s/early 2000s depiction of what a "high-tech future" would look like, which is why it should've stayed a 2000s sitcom and never made its way to the 2020s somehow. Similarly, Brad Bird's new film is "an alternate future imagined from 1939." It's all fiction functioning primarily off aesthetics at the end of the day, so don't think about it too hard.
culture just end in 2004 anyway
>>153592493I'd say 2008-2012, but yeah

>>153591300This shit was never funny.
>>153593906Thanks Obama!
>>153591300>dated technology like Farnsworth telling the crew to get off the Internet so he can use the phoneThe joke is that broadband was starting to become common the late '90s and some of the people writing Futurama were probably already using it at that point. Obviously dial-up isn't going to be around in 1000 years, but old people will probably still be the slowest to adopt new technology.
