Laika released the trailer for their new film and there's no thread?

What the hell happened that not even you guys give a shit about this studio?
>>
>>153669798
Looking forward to seeing more. Coraline is still one of my favorite movies.
>>

Coraline is an awful movie

>>
>>153669798
this looks like any other generic cgi film, I don't care if they used real stop motion to do it
>>
>>153669798
It's just a slow week, I think, personally I started to watch the trailer and stopped at the rats with nutcracker suits, looks good, that's all I needed to know I will watch it, I'm unsure what are they trying to make here, Laika's plots are 50/50 between good stuff or blunders for me
>>
>>153669798
Its /co/ which runs on bright colour/gore/fetish cartoon autismo. Serious works of art don't leave much to sperge about

aw fuck year

it's based on a book, I read it awhile ago so I don't remember it fully but it looks to be a mostly accurate retelling of the story
>>
>>153671697
>It's just a slow week
It's quite fast, sadly people's priorities lay with Death Battle and Glitch.
>>
Looks fine, but I absolutely loathe the song from the trailer. I swear I heard it in every shitty trailer montage they played at E3 (when it was still a thing)

Judging from the image alone, I'd say twittards. It seems all they care about is views for some particular reason.

You just described Portland.

You think laika bought bots to higher the engagement views?
>>
>>153676750
This made me scroll through a few different Twitter keywords and none of the posts have this level of engagement. The most popular tweet related to Wildwood has only 5 million views (not likes), and the official trailer on Laila’s page has 1 million views.

It’s gotta be coming from somewhere else.
>>
>>153677134
That's what I'm thinking.

What the actual fuck is wrong with this thread

Do these people even like animation or are just /TV/ culture war castrated refugees

It looks gorgeous and the quality of the animation puts to shine decades of learning and mastering Stop-motion and the semi-cartoonish style inspired by Tim Burton and northern European Romanticism from 2000's high fantasy literature and cinematography

I could keep talking about the amazing composition of many shots, the light work and how detailed and credible every tiny surface and material looks but the video speaks for its self

The mere tought of everything you are seeing in the trailer, every single object, backgrounds, cities, streets, houses, insides and props are totally tangible things that you can see and touch by yourself, all that handcrafted and paintwork put together to create small worlds makes me feel butterflies in my stomach
>>
>>153677481
I wonder how they did the rain.
>>
>>153671152
I think the eye bags might have something to do with how they animate the face.
>>
>>153671415
Yeah, at the point that they're 3d printing a new head for every single tiny variation in expression, it kind of feels like CGI with extra steps considering they pre-animated everything in CGI first in order to get every single one of those facial expressions.

I think it's incredibly impressive, but it almost does a disservice to the craft when you can no longer see the hands behind the work.

People think they do it with VFX, but they actually do it by hand too

They tie strings with white paint dots on them to a mechanism that moves them forward to simulate the texture and movement of water drops in rain, then use a mirror to direct that view into the visual plane

Its very important that the strings match the color of the background so they can become "invisible", this is one of the reasons they only do this for night time scenes where different colors and tones crashing can be avoided haha

You might think that VFX is used for a lot of the water animations, but they also do it by hand, VFX intervention is always kept to a minimum and reserved for final rendering

The trailer's been doing well on social media, it's just /co/ that is not interested.
>>
>>153679060
What social media nigga?
Xitter’s engagement is hovering around a 100k likes, Reddit’s top post about this has 3,000 updoots, Facebook is 1k likes, Instagram is 36k likes, even Tiktok with its inflated views can’t crack 600k views on the top 10 videos.
This shit is botted.

That's what happens when you make something good instead of slop. Based win for Laika and stop motion.
>>
>>153676834
While the Pacific NW seaside town setting is annoyingly oversaturated I can give Laika a pass since they're based in Portland and only make something original and soulful one every like 10 years

I'm going to assume you either work for Laika or you're a paid marketer. Wildwood looks neat but I won't praise it from the teaser alone. It was never Laika's craftsmanship I wanted to see improve, it was their storytelling. I also think a lot of Wildwood discussion on /co/ fizzled out after four years of delays and guerilla marketing. I'm going to see it, but I can't help but feel most of this board is skeptical after their last three films.

Why is the main character so wrinkled and haggard looking, forehead lines, eye bags and all? Isn't she a child? It looks uncanny.
>>
>>153669798
it looks really good, i hope its a success
>>
>>153670777
Why don't anons realize that when there's a post for criticizing everything in existence, no one will consider YOUR takes seriously. Hot takes used to be an art, now they're indistinguishable from bots. Isn't the goal of posting to start a conversation? Do anons actually just use it as a throwaway blog, not caring if their posts get read or not? I wish I could know.
>>
>>153677805
To be fair YouTube is giving me an ad for the trailer all the time and those count as views
>>
>>153669798
>What the hell happened that not even you guys give a shit about this studio?
I'll give you three answers
>Box Trolls
visual clutter, tons of grey stones and brown boxes
it's a kids movie grandma got on discount at Costco
it's one of those movies where it was no bodies favorite
>Kubu and the two Strings
a well-done movie
but is basically an art piece that doesn't have general appeal
not the kind of thing you just put on for movie night with the kids
>Missing Link
be honest we all forgot this movie exists
it's the The Pirates! Band of Misfits we have at home without the charm of Aardman of the mystic of Laika
Also I'm preoccupied with the upcoming I am Frankelda coming out in June

what was that trailer?
it was like some artsy fartsy version of Narnia mixed the Labyrinth
am I supposed to get excited for a deep look into the human condition? an epic fantasy with battles? or an adventure of a girl going into a fairy tale world?
