Osmosis Jones could've been so good. Too bad it was written by Marc Hyman (just for context, his last writing credit is War of the Worlds starring Ice Cube)
The main issue with 2D was that the talent pool was tiny, there were only a few dozen people who could even do it and all of the studios had to have bidding wars over animators. Jump to 3D and it's the complete opposite, you have stuff like Puss in Boots and Camp Koral and The Boss Baby and the Rugrats reboot being animated by Technicolor Group india and people still enjoyed all of those.
