I wish this series was better. I liked the art, but the story was lacking half the time. I guess it's what happens when comics are based on comics. I have a similar problem with Invincible.
Yeah it was a letdown, not worth the wait in the end. Being better than 99% of stuff out there just isn't enough.
>>153626006>I guess it's what happens when comics are based on comics. I have a similar problem with Invincible.what even is the point of a parody if it's not a metacommentary of some kind? why wouldn't i just read the stuff it's based on?
>>153626051No, it really isn't enough. I can forgive the beginning for being a little rough, but a slapped together ending is not as forgivable.>>153626071For entertainment, but the problem is it just falls short and it shouldn't. It takes too much investment for that.
>>153626071I actually appreciate that Copra isn’t trying to be a meta deconstruction or parody or anything. There’s something refreshing about it basically being expies that he’s using to make a shared Marvel/DC universe without having to get the official seal of approval of working at either company Giving characters deaths that wouldn’t be killed off is the only real thing he does that goes beyond feeling like a regular comic he’s basing it off of. I’d like more stuff like this or Alan Moore’s Supreme that just feels like writers playing with aspects they like as they want to. There’s an earnestness about it.
>>153626006>I liked the art, but the story was lacking half the time. many such cases!
>>153626006Cope-ra
>>153627775Unfortunately.
I'd love more comics that looked like this.
>>153626006He should have used a co-writer to help out a bit. He can draw and write what he wants but just hire someone to iron out his rough edges.
>>153626006He likes Keith Giffen so he's cool
>>153626006I don't need a good story to enjoy a comic. but then I don't really like the art in this one
>>153629640>I don't need a good story to enjoy a comic.I do. That's probably why I don't like that many comics.>I don't really like the art in this oneWhat don't you like about it?
>>153629703Honestly I think my biggest issue is just the color.
>>153626006Has it ended yet?
>>153629727Huh? The coloring is rad
>>153630171I'm not sure...
>>153630171Yes. It ended last year, to no fanfare.I never saw it storytimed as it was coming out, nor really talked about.
>>153629640Same, I like comics mostly for the visual presentation. I like this book for that reason.
>>153631297So?
>>153631984It deserved better.
>>153631297I was more enjoyable than almost all action comics I read last year, but it wasn't that good. Still, I think it's unfair that trash gets passed around and read by more people than mediocre stuff like this.
>>153633308>I wasIt was
>>153626071It's not really a parody, reading it honestly borders on fan fiction, it's like Michael Fiffe REALLY wanted to write an Ostrander era suicide squad comic, in it's own universe mostly away from the rest of DC.
>>153631297I used to see it posted somewhat often years ago when it was first picking up steam but I haven't heard much for years now. Did it fall off in quality?
>>153634800I'd say it was fairly consistent all the way through but after you get passed the initial interest of "what if suicide squad was a drawn and quarterly book" there really wasn't much going on (yes I know D&Q didn't actually publish it, but it seems like their type of comic). You really don't care about any of the characters so there isn't much interest to keep reading.
>>153626006Are Copra fans called Copraphiliacs?
>>153626594What do you mean playing woth aspects? He isnt really playing with any aspects. He just writes a good mystery, action heist comic. Heist might not be the right word but is the only one i can think of that fits this ragtag group.
>>153634800>Did it fall off in quality?Yes. Ochizon Saga wasn't as good as what came before, and Death of Copra was even worse.
>>153632497Nah.
>>153637994Why not?
>>153636143>What do you mean playing woth aspects?Similarly it may not be the precise word, but I mean something like>>153634692, both it and Alan Moore's Supreme are very specifically referencing comics from an era the publishers aren't necessarily making anymore, while also doing things that you can't read from that era of comics. Someone asked, why not just read what comics they're based on, and for me the answer is simply that they have different stories than the comics they're inspired by.
>>153626594Supreme is meta.
>>153626006phenomenal artist
>>153640761Oh, ok. Now i get it.
>>153641888eh, he's alright i guess
>>153626006Mark Grayson?
>>153643994Rax
>>153626006I liked his Gi Joe issue.
>>153644288I've never read Copra. Is he the Superman expy? Is there a Spider-Man one?
>>153644374He's an expy of Shade the Changing Man.There isn't a Spider-Man expy within the major players that I can recall.
>>153644464>He's an expy of Shade the Changing ManNo way, I was right lol. That's the first character I thought about when I saw the OP but I doubted that anyone still remembered him.
>>153644532Copra seems to be a reinterpretation of comics from the late 80s and early 90s that Fiffe grew up with.
>>153626006nice cover
>>153626006meh cover
I read the first hardcover collection of it. Shit sucks.
>>153647654What didn't you like about it?
>>153644374What anon said >>153644464 in universe most of the actual superheroes are either dead or implied to have died offscreen or have been pressganged into Copra, all that's left are neutral metahumans, anti-hero types or straight supervillains. Their superman expy turned out to be a weird disgustinf brain worm thing
>>153644739Which kinda is normal. People like things they grew up on.
It's more of a proof-of-concept than anything else. When DC no longer makes good Suicide Squad comics, it's not because the world has forgotten how, it's because DC chooses not to.
