If you don't want to watch the video, here's why he doesn't like the comic:

>Didn’t know about the comic until the show was announced, decided to read the entirety of it before the show came out.
>Finds the comic too edgy for edge’s sake
>Doesn’t think the comic is a clever deconstruction like Watchmen, believes it’s just more of Ennis’ manifesto of his hatred of superheroes
>Believes it’s too formulaic, with The Boys meeting an obvious parody of a superhero and then finding out their degenerate secret, and then The Boys kill them
>Believes the show has more complex heroes, and that Ennis makes them all irredeemable in the comic to an unrealistic degree
>Believes the show’s characters not having V gives it more tension then the comic, where they all have V and can kill superheroes without much problems.
>Thinks Homelander is much more expanded on in the show.
>Hates the comics ending with the Black Noir twist and Butcher killing everyone
>>

I must admit I am mostly a cartoonfag so I’m totally out of the loop with stuff like this.
It really puts things into perspective, like this must be how you feel anytime the cartoon side of the board makes a thread like
>MrAutistic said SpongeBob was BAD
There are “influencer opinions” being parroted all over the place but they’re honestly so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. You think this video had some kind of profound impact but to the outsider who is just casually into these sorts of things, it genuinely hasn’t made even a blip. The world is bigger than that. And this honestly is still just “some literal who”, in the sense that he’s just some fucking guy and at the end of the day he doesn’t actually make anything worthwhile or good, it will all be forgotten about by the time the show ends and people can look back on both the show and the comic with fresh eyes.
The show is absolutely not going to be looked back on fondly.

>>
>>153667862
>1 good
>2nd ok
Yup.
>>
>>153668121
Difference is that Crossed is worse than The Boys in everysingle aspect so an adaption can only be an improvement when compared to the source material
>>
>>153668121
I don't really see how they could make Crossed appealing to the mainstream without just making it 28 days later. Which wouldn't make waves.
>>
>>153668029
>Unsubtle advertisement post.
>>
>>153667891
Did he actually read the whole thing or just the first couple issues?
>>
>>153668121
Yeah I don't think that's going to happen.

The Crossed movie isn't being produced by any major studios.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1640215/

It's going to have to fine a distributor first. And the director is the same guy who did The Sadness (A Taiwanese movie heavily inspired by the Crossed). It's going to be pretty gory, and I don't think any major distributor is going to pick it up. The Sadness only got released in the US by being put directly on Shudder.
>>
>>153668147
Ah jeez really? It was another old woman being propped up as a sex symbol because the casting execs are old women.
>>
>>153668202
He claimed to have read the ending. And he does perfectly describe it in the video (The whole Black Noir was a clone the whole time twist).
>>
I will say, pretty insane for the tv show to have Frenchie and The Female actually fall in love and have a full-on sex scene.
>>
>>153668232
That was actually a pretty shocking thing for me. They aged The Female up from the comic so she wasn't a little girl anymore. But in the show they still show her as being mentally a kid when she's found by the rest of The Boys.

Frenchie in the tv show is the one who is able to basically recivilize her. Honestly it feels like grooming to me.

>>153668121
I don't understand why they took Crossed out of all Garth Ennis comics for a live action movie. Unlike The Boys which got big from the cape movie media, Crossed's gimmick doesn't exist anymore, Zombie Media are a thing of the past after the 2000s and early 2010s so that would just fall flat and that is without mentioning how shock heavy the comics are.
>>
>>153668102
I can't really imagine this interaction happening with show Homelander and Stan Edgar.
>>
>>153667862
>now admits the tv show sucks and the comics are better!
Where does he say that?
>>
>>153668029
The opinion I'm relentlessly parroting is that Marshal Law is better and funnier than The Boys
>>
>>153668272
The guy who is directing the Crossed movie previously did a movie called The Sadness, made in Taiwan.

The Sadness was super inspired by Crossed (Zombies that do horrific shit). While The Sadness didn't become a big hit in the US, it still got a cult following (And I think it was successful in Asia). So Ennis chose him to direct Crossed.

I don't think it will be a big hit or be mainstream, but will probably have a cult following like The Sadness.

>>
>>153668387
But again, WHY? Why did Amazon or whoever that decided to produce it choose Crossed for a movie?
>>
>>153667935
Most of these are fair points if you keep in mind he did the video back when it was just S1 and I think 2.
>>
>>153668423
Amazon is not producing it. It's an indie production.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1640215/

It's going to have to find a distributor by playing at festivals first. With how gory it's supposed to be, it's going to be hard.
>>
>>153668306
Even then, it lost the point of its own existence the moment it got a sequel and Marshall Law became just another murderous antihero superhero, the only difference is he has the balls to say slurs and openly compares himself to a goose stepping fascist compare to the likes of The Punisher.
>>
>>153668446
My best guess is Shudder will pick it up. They also released The Sadness in the US on there.
>>
>>153668423
Because Garth Ennis has name value now thanks to Preacher and The Boys. Thank your lucky fucking stars they're ignoring his actually good content like Hitman
>>
>>153668446
That still doesn't answer why
>>
>>153668458
Without the sequels we wouldn't get Marshal Law killing hordes of golden age superheroes with a nazi tank tho

>>153668458
I liked it up to the Punisher parody. But yeah it kinda just spins it's wheels after that.
Doesn't make the original story any worse though.
>>
>>153668480
The Sadness, while not a major hit, did get some money. So it showed that there's an appetite for that type of movie. It's why they got the same director.

Adulthood is realizing you don't want your fav work adapted. We are a long ways away from the early 2000s at this point. Back then movies like the LotR, Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Spider-man blew people's minds and made people believe anything was possible and there was good people working to make the best they could with the material. Now that literally everything is an adaptation, movie makers just use an IP as an excuse to make whatever movie or show they really wanted while just painting it in the veneer of the IP to get it approved.
>>
>>153668891
Watch old shit or find something else to do. If people actually recognized this shit as shit then they wouldn't watch it "just cuz." This is the lamest excuse as to why people support garbage but also don't actually talk about or acknowledge it being terrible and going against what they'd otherwise want to see.

>>153668963
yeah yeah I know and this isn't the place to relitigate that. Nerds opinions on it as an adaptation has boomeranged all over the place since then but its place in their subconscious as the adaptation that proves in the unadaptable is adaptable and everyone involved will tryhard and it'll push their niche comic in mainstream acceptances still remains in their minds, even as it proves to just be a relic of a fleeting age of movie making from decades ago.

It’s the most foreshadowed and deliberately paced part of the story
>Homelander telling Butcher “I don’t know what I did to you but you got to get over it”
>Vought running data on the survivors of a potential Boys/Seven battle and the only survivors are Homelander and Noir
>Mallory telling Hughie that he was still miserable after killing Lamplighter because it didn’t bring his grandkids back
>The twist itself is an homage to Silver Age comics where Batman and Superman swap identities
It’s not Tolstoy, but everything’s done in a logical manner. Really curious as to what book this dunce likes to read by comparison.

I remember a prominent comics reviewer on Goodreads compared The Boys to Watchmen, claiming how The Boys was so much better. He's a known ragebaiter, but still.
>>
>>153670961
No, he just made basic, major errors about what happened in actual history it wasn't just him being contrived to suit his scenario

I like The Boys comic but that Dear Becky arc that Ennis wrote during like the first season of the show was shit.

>>153671807
Yeah, it was completely unnecessary. I think he just wanted some money since the first season of the show did so well.
>>
>>153668102
It did actually, they replaced Stillwell, but they made it shit since Homelander immediately starts threatening the stand in’s daughter to get what he wants

From what I remember:

>Claims Cortes was mistaken as Quetzalcoatl, a revisionist myth that only shows up in accounts written decades after the fact, when Cortes's own letters explicitly deny this (there's no excuse for fucking this up other then straight up not even bothering to check sources written in the past 30 years, any relatively modern source would point out this is a myth)

>Claims the reason Cortes made alliances with local Mesoamerican states against the Mexica of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan was because they were widely hated, when this is only the main motive for one major allied state, Tlaxcala, as the Mexica were actively at war with Tlaxcala at the time. But other states actually within the Aztec Empire generally allied with Cortes opportunistically to gain or retain political status after Tenochtitlan was already weakened by smallpox and it was vulnerable and they had more to gain and less to lose by switching sides at that point, with this kind of opportunistic defection being something enabled by the Mexica having loose, hands-off political rule, not their rule being oppressive, tho there are nuances: (this is admittedly an extremely common error to make and even reputable sources often don't delve into these political nuances, so there's no way he would have gotten this right without a Mesoamerican history autist helping out with the video)

>Shows the Aztec as unga bunga cavemen in raw Jaguar pelts like Hercules, gives Moctezuma II a Quetzalapanecayotl headdress etc instead of actual Aztec fashion, armor, etc, see pic (I'm not surprised this was handled poorly but it's still disappointing considering that looking at actual manuscripts or books on Mesoamerican fashion rather then just going off of random google image search results would quickly show that this isn't correct)

I had one additional point but I'm at the character limit and I don't feel like making a whole second post, but if you're interested I can do a followup

Honestly, there were aspects of the early seasons that I liked better than the comic but they completely lost the plot the more focus they put on the politics of it all instead of the corporate nature of it.
>>
>>153669589
>It’s the most foreshadowed and deliberately paced part of the story
Just because it's foreshadowed you can still find the idea kind of silly. I like the twist in context but in the back of my mind I always found it a bit stupid that Homelander went full debauched psychopath purely because of some minimal gaslighting into making him think he did some shit. His character might have fallen apart in the later seasons but I always preferred Starr's Homelander.
>>
>>153667892
this, both are shit, but for different reasons
the comic was made by a faggot who hates comics
the show is made by retard who is trying to make parody/satire of something that's much more bizarre in real life
>>
>>153668212
That anon is only partly correct. They basically created a new character wholesale and called her Stillwell but then after they killed her off they introduced a new character that was the former president that died off panel in the comics Stan Edgar and basically gave him all the traits of comic Stillwell so it's him in all but name.
>>
>>153668512
28 Years Later is kino tho
>>
>>153667892
I'd say they suck equally its just that shows have a way of minorly improving whatever source material they adapt mainly because it adds details and fun things like music and proper voicing. That's better than relying on your own pure imagination for a scene

I don't care what inspired either movie, the prequels were CGIslop with terrible acting and dumb shit like Anakin randomly building C-3P0 while the OT were classics with practical effects that look better than most anything made today. The only good thing about the prequel era was the spinoff material where they actually took risks. Otherwise the movies are just the worst aspects of Return of the Jedi but magnified.

Prequel hate was happening when they were still coming out and for years after. The people who grew up with them just got older and said they weren't actually that bad (yes they are better than the sequels)
>>
>>153671989
>Claims Cortes was mistaken as Quetzalcoatl
I watched the video in question and he didn't actually say that, he more implies that Cortes and the various coincidences around his appearance would have spooked superstitious ancient people (no actual claim about Aztecs believing he was their god), so it's kinda suspect that your whole argument leads off with this.
>>
>>153673849
If you ask me, Episode 2 is the weakest. Naboo really feels like a drag, while the Obi-Wan segments are the best.
That being said, the whole Anakin murdering Tusken is my favorite scene and I always go "Maybe? Nah, they deserved it"
It's like when Riptide got his neck snapped by Colossus.

It's easy to tear things down, but building them? Hell even having good ideas to build on is beyond these guys. Their most famous criticism is "Which character is the main one" as if movies with ensemble casts or rotating perspectives don't exist.

To a degree. The violence and sexual nature of the comic i think works. Its when the content is pointlessly disgusting for no real purpose or furthering the plot is where the comic pushes people away. As an example A-Train and Jack doing drugs at herogasm perfectly fits in with showing how degenerate and fucked up this all is. Jack having drugs he has laced with "Queen Maeves vaginal mucus that he scraped off a guys dick" is where it gets too disgusting. Its not really meant to be a deconstruction and its stupid to try and compare them. Its more a parody with a lot of Ennis's spite towards super heroes, comics, post 9/11 America and the immorality of giant corporations.

It delights me to see normies realize a show I checked out of years ago has been shit for years. I was genuinely shocked this season to discover The Boys had similar number to Invincible, which despite numerous faults, is a significantly better show even now.
