Not all of them were animated in the 90s show but Berserk has a lot of them and in general anime/manga are a gold mine for freaky creature designs, just check out Apocalypse Zero(also check out for the CRAZY stuff mentioned earlier, some of the villains fit it perfectly).

And my point since my very first post was to claim that there is variety. yes there are plenty of generic anime but there are plenty of interesting ones as well. The variety isn't on a cartoony scale like western toons but rather on a scale that values different aspects , sometimes it can be cartoony, sometimes it can be realistic , sometimes it can be weird. There are more cartoony cartoons but anime compensates in other different art styles that you can't find in western animation(some of them are so appealing that they keep getting referenced in both cartoons and anime)
