Would you consider JLGL a top-tier artist? What's your favorite comic by him?

I don't know what makes him better than any other bronze age artist. He's fine

He's pretty good. I like his Deadman comic, probably my favorite

This sort of clean, delineated "house style" is deceptively simple and hard to pull off with the consistency and frequency he managed.
I love the story from the Modern Masters book about Moebius visiting the DC office and being stricken that JLGL doesn't use any models because his work looked so precise

See above, I think he's an artist who's basically an artist's artist, not just in that he's great but that I think other artists appreciate his ability in a way an observer who doesn't make art would. It's hard to put into words but I think there's an effortlessness to his style that clicks, he doesn't go for the in your-face dynamism of a Neal Adams but it still looks really full of energy, he doesn't stylize or experiment with form as much but it still looks engaging.
I think there's also appreciation in his ability to create such a true neutral distillation of comic styles of his era.
Your mileage will vary if you want something else out of your artwork though, naturally.

They could resurrect Atari Force now. Pretty sure Warner got the part of Atari that had that copyright when they bought Midway.
>>
>>153633243
What for? It won't be good, unless you're desperate enough.

At least to reprint the original and its JLGL artwork and designs. It's a beautiful book.
>>
Never thought about it somehow but I would kill for some nice DC Universe by JLGL omnibuses. Maybe DC can get Fantagraphics to do a bunch of artist books like that new Marvel line to publish it

To answer OP it’s probably the Chaykin collaborations

Good point.
>>
I've always admired his work, although I think he's a better cover/poster artist than a graphic storyteller.

My favorite comic page ever is just an exposition dialogue drawn by him. The more you look at it, the more you realize what a clever composition it clever it is, while simultaneously pulling off character in complex perspectives. I don't remember which artist said it, but JLGL can make any panel feel like a splash page if he wants to.

she has my hairline in the last panel

Uh, sure.

Twilight is a fucking weird comic, I have no idea why it uses DC characters.
>>
>>153635897
To quote Moebius: "Son of a bitch!"
>>
>>153635749
Yikes
>>
>>153631191
He is the mandate and root for DC COMICS house style.
>>
>>153640769
I liked it but the ending seems to imply that they would do more Stories set in that universe but we never got anything.
>>
>>153635657

Picked up the whole series a few months ago for cheap, great comic, we need more pulp sci-fi comics that aren't connected to larger superhero universes.
>>
>>153644165
Been meaning to read that.

Impressive collection
