Thanks, man. I saw the links in the archived Wylde Pak thread but they were empty by the time I got to them. This should be interesting.

>>
>>153638989
i am really glad the final show got the artstyle more defined and settled and not being too similar to The Loud House, which would have recieved more criticism of the show being a TLH spinoff rather than its own thing.
Also, i'm also glad that current lily is more cuter than the original versions, which they were cute indeed but i believe they had to change these in order to get a perfect cute design, which the final one has.
>>153640082
yeah, pretty much we were robbed of those, wouldn't mind if she had more barefoot eps, close one was the island episode.

>Also, i'm also glad that current lily is more cuter than the original versions, which they were cute indeed but i believe they had to change these in order to get a perfect cute design, which the final one has.
The tooth gap they added to her final design really makes her that much cuter, major props to whoever it was on the team that suggested it.
>yeah, pretty much we were robbed of those, wouldn't mind if she had more barefoot eps, close one was the island episode.
She's still barefoot at the beginning of the finished pilot, it's just that they changed the scene of her eating the cheese puff so she's using the chopsticks with her hands instead. It's a shame the actual show didn't have any scenes save for the secret of lake island one.

Is the Pilot in the same universe as The Loud House?

Also speaking of Loud House, wasn't there this cartoon that also looked like The Loud House where a boy made friends with an alien and it was in a different language?

I did say this before, when I saw the these designs, the only thing I think they should kept was the longer hair for Jack, still have it be blond and stuff, but longer would have been nice.
>>
>>153642603
What do you mean it was set in the same universe though? Was it produced by Nickelodeon or was it just a foreign cartoon ripping off the artstyle?
>>
>>153643530
I unironically really like Jack's hair even though it's become a big zoomer meme, the sideshave thing or whatever. He looks sharp and clean and put together which is good to contrast with Lily, who is messier looking and quite frankly lives a less disciplined lifestyle, so it's cool it's reflected in their looks without going over the top about it. Honestly I watched the animatic and 'normal regular kid' Jack was a major drag. The show is so much better than the pilot it's really unbelievable. Their dynamic is way better in the show, I love when it starts and Jack is a little more tentative and 'tiptoeing' around each other and the house and then by the middle they're going at it like real siblings. It's great development.

Seeing all this extensive drafting and re-drafting that went into Wylde Pak's development makes me feel even WORSE about how quickly the final version was tossed aside (especially since said final version really did turn out to be the best possible iteration of this premise and these characters).

At least Watling and Marshall's vision made it through to the public, but man...

You can see a lot of the Loud House influence in that early pilot. I'm glad they were able to grow out of that the further along the series concept came along.

This also made me far more grateful for Jam Filled's involvement in the end. Digital eMation did fine work for the pilot, but you can see some shortcomings or moments of awkward timing you wouldn't get from a Canadian vendor studio as opposed to a likely cheaper Korean studio with an added time difference & language barrier.
>>
>>153638989
I wonder why did they changed them from step-siblings to half-siblings.
>>
>>153646482
I like that they are half-siblings a little more, it's rarer in cartoons or in shows in general to go that route. Makes it stand out a little more.
>>
Jack and Lily are the best couple since Dipper and Mabel.
>>
>>153643847
I'm not saying the top isn't good, and sure, i had zigzags shaved into my temples as a kid, but at least I left the back long! this is just messed up. and it's awkwardly drawn, the animators never know how far to continue the jagged line since it goes weirdly over his ear.

if I ever draw him, I'm using the pilot as an excuse to change his hairstyle.
>>
>>153645893
It was always a one-season show. it's okay. they just need to give these same guys a new show, immediately.
Maybe they did! maybe we just haven't heard of it yet. And maybe, just maybe, Jack and Lily will show up in the background of that new show.
>>
>>153646364
Yeah, I noticed some sluggish or unnatural timing too. On one hand, I could chalk it up as "it's a pilot, they're working things out". But at the same time, eMation has been guilty of this in other productions like Costume Quest.
>>
>>153646482
it seems like even the earliest stuff had them as half-siblings. And I liked Pilot!Lily's very realistic possessiveness of her dad, which obviously Nick would not have gone for.
It's weird because yeah, we all assumed they must have been stepsiblings at some point. It even explains Lily not having her dad's last name. But it would seem we're wrong.
>>
>>153647126
Dumb idea I thought of: a spinoff centered around Chuck and Dirk aimed at an older audience kind of like Regular Show.
>>
>>153647310
I mean I wouldn't say no to that.
at some point, can we just agree, John DiMaggio needs to play Chuck's dad or brother or something.

I found that to be a really sweet detail. Means she was probably the cast member most attached to this show. Castillo did great work as Lily, so I can only hope this gets her more VO opportunities.

>>153647126
I appreciate that they mapped out this one season to tell a complete story, but I absolutely hate knowing that they would've been down to expand on the premise had they been greenlit for another round of episodes: https://gofile.io/d/N2cOiA

>>153648489
I had no idea she was also Pibby.
Now PIBBY is a show where I have no idea how anyone, least of all the creator, thought it had legs. We were given the entire show in a few minutes, we saw a snip of every act of the whole thing beginning to end. so unless you have something new to do beyond extending that, like some profound statement on what the black static stuff represents (wokeness? chinese sabotage?), there's no point
>>
Lily's so cuuuute
>>
>>153643792
Foreign cartoon ripping off the art style.
>>
>>153648711
What we saw were the lines, but they wanted to read what's between them; The character relationships, the growth that Pibby's newfound crew gain as individuals, the Roger Rabbit-level crossovers, that sort of thing. I think it's the vast popularity Pibby got, combined with the let-down of Adult Swim passing on the project (even after the April Fools 2022 event) that gradually helped steer industry icons like Dana Terrace, Maxwell Atoms and Matt Braly away from the major networks, and over towards the realm of indie animation (The butterfly effect, if you will); Shows getting cancelled, pilots being shelved and the many tax write-offs were basically the tipping point.
There is however one fan project that's aiming to start a full Pibby show this October, based on those original concepts, and I personally do think it looks promising https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohA-bzQOjpg
>>
>>153650282
Almost forgot to mention, but in the pilot animatic the darkness is shown to be a corruption of internet slang and meme... culture, I guess? Like Bunbun saying the clouds are "lit senpai"
Star Studios' take looks to eradicate that angle and making it probably a little more in align with Dharkon from SSBU, purely keeping the darkness as an endless blob of corruption, zombifying and destroying everything in its path, possibly going after discontinued shows that have already run their course... I'm sure they're gonna add more to it though

I checked out of TLH after the Savino hoax, and I'm not a flip/jeet so I never watched Amphibia, but Molly McGee spoiled us and its abrupt cancellation has made me approach any subsequent cartoons with caution. This is a dying medium, and from what I saw of Wylde Pak it was a quality cartoon, so its worrisome that even quality doesn't sell anymore, just todderslop noise.

Honestly, it makes me really sad not knowing what the future holds for the series. It's too uncertain. Even if the creators allow them to continue, they'd accept right away. The only official answer is whether Wylde Pak died or if he's going to continue. But oh well, that's the downside of being a new IP these days, where nostalgia for past TV glories like Regular Show and Adventure Time gives more importance to new television projects.

The Smiling Friends guys are irony poisoned millenial fuckups, as plainly undisciplined as it is possible to be, and adult cartoons are nothing but a playground for lazy stoners anyway; nothing is expected there of merit or professionalism. The Wylde Pak guys are stone cold legitimate cartoonists. It's a ridiculous comparison to make, if WP doesn't get another season it's because it was robbed by the merger and you know it, and anyway, even among the stoner crowd the Smiling Friends guys are a total disgrace for doing that. The adult cartoon space is seriously nothing but bongsmoke, I really have no time for it.

By the way, if the 'ideas are as good as ever' guy from the last Wylde Pak thread is here, I'd be happy to continue that argument.

1. please stop saying that word, that's not what it meant when it was coined and 70% of what it describes is gen Z
2. we're not undisciplined, we just had shit too easy. We have no work ethic because it turns out hard work fucking destroys you, whereas being good, doing as you're told, and getting good grades is fucking brain dead easy.
They at least do care about animation, and put a lot of work into... individual scenes. More than is required, really, but that's even MORE a sign of our lack of work ethic. we don't know how to pace ourselves either. There's a reason we're all burnouts.

It really hit me when Pen Ward burned out and demoted himself from showrunner to 'just one of the writers.'
He had the best show in the world, it was his own fantasy he controlled, but he couldn't get the videogames made that he wanted, and he couldn't handle the nonstop pressure and work of showrunning. He just wanted to write and draw cartoons, and I get that.
But it's the reason we can't have nice things. The people who ARE suited to 'running stuff'? they're the worst fucking people. My guys, or at least what passes for my guys, we're not in charge for a reason. we never had 'our day' either. Got skipped right over.

Of what, the show?

it's a cute as fuck show about a boy who was basically living the Wild Thornberries life with his mom, until she realized he's seen the world but never hung out with other kids, so she sends him to live with his dad for the summer

his dad has remarried (apparently within like 18 months of his son's birth which, okay...) and has a cute hapa daughter, who was enjoying having the house to herself. She's as spoiled as any only-child girl can expect to be.

The parents run a pet grooming service so there's constantly animals roaming around causing trouble.
also the adorable old korean grandma lives with them
The rest is just cute slice of life, the boy learning about life where you actually stay in one place, make friends, etc.
It's got massive, massive wincest potential because the girl is kind of a brat but clearly needs to be kept in line by her big brother and she grows to just adore and respect him

>he couldn't handle the nonstop pressure and work of showrunning
It's not uncommon for a marriage to disintegrate while running a show. It's extremely high stress so the person in question is always strung out and running on empty, they never see their family, and at a certain point (after years of 80+ hour work weeks), partners often just call it quits.
When asked about why he was stepping down, I remember Pen saying something along the lines of "there are more important things in life..." I always took that to mean he was either prioritizing his health or his family or maybe even his mental fortitude.
I think it's crazy how quick the production schedule needs to be these days. The digital pipeline was supposed to make things faster and more efficient, but instead of making things easier, it just meant that networks now expect people to crank things out on a condensed timeline and be able to make edits to nearly anything up until it airs.

Still, you can tell he both wants to talk about AT and doesn't wanna talk about AT. On his twitch streams, or his guest appearance on Cartoon Mess Live's "Gabbin' with Grandma"... Like this is literally a silly cartoon he made where he named the kid after himself (at first) and was gonna name the princess after his mom. >>153662193
that adds like, a few months max to the problem.
Imagine how Minju would feel "Yay I got a husband! Wait, his ex is pregnant, and we're only NOW finding that out?"
Even so, they would have found out pretty fucking soon, so there's no way he'd already be MARRIED to Min. it's pretty interesting no matter what.
>>
>>153660887
>>153661942
>>153662193
>Maybe he and Alice broke up before they found out she was pregnant
Seems like the most likely. If he was cheating on Alice, I can't imagine they'd still be on good terms. And maybe he got Min pregnant before marrying so that's why Lily has the last name Pak but Min hyphenated.

I guess the takeaway here is that Will FUCKS.
>>
>>153662272
yeah that would make sense if Lily was, at some point, temporarily only Min's. but one assumes they married early enough that they'd have no qualms about changing her name to wylde-pak as a baby..

Will absolutely fucks. he is a goddamn canadian. The kind of hardy, robust people that moved out of europe because it was faggy and queer, and went to north america to chop down trees, hunt beavers, and build anew. Europe's gene pool actively got shittier as these people bled off, and then, after Canada was formed, they purged their shittiest by ejecting the Accadians.
>>
>>153662270
Maybe Alice kept it a secret for awhile because she didn't know how to break the news to Will since they had already broken up.

In reality, the creators may not have actually worked out the baby timeline and just made Jack and Lily close in age so it would be easier for them to pal around.
>>
>>153662303
yeah I don't think they thought about it
same for Phineas and Ferb. I mean, clearly Candace and Phineas's dad was just NOT part of their lives, ever. Yet he had two kids with a woman eight years apart. But they don't have his last name or anything, they never talk about him. And somehow, these two recently divorced/widowed people with INFANTS (and one eight year old) met up at a concert, fell in love, and blended their families.. despite one being from fucking England.. and then he raised his kid in America from infancy, yet that kid has a British accent.
>>
>>153662302
>but one assumes they married early enough
not necessarily the case. They could have just lived together for years until finally tying the knot. I know a lot of people like that who were together, had a kid, but only finally got married when the kid was like 6. At which point, Lily may have had an opinion about whether she wanted to change her name or not.
>>
>>153662351
Huh. I guess it is the 2020s and people are pretty fucked up.
But you're gonna tell me people running a struggling small family business and supporting a kid AND a grandma.. didn't take advantage of marriage tax credits that long?
>>
>>153662345
>yeah I don't think they thought about it
also, ideas tend to have to change A LOT. I know the differences from the pilot to the season are known already, but even from concept to pilot, creators tend to have to jump through a lot of hoops and edit requests just to get a chance to shoot their shot. The story may have started off completely worked out regarding ages and couplings, but after the 50 millionth round of "tweak" requests from suits who wanted to sniff their own farts, they may have changed some details that suddenly made their imagined back story no longer work. I could imagine you'd stop trying to rework everyone's origin story after a certain number of edits and get to the point where you're ready to agree to whatever just to get to the next phase already.
>>
>>153662368
>didn't take advantage of marriage tax credits that long?
Maybe fresh off of his last serious relationship, Will needed some time to make sure he was tying the knot for the right reasons.
>>
>>153662426
well that's just it. thus far, we've all assumed they used to be stepsiblings, or that a bunch of stuff was different in the pilot
and now we've seen the pilot AND the pilot's pre-animatic. and heard interviews saying the basic relationship tree was always the same, so... apparently no, those details were set from the start.
>>153662436
Perhapsw, but... how long would that take? especially with Halmoni pestering him nonstop to make her daughter an honest woman.
>>
>>153662476
>how long would that take?
It takes as long as it takes. And Will DID make an honest woman out of her and they have a very nice family. So, I guess he did something right.
>>
>>153662539
yeah maybe I'm too hung up on the details. Their family is cute and perfect now.
I'm really surprised given the ending that nobody is ever talking about Will-Min-Alice threesomes.

There's so little r34 of Alice *in general* that it's genuinely bewildering. There have been lewds drawn of her like a dozen or so times, and *that's it*. I think she's one of the most physically attractive/aesthetically pleasing cartoon MILFs I've ever seen, so this is just insane to me.

Oh totally, I was throwing shade at the SF creators for bailing so suddenly. It was not only an unprofessional way to handle [self-inflicted] burnout, but it also robbed TONS of people of future work that had more or less been already promised with the 2-season renewal.

Just feels like an extra slap in the face considering the many new originals I've fallen in love with so far this decade that were all cut short. The final kicker is how the SF creators are somehow praised for this decision as if it's some noble feat to end their show "before it got bad" when the aforementioned 2-season pickup proves a 3-season run was never even their original plan.

All this to say, I hate that Watling, Marshall, and the whole WP crew produced such a cool new thing only for it to have a delayed release and be jumbled around with that damn merger. I'll eventually come to terms with the show being pretty much cancelled already; I just don't want all their great work to be lost in the sea of reboots/sequels. Don't let it be forgotten so easily.

Are you forgetting that WB is also going through a merger right now with Netflix and Paramount? The Smiling Friends crew was already outsourcing their animation to Korea bc they were forced to cut corners for the 3rd season instead of internet animator collabs like S1 and S2. They ended it probably to avoid being midway through production and getting the plug pulled like this show got.

Contrary to what you might think, modern adults can actually learn from the mistakes of veteran animators who didn't recognize the door hitting them on the way out until it was too late

I appreciate the mention that Nick actually advertised this show. They did their part, but something just failed to click with audiences somehow. What cartoons were pulling people's attentions around the time Wylde Pak first debuted and later as the rest of the season was rolling out? Invincible S3 and S4 didn't overlap with Wylde Pak, and Fionna & Cake S2 was the tail end of the year. What was the hot topic during last summer?

So she would have been talking in that like 'Mark Wahlberg/JFK' accent? No thank you.

Honestly, infidelity. This show was literally made with the basis of a cheating dad that knocked up an immigrants daughter and raised a brat. If that's something you "relate" to that's not romantic. Latams love harems but, only with self inserts. Plus it has the piss yellow filter they hate. And the animation is super spastic. Which isn't like le based anime. It just missed the mark on so many things Latams like.
Even something like Owl House gets a pass bc they like Luz for being dumb even if the show is bad it had hot girls. This show didn't seem to give a crap about waifu bait

LatLambs haven't done anything useful for cartoon fandoms since the death of TGAMM. Gara draws very sporadically and has been banned from like every known platform. Parasomnico just does random shit. Grim posts new content like twice a year. Some others I know occasionally post their shit here, but again, it's not "millions of brown people making content". It's more like a handful of brown people making content, while inviting in many magnitudes their number to shit up discussion with coombrained posting, dragonball z power scaling autism and other things that gradually drive off the rest of the fandom.
>>
It is pretty amusing to picture poor people living in the South American jungle, with dirt floors and chickens running around inside their house, on a tablet drawing lewds of TLH and TGAMM.
