Most show runners take a good long break after their show wraps. This was the case with Terrace, Sugar, Hirsch, Ward, Nefcy, JQ, Braly, etc.

Another thing to mention is that Amazon isn't that far off from how Netflix handles its shows. All the aforementioned forgotten shows were picked up for 16 episodes each and then split into 2 "seasons." Netflix does the exact same thing.

I think the stop-motion elements would have been for the bgs and sequences featuring live-action like the test animation showed.

That wasn't the reason it didn't succeed but it couldn't be brought back now when conspiracy theories have pushed over from something fun to not take too seriously to something that regular moms and office Joes discuss with sincere belief.
