is there anything at all airing right now that even comes close to peak adult swim?
Nope. It was a wonderful time of creativity.
>>153676856Is full of adult shows now, rick and morty alone mogs adult swimmers
>>153676856Nah, the sort of creators that were making these shows are doing indie animation and like, are youtubers or whatever. Current adult swim is all Dan Harmon story circle devotees funneled in from blog writing gigs and higher education.
>>153677013Kys
>>153676856Not really, Adult Swim from its launch to about 2007 or so was a really special little period of adult animation where there was a ton of variety and novel approaches to things. Even the bumps themselves were great.
>>153676856Smiling Friends did
>>153676856No. We are neck deep in a cultural dark age.
>>153676856Common side Effects for me is the only AS show that comes closer to mission hill level.
>>153676856I hate to be that guy, but this was technically a The WB show. Kinda wish this also got the Home Movies treatment, but what can you do?
>>153677155For what it's worth, when it and Oblongs moved to Adult Swim there were real talks about reviving both of them that never panned out. If I remember right Adult Swim just didn't feel comfortable allocating the funds because they'd both require more money to animate than Home Movies.
>>153677187>more money to animate than Home Movies. That's the most logical conclusion, HM already switched to Flash by then so that was a money saver.
>>153677187>If I remember right Adult Swim just didn't feel comfortable allocating the funds because they'd both require more money to animate than Home Movies. You remember correctly, Adult Swim was basically running on a shoestring budget at the time and when their involvement in helping to fund the second season of Big O wasn't lucrative it put them in a bind for directly funding other shows.
Nope, not even close. The rest of this year is looking pretty barren for cartoons.

>>153676856Nothing will ever stand the test of time like Mission Hill, Family Movies, or Venture Brothers.

Adult swim in the early 2000s practically replaced MTV culturally as the cool youth culture channel. It felt like MTV when it was good, despite having no music videos. Basically like Liquid Television and stuff like that. Meanwhile, MTV was becoming all reality TV.
Favorite Bumpers?
>>153678592rubber baby buggy
>>153676856i can't imagine>>153677013first six seasons only of course. and it only mogs like, half of the old shows.
>>153676856Peak Adult Swim didn't have the cash to spend on reviving Mission Hill, sadly

>>153677062not even remotely
>>153677062lol nope
>>153676856why his hair blue tho
>>153679733Call me old fashion but as long as a show looks the same and sounds the same I think is the same
>>153681306that show had a lot of unique decisions in its visuals. I mean there are a bunch of blue haired characters in the simpsons and nobody really thinks that's all that weird.
>>153681317well no shit, that doesn't mean all of it is good.
>>153681353I watched the last season it was good, maybe not enough drunk Rick
Do you know what show I miss that one with the famous celebrity voicing that character, Some people find them controversial but others love them, you know the one who was in charge of everyone, but didn’t seem like they should be in charge of themselves, but why’re big so what’re you gonna do fight them hell no mother fucker you’d get beat. Oh yeah I remember now China IL they had that famous fighter Hulk Hogan.
>>153681353all good shows means all it's episodes are mediocre, good to perfectlike Mission Hill, Family Movies, and Venture Brothers
>>153677031The “story circle” is just an extremely basic tenet of writing. It’s not uniquely Harmon’s, he’s just the guy who talks about it the most
>>153677206It switched to flash by like season 2, didn’t it? Squiggle vision was only used for the first season.
>>153676856From the early to mid 00s there were times where I'd stay up literally the entire night just watching Adult Swim because they had so much variety and pretty much every show was fun. I don't think there's any modern animation block period that compares with that.
>>153683769Yeah, you're correct.
>>153677099You have low standards. Stop watching modern shows. My life is literally in danger if you watch bad shows.
