Yesterday we learned the origins of the new new new Spider-Woman, and spent some time with Nova the Human RocketToday we're ditching all the ongoing plots for something completely different>previous threadshttps://pastebin.com/nY4qvfPS
>>153615549Eyes on the prize, Johnny.
So I know the schtick of the original Contest of Champions was to have then-every hero appear in one storyBut 25-30 years on, I don't think we're going to get the same treatment
Not a terrible showing from either of them I don't think
>>153615725I spy me a Xenomorph!
>>153616006Damn, we ain't gonna see THAT throw in Tokon.
Three fights and three oxygen deprivations
So there's more going on with Storm than I knew
>>153616075Johnny's getting a weird amount of respect here
>>153615881Johnny's just asking to be arrested at this point.
>>153616158>last panel>tony: dear diary... JACKPOT
>>153616128Claremont's run made it a point to show that Johnny isn't a retarded manchild. Shame that didn't stick around
>>153615400>Contest of Champions IIOh God this thing.
Oh hey it's... these guys
>>153615522>deadpoolOh, is this the first time we're seeing him on this ride?
>>153616341Ah, the Brood. Makes sense; the space-whales from >>153616099 were slave-ships of theirs or somesuch, as I recall.
>>153616456That's certainly an action figure.
>>153616452No, I think we've caught a glimpse or two of him before
>>153616237>have only one positive memory of this mini being a sexy Wanda scene>scene isn't anywhere close to as well-drawn as I rememberedThis is disappointing.
>>153615850To even have her in this even is a sign that they at least intended for her to be around for the long run.
>>153616006Well, we got Hulk vore today. Going to be hard to explain that one in tomorrow's OP.
>>153616359According to the wiki, they had ONE prior appearance in Fantastic Four before this, and then never appeared again.
>>153616557How the fuck did Domino beat Luke Cage, I know she has luck powers but even then they can only carry her so far against a straight up stat check. Same with Hawkeye vs Wasp but at least Clint has the possibility of a trick arrow that could cinche it
>>153616644I always thought this page was from AvX.
>>153616570Oh man some other BS ones, DD, I love him, has no chance against Firestar even on his best day. Gambit, love him too, has no chance against Quicksilver even on Pietro's worst day. BP is almost on par with Spiderman agility wise so he could possibly pull a Secret Wars Spidy vs the X-men against the New Warriors
>>153616942>BP vs Captain AmericaFairest fucking fight so far, legitimate 50/50
We're bone claws Wolverine today?
>>153617073He got his adamantium back literally a week after this series concluded.
That's not good
Warbird? That's a new one
Heh. I just realized I've been leaving these threads as open tabs, and I've fallen so far behind that one of them actually died 404'd and I couldn't open the images here. Should spend time catching up to here.
>>153617273She changed her name in Avengers since she wasn't Binary anymore. Result of back and fourth with Beast. She went back to Ms. Marvel because ... nostalgia or something.
>>153617256>>153617273I assume we'll never see Lockdown or Rosetta Stone ever again.
>>153617283If it helps, I think you can afford to skip tonight. I don't think it matters in the long run. Or even the short run.
>>153617321For sure, I don't think anything is happening beyond spectacle
>>153616006this is a fetish
>>153617411JUST END ALREADY!
And that was the Contest of Champions: RevengeNot a terrible time waster, spending time with characters I'm less familiar with isn't bad every once in a whileBut this is the last anyone saw of Lockdown and RosettaTomorrow we get back to a Spider-title
>>153617522Thanks for storytiming, Magister!
>>153617522>But this is the last anyone saw of Lockdown and RosettaWell, still better than Shoc, Night Watch, Styx and Stone got.
>>153617154Clint's feeling very narrate-y today
>>153617563They all have at least one more appearance after this point. Things get worse for all of them.>>153617632Claremont gonna Claremont.
>>153616586I’m calling shenanegains on black widow beating wonder man
>>153618382Sometimes no matter his power level, a jobber is still a jobber. Norman later beats him too.
>>153618527A high-ish power level is what makes a jobber
>>153618546It's odd how this has become the accepted use of the word in comics, when it's a wrestling term that originates with Literally Who? local talent hired for one night to lose to the stars and make them look good, and were often chosen for being like half the size of the stars.
>>153618683I always thought it meant the oppositeHaving a known quantity take something of a dive to show the new threat means businessDo not like it when people just say jobbing to mean losing
>>153618773Isn't that Worf?
>>153618773"Jobbing" is just "losing" but a "jobber" is someone who's only there in the first place to lose and put someone else over. The term just sort of loses all meaning with comic and cartoon villains who literally aren't allowed to get meaningful wins most of the time because the book or show would end if they did.
>>153617847>Things get worse for all of them.Exactly.
>>153618773The way I see it, it's losing as an intermediate narrative requirement. It's not a real fight on it's own merits, it's just somebody doing a job. In a lot of cases, as you said, it'll be somebody big going down because it quickly establishes the new guy as a threat. It's inherently a lesser thing than a clean loss or victory. If you view all losses as just jobbing, you're looking at fiction as nothing but a series of fulfilled requirements, which is deeply cynical and unsatisfying. At the end of a story, you want to be able to say that the hero beat the villain, not that the villain lost because the narrative required him to. Well, we've seen a good amount of both on this ride.
>>153616570>>153616586Oh, this is like the DC vs Marvel one in which readers voted so the most popular character got the win
>>153615873Think the writers are confused about Mattie's powers. She's not emulating Spider-Man, she's just a flying brick. In that aspects she's like Superman lite, which is very original Byrne.>>153616374Hi Slingers>>153616407Bye Slingers
Anyone here play the mobile game of the same name? It's surprisingly intricate.
>>153615570Nanomachines, son!
>>153615799>>153615814>Need an entire team to defeat Iron ManMutants, not even once.
>>153616334Now, Scarlet Witch is just a witch. Causality, Chaos? Gone.
>>153616677Chris Claremont's Deadpool is something.
>>153617522>Not a terrible time wasterSo you say
>>153622489Yeah. Shit.
>>153615678pussy spotted
>>153615854big fake bolt on tiddies
>>153615549
>>153627596What about it?
