Honestly probably this whole Paul thing in Spider-Man. When One More Day happened, I was in a phase of not totally keeping up with comics, and I assumed it'd be some dumb storyline that would be retconned pretty quickly. It wasn't until the Slott/Spencer years that I was back to reading ASM Wednesday mornings on storytimes here before work. Right around the time the Paul shit happened, I had a really bad injury and my fucked health put me in a spot where I really needed some positivity from my favorite comic character, and instead that's right when they introduced Paul and 4 straight years of misery for Spider-Man. I'm still mad.

I was reading Krakoa New Mutants. It was generally fine, most of their OCs were eh, especially the kid characters. I just wanted to see some of my old favourites. Near the end of the run they added this trans mutant character called Escapade who had been introduced in Marvel Voices or something. Their power was body swapping with people but it was super ill defined in regards to limitations. Sometimes it was like they swapped places fully and sometimes not. They had this whole arc with one of their friends getting kidnapped. Then their friend having PTSD or something. I forget, I've memory holed it. The dialogue was cringe, the character was bad, the arc was bad. Often on /co/ I see people say shit like, only a few comics are woke, people keep talking about America Chavez or that cancelled New Warriors book. But stuff like this is far worse. It's just lame and cringe and everything else. And I'm not even a culture warrior type.

Jason Aaron is bar none the worst fucking Punisher writer. He takes the subtext from Ennis’ run: that this crusade was never really about his family and that Frank just really enjoys killing people, and repeatedly beats you over the head with it. Aaron even ups it by going “Actually Frank hated his family and asked for a divorce the day they got killed” which is basically just putting a hat on top of a hat in terms of drama. It’s already tragic they were murdered in front of him, you don’t need to up the ante.

>>153658407That's the thing about these sort of scenarios, assuming it was the intention from that start I can get from a writing stand point wanting to keep your reader as off kilter as those in the situation for engagement reasons, but the reasonable thing to do if you don't want to make an overt Matrix Pod reveal is to at least have some sort of hint within the first issue, that way anyone who starts the arc blind can see in hindsight that the premise was clearly there to begin with.
