This is Marvel Editorial's last ditch effort to cope. USM humiliated ASM, and they want Midnight to do well enough that they can say "see, USM didn't succeed because of the marriage, it succeeded because it was an alternate universe without reading order baggage." And the thing is, Spider-Man fans are probably going to vindicate editorial.
