I know, but Shaq voiced himself in another episode and Karl Malone voiced himself. Why include the other players in the story if they weren't going to have them, unless they were planning to have them but couldn't get them before the episode was due?

Shaq is the kind of guy that would insist on voicing himself. He's done just about anything outside of basketball. And they were all failures but goddamn I don't hate him for trying.

Athletes in general usually rather just have their name and likeness used and collect a check for doing nothing. Shaq will roll up into the VA booth and probably even want to come up with his own lines.
