Nostalgia goggles aside, the franchise probably peaked with the 2003 series. The episodes were more creative, the tone felt more mature overall, and it also had the best version of April O’Neil.

Anyone who says this is a faggot who will white knight for all modern garbage.

Ehh
In theory that could have happened, but in reality, because of 4kids meddling, it was merely the best TV series. And not even by a massive margin, maybe like 40% better than the original, when you factor in Ninja Tribunal, Fast Forward, Back to the Sewer..

The best of TMNT is the first movie. Then 2k3 / the 4th movie, then 2nd and 3rd movies, then '87, then... well, we can stop there.
>>
>>153679775
I still need to play those games someday.
>>
>>153679581
Nah, the best TMNT is still the 80’s cartoon. It’s also still the most relevant and most successful TMNT too.
>>
>>153679662
That's basically all 2000s fans on here since they always used that term a lot
>>
>>153680051
only if you rope the toyline in as part of that ... continuity family.

kinda funny how you can really only do that for your FIRST version of something. After that, it has to be either directly from the new show or movie, or deliberately its own thing
>>
>>153679581
In terms of adapting the original comics for kids yes

But the best adaptation is still 90, and the sharpest writing is still season 1 on 2012
>>
>>153680113
>sharpest writing
>Mikey is so fucking special-needs he shouldn't be left alone or he could forget how to breathe
>Raphael is somehow scared of cockroaches despite growing up in a sewer
don't get me wrong, don and leo and splinter were pretty good, but..
>>
>>153680098
Nah man, the 80’s toon Turtles ARE the TMNT. 2003 was barely a blip on the radar, and the Mirage comics are barely a “Did You Know?” trivia footnote in comparison.
>>
>>153680129
so?

also did you reply to the wrong post?

Yes. Best designs. Best plots. Best theme song. Coolest fight scenes. Best drama. Sexiest April. Closet to the original comic. None of the characters were annoying. Kino show. Turned to shit after season 4 though.
>>
>>153680149
>None of the characters were annoying.
Now that’s fucking bullshit. 4kids Michelangelo is challenged only by 2012 Mikey as the most irritating iteration of the character ever.
>>
>>153680169
Sadly, this is true. even the 4th movie, which was trying to soft-connect to the previous movies, still gave us lobotomikey.

it's sad, because we know exactly what happened
>Adapting this gritty franchise for saturday morning
>can't exactly have this angsty, Wolverine-esque guy. So let's soften him to being a sarcastic wise-cracker
>well if he's cracking wise, what is the bright, RobinWilliamsesque comedian guy supposed to do?
>Uh well kids love surfers, let's make him the chill party guy, brah

then
>Hey we're adapting TMNT, we gotta have that funny party guy everyone likes!
it's sad. So sad. Michelangelo is supposed to be like, an Egoraptor type. Smart, but lazy. Totally ADD. Hates hard work and focusing, loves fiction because it takes his brain somewhere cool.

They always bring back 1987

I don't think it's the best at everything. Like the sound mixing tends to suck like a lot of 4kids shows. But it does a lot right. Favorite animated Casey Jones by a wide margin.

Not a high bar to clear when 87 Casey was pretty much just Dirty Harry in a hockey mask

Like all TMNT series, it has some really good elements and some really bad ones. It's pretty good overall, but you have to cut out or ignore large chunks of the series to maintain that 'pretty good' rating as the average, same as every TMNT series.
>>
if playmates wins the lawsuit against mattel, only 2003 and 87, as comics of said period, including the image finale are permitted to exist, all else will receive a ken penders level of purge.

that also includes nick, idw and rogen turtles who will be erased.
>>
>>153682837
Dear God, let that happen, the salt will be hilarious.
>>
>>153680127
And let’s not forget that the Turtle didn’t know about pizza in the first episode. Even though they had a tv. You would think that they would have seen a pizza commercial more than once
>>
>>153679581
The highs were higher but the lows were lower too.

>Nostalgia goggles aside, the franchise probably peaked with the 2003 series

Yes and no. This is probably something 2003 fans cant understand. As a package, nothing will beat the first few years of tmnt. It was bigger than the show. You had the first comic, cartoon, archie comic, cartoon, movie, hoke games, arcade games, ass loads of merch, soundtracks, music tours, theme park characters, parades, movies, etc.

Yes, the writing of the 2003 series is probably better. Maybe. The first few episodes of 87 are pretty strong. Nothing is better than the first movie. Its way better than any movie with dudes in muppet suits should be.

Toss up on April's. 87 looks better and drives half the show. 2003 has better dialog.
>>
>>153682965
Wasn't that meant to be a diss at the '87 show for how pizza-obsessed the turtles were back then?
>>
>>153683716
>Wasn't that meant to be a diss at the '87 show for how pizza-obsessed the turtles were back then?

People forget that in 1987, not every town had a place to buy pizza. And if they did, parents were not buying it. Same said can be said for Chinese and Mexican food.

By 2003 you could buy all that shit everywhere.
>>
>>153679581
While 80s April is still the best April, 2003 April isn't half bad either. They both make me diamonds. 2003 April is severely underrated & I wish there was more porn of her.
