MSM2 constantly had Peter being pathetic, weak, incompetent and even a scene with him saying to Miles: "Why does this city even need me...when it has you?" after he reformed Martin Li which is noted as something Peter was NEVER able to do with ANY of his villains in a decade of being active and how he is semi-retired by the end of the game with Insomniac confirming that Miles has officially replaced him as the main Spider-Man going forward in MMSM3.

Then there are frustrations with him being the perpetually young, swinging bachelor that Marvel Editorial claims to want with OMD yet, they still make Peter's life as shitty and miserable as possible so why the fuck is Miles still in 616 then?

Miles became Spider-Man on Earth 1610 after that Peter died fighting the Sinister Six succumbing to his wounds. There he has the right to take the mantle due to the previous Spider-Man being dead (and even then all the stuff that led to him becoming the new Spider-Man felt like favorism) and that he was the only one who ticked all the requirements to be Spider-Man.
It all made somewhat sense (somewhat because it all reeked with replacing Peter)...until Marvel decided to smash Earth 1610 and put Miles into Earth 616 (AKA: the mainline Earth).
In any normal situation if a character with similar capabilities lands in a reality where there is someone already with identical capabilities, then the one that appeared should change his name to not confuse anyone...but isn't.
Not only Miles uses the Spider-Man title but he's constantly pushed by editorial and is made to have Peter look even more miserable than he is already by said editorial. Not to mention a lot of things that happen to him are rehersals of Peter's events but he somehow goes through them much better than Peter did.

What I don't understand and maybe someone can answer for me, is why would you want to make another version of that hero with another person in that mantle, when you can just make your own original hero? If you put them in a pre-established mantle, they have a high standard to live up to and will forever be in the shadow of the original person under that mantle, or the most popular iteration. They'll forever be secondary to them and just essentially be a supporting character cosplaying as that hero. You don't get that with an original hero, you get to make the lore and the villains etc.

So for example, Miles as Spider-Man. He'll forever just be "Black Spider-Man" while if he was his own original hero, even a bug themed one, he'd have a lot more uniqueness to his name and his own franchise. He wouldn't be playing second fiddle to Spider-Man. Its never a Miles Morales TV show or anyhing. It's always Peter's TV show with Miles as a supporting character, or Peter's video game with Miles getting a short DLC-esque spin off game. Even his movie, Enter the Spider-Verse, is more of an ensemble thing where people care about the ensemble characters more than the movie. If he was an original character he'd never have to go through that.

Like Cyborg, he's Cyborg. He's not black Cyborg. But Miles is forever Black Spider-Man, Mary Jane is currently Girl-Venom, even when there's no minority attached, Tim is basically "the other Robin"

X-23 also comes to mind. When she was X-23 she had a lot more freedom, a lot less association with Wolverine. She'd appear in her own books, be doing her own things with her own cast of characters like Kaden Nixon, and her own villains. Then the second she became Wolverine and was like "I am THE Wolverine don't call me Lady Wolverine silly boys it's Wolverine!" she's suddenly "Girl-Wolverine" by the fans and in his shadow, playing support in his books, only fighting hand me down Wolverine villains etc.

They don't want new characters, they just want those same things month in, month out. Marvel and DC have -tried- to make new characters outside of those franchises (namely DC with that one initiative that had like Sideways and that one assassin chick) but they always fail because they're not from those franchises. This was fine for a while until two things happened: Marvel super heroes became mainstream and social media became a thing. So you have these 'normies' now pirating the Marvel comics and posting outrage on social media about how all these characters are just white men. Well, this is bad optics but at the same time Marvel and DC both know any sort of new character isn't going to sell. So they have to 'trick' their audience into supporting ethnic characters. Typically no one would give a shit about Miles but slap a Spider-Man logo on his book and now that certain subset of consumers feel they HAVE to buy it. A new black character? Who cares. A new black BATMAN? Well shit gotta have my Batman.
