I don't read this comic other than the occasional peek on these threads and the well-known meme, but what is it even about man? It just seems to have no direction, every time I see it it's just people standing talking about relationships and gender pronouns and shit.I gather most people seem to be some sort of scientists or do some science-related thing, since it has a bunch of robots and cyborgs and all, but what do the characters even do? Is this just a slice-of-life comic?

It started off being about an everyman dipshit bouncing between deadend jobs trying to get a chick with piercings to sit on his face, then it took a left turn at tumblr pronouns and got stuck there for a decade, but now the creator has just kind of accepted he likes drawing robot girls with big tits and figures out how to do that as often as possible. The comic is one of the most successful patreons so he's kind of priced in to keeping it rolling, but the spark has been only intermittently present for years.

It has since then morphed into what you described, but throughout it all the artist has consistently put out a comic 5 days a week. He's the Gen X equivalent of Jim Davis, and this comic is the tumblr millenial version of Garfield. Just the fact that it'll keep going consistently is enough for many people to keep reading.
