Its when the content is pointlessly disgusting for no real purpose or furthering the plot is where the comic pushes people away. As an example A-Train and Jack doing drugs at herogasm perfectly fits in with showing how degenerate and fucked up this all is. Jack having drugs he has laced with "Queen Maeves vaginal mucus that he scraped off a guys dick" is where it gets too disgusting. Its not really meant to be a deconstruction and its stupid to try and compare them. Its more a parody with a lot of Ennis's spite towards super heroes, comics, post 9/11 America and the immorality of giant corporations.
