The recent Marvel Rivals revealed that their version of Cyclops has eyes that open to a dimension of pure kinetic force but apparently people are really pissed off about it. Why is the Punch Dimension so controversial now? I remember people thinking it was a fun and silly idea but now people are mad that the Rivals writers made it canon to their game. What changed?

Yeah um...sweetie if you want your alt universe Miles to exist then you gotta get real and face the fact punch dimension is more kino than him and that this is only Rivals so you gotta face the truth that if we have to accept Miles in an alt universe then you have to accept Punch dimension (even tho Miles is in main 616 now and the fact that nobody gives a shit). Wow imagine that...people enjoy the punch sci-fi concept more than the rip-off. Also can Miles access it for the knockout game of harmless people on the subway or against Spot?

Has cyclops eye beams ever been shown to be anything OTHER than concussive force? Have they ever lit things ablaze or some shit?
If theyve always been impact based then why do people care about the explanation, would they rather there be no explanation behind Cyclops eyes and its just because of a mutant gene

Also how come did they not shove him into NWH? Why is he not in Rivals? Perhaps the Chinese have a well-known aversion to the race with high melanin? And what race is one of the most populous on Earth?
I'm not a proponent of the Sinitic over others. I'm just using reasoning to show that one of the most numerous races prefers the white character over the black one which makes it more likely that in fact, Peter is more popular in the world than Miles.

Punch Dimension is just one of those stupid comic book things that you either love or hate

Its clearly an attempt by some nerd to make up some pseudoscientific reason why Cyclops doesn't ever run out of eye blasts
Because if Optic Blasts actually ran on solar power, then he should be severely weakened indoors or at night and be able to take off his visor sometimes before he can recharge
So instead his eyes are portals that are directly connected to another dimension full of red kinetic force, so he will never run out

X-Men editors have pretty much forbidden writers from actually referencing it
It's the kind of bullshit you only really find in handbooks and wikis

>small cock sissygot can only think about ripping off other people stuff and giving it another fresh coat of paint and calling it new
>>
>>153648332
I think some anons will post when he has burned through stuff or broken through chains. But other times like in that schism cover, he is shown blasting off Wolverine's skin but it is not burning, more like getting moved off him. Covers have dubious canonicity but I think it just shows it is inconsistent. But based off vibes, concussive force would make more sense for how it is depicted throughout X-Men's history.
>>
>>153648411
You are gay
>>
>>153648404
it's no more dumb than wolverine becoming some immortal being that can regenerate from essentially nothing
>>
>>153648404
it's also a stupid idea to come up with an excuse why any optic blasts would have concussive force instead of an actual laser which would just burn the fuck out of whatever it touches, not blow through walls
>>
>>153648404
They did it both ways. The portal in his eyes and his access to the punch dimension is solar-powered, it runs out if morlocks kidnap him for too long.
>>
>>153648095
Punch dimension vision is also heat vision

>>
>>153648332
>>153648430
its a plot point that getting burned by cyclopses beams was a tip off they werent the X-men but actually skrulls
its been a consistent depiction of his beams, in text if not visuals, that his optic blasts produce far less heat than kinetic force since the 70s
and arguably enforced by jim shooter who insisted that new readers dont get confused by anyones powers, so he insists his beams do not burn fairly often (and can only be stopped by a ruby quartz visor)
>>
>>153648682
Wait, how the fuck does that work? They can one for one copy a dude down to presumably the genetic level but they don't get his powers? You're telling me they can't duplicate the Punch Dimension based on his X-Gene or whatever, but they can do his blood no problem?
>>
>>153648483
You come up with a better fucking explanation then, dipshit, its not easy i tried my best
>>
>>153648823
the skrulls cant duplicate powers, which is why super skrull exists
but the skrulls were using a regular laser beam instead of the punch dimension, which resulted in a hot beam burning the thing and tipping him off that its not actually the real cyclops
>>
>>153648823
do they have the coordinates to the punch dimension innatelly? maybe they can get the tartar sauce dimension or the slightly hotter fire punch dimension
>>
>>153648095
Because it's fucking stupid. It was only liked as a joke, a meme. It doesn't really matter that much though.
>>
The dimension exists whether they want to say Cyclops doesn't access it or not

Ewing is one of the few writers who likes Punch Dimension

He wanted to include another reference to it during his X-Men Red run, the Sins of Sinister crossover. But the editors said he wasn't allowed to

>Al Ewing also came up with another in the bar, a chimaera who combined the power sets of Magik and Cyclops, and can open stepping discs to the punch dimension that powers Cyclops optic blasts. "The problem is we're not allowed to mention Cyclops power has dimensional holes to the punch dimension." It was an addition to the Official Handbook Of The Marvel Universe that the editors don't like to reference – which also explains how the Hulk puts on mass, having access to a "meat dimension".

With how rabid Magik fans have become thanks to Rivals, I don't think they'll ever confirm that she fucks. They sent the writer and his family death threats because of an AU where she was Belasco's sex slave.
>>
>>153648404
I don't necessarily love it, but I don't get the hate.
Nightcrawler and Magik's powers also weren't conventional but tapped into "power explaining" dimensions too, so what?
It's not like a universe of raw kinetic energy is unscientific either, the initial conditions after the big bang were nothing but shit rocking hard until it cooled.
>>
>>153648404
I like it. It's kinda dumb, but it's inoffensive and gives the power a bit more character. Dunno what's the big fukken deal either. Punch dimension makes sense to bring up in the wacky world of rivals where they need to come up with some bullshit to justify the moveset of characters. It's also far from the craziest thing in the game, with Jeff having eaten infinity stones to explain him being big, Gambit being able to heal because his lobotomy got undone, Deadpool breaking the 4th wall to satisfy players not wanting more dps, and Elsa bloodstone literally does pic related because why not. I'm not usually a punch dimension fan but for rivals this feels appropriate and can be used to explain why Cyclops can use his lasers as a rocket jump or something silly like that when his kit drops

There's also the fact that if Cyclops is solar powered, then he makes no sense

He's generating way more energy in his optic blasts than he can possibly be drawing in from direct sunlight on his skin.
At least not without drawing in a ton of ambient energy from his surroundings

At least with Superman you can argue that he is an alien and can fly up above clouds to recharge his cells, and has been soaking up sunlight for years so he has reserves, And he doesn't use his heat vision nonstop

>>
>>153649305
It feels excessive, and makes his power feel more like magic (tapping into different dimension energies is what Marvel magic is) than a mutation.

>>153656435
>He's generating way more energy in his optic blasts than he can possibly be drawing in from direct sunlight on his skin.
You could say the same thing about just about any superhero regarding their source of energy. Just imagine that their cells are better at drawing out energy than normal human cells.
>>
>>153657694
>makes his power feel more like magic than a mutation
yeah because mutant powers like the power to control the weather totally feels like a genetic mutation rather than straight up magic
>>
>>153657740
That's just psychic powers on stereoids. "Psychic powers" in general is a term that does a lot of heavy lifting to justify some mutant powers as being biological in nature. As long as they come from brain waves and not some other dimension, they aren't magical, according to Marvel logic.
In any case, Storm's powers are at least partially magical.
>>
>>153657694
>feel more like magic than a mutation
Feels rather arbitrary to say, since plenty of mutants have powers that go way beyond fantastical mutation and instead are magic in all but name only. Hell, what kind of "mutation" is shooting eye blasts anyways. Mutants aren't restricted to just being mutates.

Like honestly, if we're going to go this route >>153657786 of mutations making sense when they create metaphysical and psychic powers, then Punch Force honestly makes a bit more sense than just having Laser Eyes. Like I'd buy the fact that he's been biologically warped to the point where he can tapped into a metaphysical force moreso than just suddenly being able to shoot blasts out of his eyes.
>>
>>153657974
Like I said, this is more within the boundaries of Marvel's internal logic. Doing shit with your brainwaves is a mutation, but doing it by tapping into an extradimensional force is magic.
>>
>>153658719
pretty damn sure not all other dimensions in Marvel are inherently magical
>>
>>153657694
If it was strictly a biological mutation, he wouldn't be able to knock over shit before fainting on the floor from exhaustion.
>>
>>153658719
Well yes and no, Nightcrawler and Magik have their teleport mutation drawing from the brimstone and limbo dimension respectively. Nightcrawler doesn't get magic from his afaik whilst Magik kinda draws magic power from hers.
>>
>>153658719
>>153658753
There are plenty of mutants and non-science supes who tap into extradimensional energy sources

Nightcrawler and Magik teleport through specific hell-like dimensions
Carol's Binary powers were her being linked to a white hole so she essentially had infinite energy to draw on
Kamala Khan's inhuman power is a shared pool of extradimensional mass with every other Kamala Khan in the multiverse. When she grows she's borrowing mass from other Kamalas, when she shrinks she's lending her mass
Literally every single Darkforce user (Cloak, Darkstar, Blackout, Vanisher, etc) is tapping into the Darkforce Dimension to teleport or give shape and mass to their shadow manipulation
And Dagger is related to the opposite with the Lightforce
>>
>>153648631
Well that just seems convoluted
>>
>>153648939
How did she avoid getting punched to death?
>>
>>153660629
She's very tough, she's gotten into scraps with several Hulks

She did a similar trick where she traveled to a reality where Graviton's powers went out of control and used the super gravity to accelerate and re-entered 616 with a ton more force

An energy source that exists at a different level of reality isn't that too far of a reach in a sci-fi sense. The 4th dimension exists as a IRL concept. UV light cannot be seen by us but it is an energy that exists on a different frequency. Scott's energy is just an energy that is one step beyond that line of thinking.

I don't know Xmen much at all but this has made me wonder, what's the lore on Cyclop's birth and just whatever happened until he got his goggles? Was he just streaming a laser beam from the moment he first opened his eyes or did it at least not start until puberty or something? And then once it started what the fuck did he do, run away and stare at the sky somewhere barren until I guess Xavier quickly finds him?
>>
>>153667189
I know he was in a plane crash when he was young and it damaged a part of his brain that would have let him control his optic blasts properly.
>>
>>153667214
Oh I thought he literally needed those special goggles to control the blasts, I don't know why I thought that.

>>153667189
There's a puberty metaphor sometimes and powers don't manifest until adolescence. Scott's powers switched on like a anxious teen erection during a plane ride and orphaned him.
>>
>>153667244
He does. Because of his aforementioned brain injury, he can't turn the beam off on his own, hence the goggles or his ruby-lensed glasses to keep it blocked until needed.

It's better than heat lasers.
