>>153621154>use an ad blocker>why would you need a comment section when you have us?>great for just immediately searching up a bunch of stuff and seeing what it's likeAnything I actually care about I find somewhere else, but there's something to be said for a place with a lot of shit that you can just open up to see what it's like without having to jump through the hoops of "okay this place has this but the old shit is somewhere else with a ton of dead links and torrents."Not like this is streaming shows here, all you need is the images. And if actual quality matter, again, you can then go find it somewhere better.

>>153621189Apparently the new tactic is rather than go after the pirates, you go after the underlying infrastructure. Gone are the days when you had a server in a basement, it's all in some data center somewhere - like how the panda's is in Moldovia. If you target the data centers themselves, you sidestep needing to track down the pirate and arrest them.

Hot TakePiracy is objectively good for preservationNot every act of piracy is a lost salePeople have varying valid reasons to pirate concerning distribution, accessibility, second hand market prices, etcBut anything (at least with comics and cartoons) that has benefitted from the word of mouth from piracy never needed said word of mouth to begin with to be profitable in the first place.

If there are any words of actual meaning for RCO, I can safely say within its decade of existence it gave birth to Twitter zoomers from across the globe who actually read comics and got into the likes of decades old material and have formed the modern discourse we see today outside of /co/.That or it was DC and Marvel's actual apps (cause none of those little shits read anything beyond those two aside from Invincible and fucking Scott Pilgrim) but I'm not sure about the range on those two.Look, there's a reason you have diehard fans of characters ranging from Superman to fucking Hank Pym who are from the Middle East or SEA of all places and RCO being so accessible was probably the reason

Genuine question - is there still decent places you can go to to torrent comic scans from before the digital days? I mean for example old stuff that hasn't ever been reprinted and had to be scanned by hand instead of ripped digitally. I used to download tons back in the days when you'd have blogs that exclusively dumped anything and everything through fileshare servers (Mega, Rapidshare, Mediafire etc.) and if I couldn't find em there I'd come here or Kickass Torrents.I just worry about a lot of the more obscure stuff that readcomicsonline was great for disappearing if nobody's backing this shit up
>>153621201Oh shut up. You think whatever website your using isn't on anyone's radar? There are entire divisions of companies whose job is to track down illegal uploads, they just don't act on them all the time.
Shit I was finally getting into comics this year and I had like 50 comics bookmarked there for convenience. At least I was smart enough to write my list down but it's a bummer. I'm kind of worried about the future of piracy especially with that insane internet ID the government wants to have to. Its so weird we have so many fucking spergs who would suck the cock of cooperations just because manga is out selling comics. Wait no it's not there are so many fucking faggots here. I bet most people getting on like that only come here to jerk off to hypnotized children in cartoons and dont even read comics. Oh well I guess all this shit is the inevitable fate of the modern internet.

Most books are slow burn drama, and you will sometimes see a person in a costume fighting a villain as a single page, or couple of panels aside that has no beginning or conclusion. It's just a quirky page that has them doing hero stuff while working through the "drama" Too damn many books are unreadable shit because for some reason the writers really REALLY really do not want to make a cape book...when they are writing a cape book. Thor has been slow burn drama for about 5 months now. FF has been a slow burn drama for little over two years. They brought back Drakhawk to turn it into a weird story about some teen struggling with cancer. Darkhawk did not even appear in issue #2 or 3. I'm not on board to pay $4-5 for 19 pages of some writer's wannabe screenplay/portfolio piece while they try to level up to film script writing.
Oh no, how will 15 year old Middle Easterners and Brazilians read comics and TikTok parasites "make" content now

>>153627879Yes yes we all know torrenting is the super elite hacker genius wizard technique that mere mortals cannot dream of uncovering or knowing about because only the elitest of the elites have ever heard the term. Others have only seen it mentioned on ornate markings in pyramids and temples of antiquity.Seriously you fangs might need to grasp the concept that it's not 1998 any longer and the general public knows what in the fuck a torrent is.
>>153627914I'm not even talking about torrents, but yes that is in fact beyond many people in the smartphone generation who don't even understand file folders.

The publishers spent decades fucking over these people whose work made them shitloads of money.Anyway, RCO isn't actually dead. >>153627581>I had a discussion at ECCC with someone in comics, I’m not going to mention who, about how busy the convention was, and they said that some of the attendees were probably just “Tumblr fans.”>I asked what she meant, and she said that she felt there was a growing group of fans who love the characters and love MOMENTS of stories, but don’t read the actual comics ever. She said that they will buy a CHARACTER X t-shirt in a heartbeat, but don’t own any graphic novels. They will reblog a scene they like from a comic, but never go to an actual comics shop to get that same book. From Gail SimoneSure there's a difference between fans who read through piracy and subhumans who just watch YouTube shorts but it's still the same thing at the end when it comes to comics

>>153628036Is it 2004 again? Torrentfags like the MySpleen fags have always wanted some kind of capacity to claim they are superior to someone somewhere somehow. They just want that, more than actually gaining the object of their obsession, they want to be able to gloat that they got it and you don't. That is waaaaaay more important that actually landing some race thing they were after.
>>153627914>the general public knows what in the fuck a torrent is.Honestly I don't think this is true. It feels like people have become more and more tech illiterate over the years.
>>153628111The only reason people largely stopped is due to places like RCO or Kisscartoon having shit available right there. The convenience was what made it all worth it. and besides, it's not like that shit is not going to go right back up on some Nigerian server in a week or two at best.
IT'S VERY SIMPLEIf you show me pic related, I don't know what the fuck I'm in for.I don't know what the interior pages are going to look like, I haven't got a clue. There is ZERO advertising here.I'm not going to buy it.This is like buying a music album without having a clue what it sounds like. I don't buy music without first hearing it for free on the radio or whatever. From a business point of view you MUST show your comic away for free, or nobody will buy it.RCO is the only notable advertising that comics have.
>>153628136Long boxShow me
>>153628111In some cases it's just plain illiterate. Multiple alternative sites that currently work just fine have already been mentioned in this thread.
>>153628110I recall a few years ago there was some thread about myspleen, and a few anons were talking about how too many members there are way too wrapped up in this mindset about being one of the special chosen few. Then later on in the thread some myspleen fags did appear and started up their we are the special chosen routine, making the first few anons 100% right. It was kind of insane to see it happen then and there.
>>153628136There's a very simple solution to the piracy issueJust make it official.Have Marvel, DC, whatever just buy or seize RCO (split it up to all their various companies) and then just leave everything the same. And so Marvel gives away all their comics for free. It's not piracy if the company does it themselves. And it would still be the best adveritsing method and they'd make more money than they would if they just shut down the site.
>>153628156They want to sell subscriptions to Marvel Unlimited and DC Universe Infinite so they're not going to do that.

>>153628490They really don't want to admit this because it deflates their fantasy and would get them fired, but it's the truth. There are only a few comics I'd be willing to spend money on and almost none of them are cape comics from the 21st century. After One More Day I would never trust a modern Marvel comic to not be horrible without checking it out first and after the I.C.E. and Trump tantrums the same now goes for DC. The sad part is I'd actually like to find something I like to try to vote with my wallet but it appears I'm going to have to learn French and/or Japanese to do that. They said they would rather burn the industry down than let a conservative voice in and that's what they're going to get.

Which does nothing for their issue to issue sales tracking. Also I'm in Australia, it's horrific swing the price stickers on my old floppies. 7.95 for a Superman/Batman #35, 9.95 for a Marvel Adventures two in one. But I cherish this bargain with the incredibly original Blackwing design
>>153628490>>153628538Seems especially true in the world of comics where it can be very fucking hard to get one's hands on a book at all. Comics are just not sold in many places at all. Most towns don't have a local comic shop any longer. They either went under in one of the many recessions, or they shifted over to pokemon cards and funkos. Even then most shops only get a certain number of books a month that they can afford to order. Sometimes they will not bother ordering small scale books at all since they never sell.

>>153628186I don't know how Anons do this. Every rural and suburban place I've lived is been over 100 miles to the nearest comic shop and they usually have a very limited and disorganized selection. When I lived in a major metropolitan area there were definitely a lot more shops and they were all much closer but they legally had nothing except issues that came out in the last month or two and when then not even all the titles. I've never walked into a comic shop and been able to just find anything I want. The closest has been ordering trade paperback on Barnes and Noble's website and then begging random Anons to do storytimes on here. Other than that it's all about torrenting or using stuff like RCO

>>153629729Hank Pym's entire fanbase is predicated on people from other countries having access to Avengers Academy, WCA and Mighty Avengers and becoming a fan of him and his mental struggles. There's also Frank Cho's online fanbase which is strictly predicated on piracy because he hasn't worked outside of the convention circle for years. People read Bendis' entire works and were able to notice his weaknesses as a writer far better. There's respect for what he did in the early 2000's, but people having access to Alias, Ultimate Spidey, Daredevil etc is what got people to actually know all his style. There's also minor fanbases like Captain America and New Gods' whose entire existence can be tracked to RCO and piracy sites, because Marvel nor DC have been arsed to compile their seminal runs as of late. Oh yeah, people also know how bad Mark Millar can get (Unfunnies) simply because of RCO. I remember that comic having hundreds of comments back before the purge of 2022. I also think that Crossed's entire fanbase can be traced to RCO, Badlands has remained on the "hot" tab for years already.

>>153629988>and his mental strugglesYou think these B-List (I'm being nice) and below characters attaining fanbases in foreign countries has to do with something incidentally intrinsic about them?IIRC someone mentioned Lobo sold better in Latin American markets because the blue collar macho man satire resonated betterI check locations for diehard Superman fans and they tend to be from the Middle East of all places (bonus points if they don't care for Absolute Superman for how it wrote the Al Ghuls)>People read Bendis' entire works and were able to notice his weaknesses as a writer far better.See, that's the weird thingBendis is in this position where /co/ admittedly still miffed over his work in the 2010's while all these young faces reading USM for the first time don't get the resentmentSure they'll be critical over his post-peter principal output at Marvel (and DC) but even if they don't like how he botched GotG or well, everything with Riri they're more lenient on his output because his 2000's work at Marvel is so prevalent is a go-to for new readers
>>153630052No.
>>153629975A lot of Gwenfag writers/editors over the years sold Gwen as Ms. Perfect when under Ditko she was a mean bitch and under Romita, a frequently-crying bitch.
>>153628802Does anyone order direct? Like is there a viable method to get issues delivered to you in a cost effective manner? For sure in Aus the situation is pretty dire. No comic shop in my town. There's at least one big comic store in the city, but it's 3 hours round trip on public transport on the one day a week I go in to the city. Real hard to justify going there if there's not something I specifically want and I'd call ahead to get it reserved
>>153630089as someone that got into comics post-Civil War I actually got to read Bendis at his "peak" of popularity, and while I don't resent him that much since he didn't ruin characters I cared about (X-Men, classic Avengers, DC characters), I can admit that his writing parsed a lot better for me when I was a teenager and I could chuckle at Doctor Doom calling Ms Marvel "cow". Now I read the same stuff and I cringe hard. So yeah, there's massive respect for what he did in the 2000s and younger people tend to give him a pass because of it. They will tell you "Oh yeah I fucking love Ultimate Spider-Man, but don't touch anything after Ultimatum" without resenting the guy. As for the b-list characters attaining fanbases because of different value systems and cultures? Absolutely. I remember Marvel Mexico attaching the Stracynzki/Gillen era Thor floppies to the Daredevil book because Daredevil has always been somewhat popular in this country because of his Catholic faith and how his life is a continuous soap era drama. He also had a run back then in the 70s where he was called Diabolico, and he sold very well, this was before the Frank Miller reinvention even.
>>153629988The fact that Crossed has a more noticeable fanbase online than the Mignolaverse, Grendel, Madman, Usagi Yojimbo, etc has left me, well not exactly saddened or disappointed just perplexed
>>153630168Mail fucking mangles all floppies that ship, and they always take longer to get there. Comics come out on Wednesday, comics come in the mail Saturday or next Monday. So no one wants to direct order shit.
>>153622562I subscribe to the DC App and still would just go to RCO. It was so much easier.
>>153630023>>153630161Thank you for clarifying. I'm still confused what the Teen Titans conflict is about.
>>153628762Windows Photos is fucking shit, half the time it skips ahead to the end for no fucking reason
>>153630752>I'm still confused what the Teen Titans conflict is about.Back then it was old people upset over how Teen Titans 2003 (the cartoon) deviated from the comics with young people on the show's side saying the comics were unappealing to themSomehow it's the other way around now
>>153628762cbr readers are older than you, retard.
>mfw storytime threads will become relevant again
The Gabe Newell quote aged like milk. Apparently more people pirated PlayStation IP games hitting PC than actually bought it on Steam
>>153628771If you wanna make this political, be glad you weren't on Boots Riley discourse.Anyway, piracy was always bound to happen and it always annoyed me this moralfagging. If I wanted to spend $4 for any stuff that itnerested me back in my best days, I would just buy comics nonstop. And with how comixology changed it layout and made some important changes, I knew RCO days were numbered.
>>153630357>Crossed has a more noticeable fanbase online than the Mignolaverse, Grendel, Madman, Usagi Yojimbo, etc>MignolaverseIt does? I always thought Hellboy and the whole universe was decently well known. Though I guess now that I think about it I've never really seen it talked about online. I just figured I never looked in the right places.
>>153630818People born after 9/11 actually care about 80s Teen Titans comics?Zoomers grew up with anime being a lot more accessible, whereas it was previously niche, so I would've thought the 2003 cartoon would appeal to them.
>>153630950Sorry for bringing up Xitter but I saw someone complain about Rex Splode's design in the show having gone through "demignolafication" (the goggles being changed)Almost NOBODY could piece together what that meant or could mean
>>153630818>>153630752I love 2003-2011 run, but it's mostly pure nostalgia and there's good reason why nobody talks about Kid Devil, Ravager (ok this one is a bit better) or Superboy even having a relationship with Cassie. Even YJ 2019 didn't have much of it. Also god it was so edgy sometimes, with or without Johns. Make sense people like cartoon more, even I personally don't have nostalgia for it.Speaking of it, god i heavily disliked backed when Young Justice cartoon deviated from source material and the show focusing mostly on Blue Beetle in S2 and older team and not Tim Drake at all was one of many reasons why "best Robin" has become so irrelevent.
>>153630969>Zoomers grew up with anime being a lot more accessible, whereas it was previously niche, so I would've thought the 2003 cartoon would appeal to them. It's not completely black and white and there are still young fans of the show who watched it long after it ended or was even aired but a sizable portion of the younger fanbase into cape comics via piracy are NTT fans so when the conversation is brought up between the comics vs the show, the former's side is surprisingly full of people barely in their 20's at mostIt goes back to why they don't see Slade as cool whereas in contrast he was raved a lot in the 2000's and 2010's
>>153622340You buy a comic to read it multiple times, it makes more sense to buy the book you know you like then gambling on it. Also network television was free and people still bought VHS tapes and DVDs of the shows they were fans of.
>>153621144Yeah, I noticed that a few minutes ago when I tried accessing the site to check out Sex Criminals. Apparently they are making a t.v. show on the comic.
>>153628049Only one who has plumbed the iron bound book of Skelos and deciphered its mysteries from the time when Atlantis was young could possibly even begin to fathom how to torrent! That is assuming their sanity remained intact...
>>153629729Just look at what's at the top od it. For long time TWD, later Invincible. Both Kirkman's books. the Boys was always a close second/third. Look at how much Invincible has gotten a lot of rightful criticism of how stupid the characters are that make Dinosaur look actually the most consistent, even if also beyond dumb.To say nothing of Ultimate Spider-Man, Batman Rebirth and onward past-King runs and Archie Sonic as well.
>>153629988Maybe I'm in the minority but I like his and Wasp's dynamic in Earth's Mightiest Heroes and that's how I became an Ant-Man/Giant Man fan. I really hated how they changed his character in the movie and wrote him out of Ultron's story completely.
>>153631122>For long time TWD, later Invincible. Both Kirkman's books. That's just from the adaptationsThe discourse would've arrived regardless It's not like Crossed where it's no longer being printed
>still no replacement for 32P
>>153630936We’ll just get far fewer of them.
