>More classic regular show but with slightly off art
I mean, I love it. I like that one eileen and margaret episode
>>
>>153641787
Honest opinion
>Animation can look weird while other times it looks the same as usual. Depends on how much you notice that kind of stuff and if it bothers you
>Pacing is wonky in a few of the current eps. Feels like they are getting back into the swing of things while the latter eps feel better
>Generally speaking, it feels like old Regular Show for the most part
>Eps take place all over the timeline with Nap Spot taking place around when Mordecai and Rigby first got hired

Overall I am liking it well enough. Curious where the overall arc with Pops and the tapes goes and if it is setting up anything further since its kind of a continuation
>>
>>153641787
It's more of the same shit sans "The Lore" as you got a decade ago. How much did you enjoy that?
>>
I haven't seen it beyond clips but I don't understand why the animation looks so bad at times. I thought they must have changed the animation studio, but seemingly it's still Saerom.

The animation in the Gumball revival looked fine. Honestly it looked like an improvement over the original show's most of the time. Did CN have no faith in Regular Show and cut its budget? Was Gumball able to keep its animation due to being partly financed by Disney?
>>
>>153641850
Boba and the Eileen/Margaret ep were the best ones so far for me. I think the Luau one was the weakest
>>
>>153641941
They changed to digital and have some different people I think. Its weird though as at other times the animation looks like it used to like when Pops is messing with the tape

The writing is off. Aside from pic related and Eileen saying "Lock in, Margaret", the story structure also feels wrong. I sort of get Muscle Man building a hovercraft because they had the blueprints, but they didn't even explain the dumbass suits that were used to mistake them for aliens. Usually there'd at least be a scene where one of them asks "why do we have to wear this?" and MM would say something like "safety suits dude" or whatever. It's just random for the sake of random, like no "method to the madness" feeling the OG had. Feels more like how Pickle and Peanut handles humor.
>>
The off art makes it pretty hard to enjoy completely, and like >>153642144
said the story structure and character writing can feel a bit off. I still enjoyed it quite a bit though

>>
>>153642948
god the animation and just specific poses feel so off. This ep in particular had such a weird structure. Like in the older seasons, the plot would usually have the main conflict at the end be Mordecai and Rigby compete against the blade tards to save the park, or something that ties closer to the 80's motivational lady. Instead they just come in and wreck shit, Benson "cries" to get rid of them and to get M+R to do their work, and that's it. Still feels like a rough draft.
>>
It is good albeit a little different
You can clearly hear the aging in their voices though.
I would have preferred if they adapted the comics

They certainly don't feel unique or interesting enough to deserve the dramatic "hidden away stories" plot thread.

What? You can totally do crazy episodic stuff with the characters that don't change their status quo. They already teased one-off episodes exploring characters' pasts and stuff.

You can still do normal episodic stories but make them feel more like you're seeing secret adventures that were locked away.
>>
>>153646320
The Lost Tapes monikor and plot thread of them being stashed away, makes me think of semi-inappropriate (still within their current limits) secret unseen episodes like "Mordecai tries to find an art job, but ends up getting stuck painting PG nude portraits of people", not "Benson watches a generic how to video on getting Mordecai and Rigby to do their jobs that fails until he cries awkwardly." Like who cares and why would tapes like these be hidden away, aside from people's jokes about how the episodes suck.
>>
Wait, the management episode was new? I actually thought it was an old episode I missed. Come to think of it it did seem slightly off somehow.
>>
>>153641787
The show's pacing feels as rushed as it did in the later seasons. Also, the vector-rigged animation, while attempting to mimic the traditional 1st season off-model style, ends up being off-putting. I liked the boba ep tho
>>
>>153646376
The angel told Pops they only get one tape when they get to heaven so I am also curious how much they're actually going to explain about these random extra tapes he wasn't given. The last time I was interested in an RS arc it was the Spark Initiative stuff that literally went nowhere. They were putting all these conspiracy threads into the episodes and about how they were evil, but ultimately once they went to space they didn't get to explore that before jumping into Pops' arc speedrun after cancellation.

I don't really have expectations on the depth or mystery in an RS arc since then. The show obviously isn't something like Gravity Falls where it's ingrained into the creator's desire, but I still feel like the RS crew is trying to be ambitious enough it could go somewhere. They have a lot of potential with something this fresh. But I feel like we're already sort of seeing how it'll all be kind of "obvious" mysteries like with Jampft, he was clearly an antagonist and part of a building format war just from his debut. It reminds me of how in S7 they blatantly showed blueprints of the park launching into space but still acted like that was a big surprise for some reason. I hope they try to be more subtle with a big event coming this time.

G-ball already had a rigged/hand-drawn hybrid animation pipeline perfected in its original run--all done directly on digital software as opposed to scanning paper drawings--so I'd like to think that made it easier to get back in the swing of things for its revival (as well as raising the quality here and there). It's also produced in Europe with a more close-knit overall crew compared to Regular Show's pre-production team shipping to a country on the other side of the world and simply having to make do with the usually imperfect end result they receive months later.

Just an advantage all these revivals of once-hand-drawn cartoons struggle to recreate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GleTI7jDWOs

man we're already about to go through the awful song and dance of koth s14 for its next season again. terrible clips, foreboding titles and descriptions, and a disappointing drop of shit episodes.
>>
I just remembered we're going to have to deal with a fucking party horse episode in this modern quality. Not just bad animation and vectors, but the writing too. How much do you want to bet someone say something about him partying so much to accomodate for fragile masculinity?
>>
>>153646632
>How much do you want to bet someone say something about him partying so much to accomodate for fragile masculinity?
let's not be rash. imho the show is there in spirit but some parts of the dialogue do not align with the characters they're being said from. you can immediately tell that this is a different batch of writers just by how muscle man talks in episode 3.

im watching these as they air on tv. sad to know i still haven't heard of all the shit dialogue from the earlier examples yet. also it's not an issue on its own, but for regular show i'd hope they don't make a habit out of these silly ass character transitions. it feels too childish.

>they used a render with all the trash bags loaded to transition to a scene where they first load the trash bags onto the craft

I really hope part of what they were saying about being able to get away with more again means we get a great Halloween special out of this. They even noted in S8 how the halloween ones "became weak." Give us some crazy deaths of the MCs again.

I still doubt we'll see anything again like Mitch being dragged off into the woods as we hear gunshots, and then he shows up with his skin ripped off and dies in front of everyone.

this was tame enough that it could go either way, like making a jab at current bullshit or mocking that it was ever ok. benson's grimmace at her talking about it could also be interpreted either as "ew that is so wrong that they used to be ok with that" or that she was trying to sell another tape

still kinda sucks to hear about this sort of thing in regular show

>Sam Marin says he only got one hour of sleep before recording the first episode of ‘Regular Show: The Lost Tapes.’ The voice actor behind Pops, Benson, Muscle Man and more says he was too anxious to sleep.
damn. one hour of sleep and he can still deliver on multiple unique character voices throughout the entire 30 minute special and yet a professional animation company shits this garbage out

I saw this shit on TV recently and thought it was awful. Turns out it was made by one of the new writers on Lost Tapes. Between that and Monica "Slay" Ray I can see why this shit fell apart.

People are not capable of making Regular Show or anything like it post-2016. Stop bringing good shit back just to ruin it with new people who shouldn't be anywhere near it. The only reason people are seeing this revival as serviceable is because they were able to retain a lot of original talent. But even that only gets you so far ten years later.

>>
it's shit, don't bother watching it. Stick to the first 3 seasons.
>>
>>153641787
It's pretty decent.
>>
we're getting 40 episodes so i'm just trying to stay optimistic that the visuals and writing will get better. i'm not expecting any homeruns, but the boba one from what i've seen seems like what i'd expect. a season 6/7 type episode but slightly off/modern. i'm hoping fix that tape is a sign they're trying to save the animation for more noteworthy episodes. blade games was kinda shit as an episode in and of itself, very bland and tiresome wacky modern cartoon writing, so i'm not as annoyed it was animated like shit if it means they're going to have better combs of animation/writing quality later.

it's just the last bit of optimism i can ever have for something.

There's a lot more randumb style humor this round
>Rigby randomly suggesting they use his shiny blue bike(?) just so Benson can say no wheels!
>They put on those stupid suits with no explanation as to why
>random giant binoculars with Skips, random giant hedge trimmers Rigby can sit under
and that was just in the first 2 episodes. i feel like they're writing more in line with adventure time or something. and i say that as someone who liked early adventure time and its nonsensical approach, it just feels tonally confused when put on RS

The pacing is so weird. Why did they cut off this celebrity guy during this scene as he starts talking? It feels so unnatural and fucked up.
>>
>>153650636
This episode was so childish. Mordecai and Rigby being interested in people going nuts with knives and blades is good. Them fucking around and wanting to do it too is good. The writing takes a dive though when they see the blade games poster on the garage door and think it's some officially sanctioned thing and start acting like children getting tricked by it by a parent, even when Benson tells the real guys it's fake they (especially Mordecai) look distraught like they thought they were in some real official competition as opposed to at least just something for fun. What the hell even was this.

I don't know, that one was so weak. I really hope most of the episodes don't feel like imitation RS, that made the characters feel lifeless and sterile.

This. I thought episode 1 was pretty good. The pops part was actually kino and the luau part was pretty accurate and fun. Then episode 2 started and everything took a nosedive straight to the floor. Animation, pacing, everything. I kept episodes 3-5 for another day because I was so put off by it. It was disgustingly bad. Mordecai and Rigby feel like children and nobody was acting right. Benson acting like a bitch. And like...

>>153650765
What the fuck even is this? How did this make it on air? This is like crappy 80s cartoon level of animation error retardation. There was a part with Mordecai that looked so cartoony and off when he sliced the bamboo too. Normally I'm not very picky but this was pretty egregious.

if they're bringing back a bunch of old concepts i wonder if we'll see benson's nuclear reaction with flaming gumballs in his head again somewhere. a shame they didn't use that type of rage for the series finale. they totally could've built up is anger about getting launched into space, being displaced as any form of leader because of the spark shit and rawls, and getting tired of the bullshit. ultimately most of the cast weren't really characters in the finale, they just stood around and fought a second enemy.

gravity falls had that problem too where dipper and mabel didn't really do much in the finale.
