>Western adult cartoon used appealing character designs because they hired an actual cartoonist (Mo Willems)Why don't more western adult cartoons do this for their show instead of Seth or Morty face?
>appealing character designs
>>153651689You also missed the part where this show flopped hard. Cartoons are both art and writing and in case of "adult" cartoons, writing seems to be the most important part.>But both seth and morty faces writing sucksNow, yes. They both started as "fresh" or fun series that just overstayed their welcome and the creative juices the creators had to offer.
>>153651700Compared to shit like this? Very.
>>153651713
>>153651712It also flopped hard because until Bob's Burgers, Fox didn't know how to market to normalfags with anything that wasn't already renewed for another season.
>>153651689Huh, the dude branched out into adult animation? I never knew that! My familiarity with his work lies with his Pigeon books and Sheep in the Big City.
>>153651762Not quite. He was hired for the character designs, but he asked to not be credited, because he only wants his name to show up in children's media.
>>153651784Makes sense that he didn't want to be credited. I also just found out he wasn't even the showrunner, nor the developer.>Developed by Mitchell Hurwitz>Showrunner Josh Weinstein
>>153651689No idea the characters were designed by Mo Willems, but I can see it now
Sick, I knew that animation looked good for a reason!
>>153651689>Oh boy, not another Image Dump Fag thread where he actually replies. Even replies to himself. >Also with longer sentences. The clanker is getting smarter everyday now. Shut up (hehe) and post Miracle Growe tits to get this "mod bot" out.
>>153651835Yeah, I thought this would actually lead to some decent discussion on an obscure animated sitcom, but it looks like someone with a phone spamming pics.
>>153651689>Why don't more western adult cartoons do this for their show Because Sit Down Shut Up failed miserably and the divide between adults who revere animation and those who dismiss it as an inherently silly "genre" meant for easy gore/sexual humor has only grown wider since then. The pandemic also led to WAY more live-action comedy writers being handed cartoon show deals, many of which being the latter with no knowledge of adult animation's potential. That's very different from the past when you'd have a healthier balance of actual cartoonists and veteran comedy writers working together in series development (Groening & Brooks, Judge & Daniels, McFarlane & Zuckerman, etc.). It's become rare to see such a partnership these days like Bennett & Hely; most cartoonists now are just cogs in the machine forced to try and recapture Familyguy or Bigmouth's success.
>>153651897It sucks Scavenger's Reign failed miserably, too.
>>153651920Other than Primal, has an adult animated series that isn't comedy been succesful?
Not to be confused with the image dumper, but.>It's been a tough year.>We have been at war.>In Iraq.Holy fuck did that age shockingly well.
>>153651942>an adult animated series that isn't comedy been succesful?Does Invincible count?
>>153651889Actually, Google confirmed these filenames are Linux filenames, but the pattern is clearly botted. The way he posts every minute is a clear sign he's some bot. Also, it's clear you anons didn't post titties after my first reply and that clanker posted it instead. *facepalms*. You guys blew it. And at the expence of another Invincible thread.
>>153652004I'm glad its 4th Season concluded now so I could binge everything in proper order again. Its 2nd Season fucked me up with the way it was split.
>>153651964Successful enough to have 4 seasons to its name. Pantheon barely had two made, which was most likely one season being split in two for AMC+ to claim it was new. Anything else that has been serious was cancelled after one season.
>>153651689Disgusting dogshit. As per from America.
>>153652052There was also Final Space, which tried to do a serious cosmic horror story. Tried being the operative word. It tried to have comedy and character designs that clash with the tone of the story heavily. It made several narrative changes as it went on to its cast such as permanent deaths. Had it been shown with another art style, made the forced comedy less cringe, and given to adult swim instead of fucking TBS, it'd be more fondly remembered now. Hard to tell how much the generic art style and to force comedy was the author's intent, not the executives'. Did Olan get to finish the story in that comic book he wanted to do?
>>153651700Miracle and Susan are genuinely eye candy. It wouldnt have taken much to make the rest easier on the eyes either.
>>153651689
>>153652415
>>153652155Faggot
This show really was let down by the wider cast being insufferable asshats. You get two decent girls and everyone else is either a one trick pony (the arab guy) or a stock stereotype with nothong new to say. The Will Arnet coach character and the dumpy adam sandler lookalike who's constantly after Miracle are probably the worst of the worst.
>>153651823Unironically more attractive as a lardass
>>153651897That big mouth and bojack have found success has ensured us another 20 years of discount wannabe family guys. We reap what we sow. What's worse is how much the talent pool in hollywood has dried up. If you thought things were bad a decade ago while we were beaten over the head with jeet velma, get ready for how bad they'll be by the end of the decade when the only people with any sort of pull are wet blankets like seth rogen or akwafina.
>>153652415>>153652425Hot
>>153652448She had a weight gain episode?
>>153651689Oh that was Mo Willems? I never would've guessed.
>>153652004they're UUIDs. Common in coding as a way to generate content IDs without collisions. Generally a sign that something has been catalogued in a db at some point.
>>153652589There was a flashback episode that revealed she and susan were once best friends and a comedy duo. In said episode it turned out their dynamic was once inverted, with Susan being the skinny one and Helen was the fatass. Like every episode in this show it's bogged down with celebrity cameos and any attempt at character development is rugpulled by shitty jokes. All that's worth appreciating is the eye candy.
>>153653195>>153653167If the thread makes to tonight it I'll draw some Miracle art
>>153651713>an interesting case where the main characters look cartoony while everyone else is designed like your typical modern adult animated show
Miracle is wwoecdiscord's woman of the month for may.
>>153654480okay? Does that mean more art?
>>153654338The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers have a cartoon???When did this happen?
>>153654338Modern Beavis and Butthead is also guilty of that>>153654581A few years ago. It's tubi's only major exclusive afaik.
>>153654054Got damn, that ass. Thanks for telling me, Anon.
>>153652004>these filenames are Linux filenamesI've been a dev for 30 years, explain exactly how a guid is "a Linux filename"
>>153651909She remind me of the bitch from Mission Hill.
>>153654706>the bitchStogie is male though
>>153654338Think about Dave Sheridan's and Gilbert Shelton's styles doing a world 40 years future to them.
>>153654632Tell me about it. At this rate I might have to draw her too. Says alot about this series that all there is to discuss are the girls. They even managed to make Alanis Morrisett attractive
>>153654054And that's enough for me to pick this show back up. Much obliged
>>153654745Touché
>>153654066Cool!I'd love to see it.
>>153651942Probably not much.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_adult_animated_television_series
>>153657515Blood of Zeus looks incredibly interesting.
Make adult cartoons look weird again 2027
>>153657672SF was the last time such a thing happened, and it's never going to happen (in this decade) again. R&M managed to outlive SF, so that's the style people are still after for some odd reason.
>>153654615>Modern Beavis and Butthead is also guilty of thatYeah, that gets a bit distracting.
>>153651689Because studios are mortified at the idea of people thinking that and adult cartoon is appropriate for kids if it isn't ugly as sin.
>>153651726Close Enough doesn't count, it's just the Regular Show style again.
>>153659873This one sticks out to me the most. Dafuq is beanmouth doing in an animated sitcom?
>>153651726The choice not to utilize a hanna barbera esque style for F is for Family still annoys me.
>>153659911That really would've been an interesting choice, and I feel like if it came out around y2k then they totally would've done that, similar to Harvey Birdman.
>>153660069Just given the era it was set in, it made for the most logical sense. Unfortunately the combined powers of netflix and bill burr essentially destined the series to look the way it did. Artists take these sorts of details into consideration, suits dont. It really irks me how certain styles just arbitrarily become retrograde and undesirable. I mean the fact that you can only do HB or renaissance Disney homages as a tongue in cheek thing is annoying in of itself.
>>153659700>>153659717Thanks for the drawings!
>>153660865You're welcome dude
>>153651784Logical. Kids might read Pigeon, or Gerald and Piggie then Google him. It'd be like Dav Pilky designing a raunchy adult show.
So OP got me curious, so I'm currently watching the whole series for myself right now. Fascinating how they ditched the joke where the Arabic guy's dubbed by some English guy after 5 episodes.
>>153662661Every episode of the series leaves me with the impression that the writers had zero interest in the larger cast outside of maybe Miracle and the one tubby guy she pals around with. The others never have much to do and regularly have no real material. Will arnett and the gay guy are the best examples of that.
>>153651689>an actual cartoonist (Mo Willems)Good for him
>>153662972>Will arnettIs it just me, or do I keep hearing his voice in everything now? It wouldn't be so bad if he at least changed his voice a little.
>>153663010He's the Patrick Warburton of the 2010's/2020's. I've been sick of him since lego batman.
>>153663088Whoops, I meant Will Forte LOL.
>>153651689>Mo Willemssource? It looks like its referencing his style of books but I dont think he designed it.
>>153651726F is for Family seems to take more from KotH's art style mixed with Blue Submarine
>>153663152>The pilot episode of Sit Down, Shut Up was written by series creator Mitchell Hurwitz and directed by Dwayne Carey-Hill. It was originally written by Hurwitz in 2000, but he "kept it in a drawer for a long time" and brought it out when he needed money.[1] The idea for the series was based on the Australian situation comedy of the same name.[1] He pitched his adaption to different networks that were interested in the concept, but they turned it down, because the characters were "way too broad and way too self-centered and oblivious," and they told him that he had to rewrite it.[1] The Fox network picked it up in April 2008 under the name Class Dismissed, later changed to Sit Down, Shut Up.[2][3] Hurwitz's adaption was originally planned to be live-action like its counterpart, but he decided to make it an animated series to "avoid some work".[1] He chose to use real images as backgrounds after he saw Mo Willems' Knuffle Bunny in a book store.[1] He then contacted Willems to design the characters for Sit Down, Shut Up.[1]
>>153663176I was just about to post the exact source.https://web.archive.org/web/20100504183336/http://animatedtv.about.com/od/sitdownshutup/a/sdsu_qanda.htm
>>153651689>appealing character designsWhere? These all look terrible and they were worse in motion.
>like, can we get the animated woman from the e-insurance ad to just play like the new assistant principal or something. Never mention that that’s who that is. You just recognize her and she’s playing a different role. But we have not been that successful with that yet. Imagine if they got Erin Esurance for an episode, that would've been kino.
>>153663214What art style(s) would you have preferred, then? Cuz personally what I love about SDSU's are the use of broad shapes that gave us varied character silhouettes as well as Rough Draft's expressive sitcom-style animation. It's a nice mix that works well for an ensemble comedy like this.
>>153654054Which episode was this? Any more capworthy moments?
>unattractive woman who lusts after inanimate objects shaped like menI can imagine her being everybody's favorite character if this got made today.
Anyone got a Mega folder or a drive link of this show?
>>153651800Wasn't she BLACKED?
>>153664894From what I've seen of the whole series? No, not really. She briefly got into ageplay with Larry when she tried to "graduate" high school in order to qualify as a teacher.
>>153651689>FOXI sleep
>>153664923I could of swore she was blacked in one episode and thats why I dropped it.
>>153656778>>153659700>>153659717Good
>>153651689Shows like these actively reinforce the Western belief that cartoons can only be for children. Because cartoons for adults are only allowed to be sitcoms where being a cartoon is the joke - an "adult" genre is delivered through a "childish" medium. This is why adult cartoons in Japan can be in any genre you can imagine, while adult cartoons in the West are only ever allowed to be Simpsons derivatives.
>>153666834you're not wrong but you're obnoxious on purpose which is self-sabotaging and makes people disagree with you on principle, thus making you a servant of the very arguments you argue against

>>153667009>some cute background girls MANY, actually.
