I know I'm late to the party here, but I just watched this and I really enjoyed it, mostly for the animation itself. The way it mixed stylized designs and movement with 2D textures and effects was really unique, and it honestly felt WAY more like a 2D cartoon in 3D than any other attempt I've seen. It actually felt like it embraced the level of exaggerrated movement, absurd physics, and pure spectacle that make animation fun in the first place.

But the plot wasn't bad, either. It felt like a big homage to Lupin III, and heist movies in general, with everything appropriately ratcheted up to 11 to take advantage of the medium. The concept of "hi-jacking a space shuttle and using a special magnet to steal all the gold in the world from outer space" sounds like the kind of wonderfully retarded idea a kid would come up with, but everything about the presentation was so kinetic and entertaining that it only made it more fun to watch.

What did you guys think of it? Was the first one as good? I don't know if they're planning more, but I think making these con-artists into secret agents is the perfect excuse for more funny animal action shenanigans.

tl;dr: This movie was just plain FUN to watch. We need more movies like this.

I enjoyed this movie. You stated it better than I could.
