Mothers are a central topic in The Mountain King, it's a Mothers Day perfect movie choice! What other animation movies have the Mother theme or are great for watching today with your mum?
I hadn't realized before how it is about Miyazaki's mom? But yeah, lots of moms there, though I never understood the half of it. Guess it's time to watch Boy and Heron again.

A classic that makes you carry the wound open til the very end of the movie.

Dumbo and Tarzan have some memorably protective moms. I suppose Brave and Turning Red feature this theme too, although I didn't particularly like those movies.Green Eggs and Ham isn't a movie, but IMO it's notable enough to mention. The first season has a Goofy Movie -like B-plot with a mother and daughter going on a roadtrip and learning to understand each other better. The main villain's core motivation originates from a well-meaning but unfortunate act of mother's love. The second season involves one mother reuniting with her adult son and another having a new baby.
The Secret of NIMH (1982) is about a mouse mother which goes to extreme and even supernatural lengths in order to save her house and children from perishing because of humans. She's like one of the best moms on animation for me.Yeah, another one from Don Bluth
>>153613085If we are moving onto series, consider Made in Abyss season 2. A horrific tale about, rather than being a mother, the wish of being a mother, and being that dream turned into a horrible fate. Still, there's a character who is a decent foster mother, until she can't help to ruin it in the worst way. And also the bond of mother and daughter is explored in a very peculiar way. I think Ive heard only a few times about "avenging your mother"
