Ok so now that the dust has settled and if we are to believe the story they gave us on face value you're a fool if you do who do you think was responsible for pulling the plug?

was it Michael Cusack show-runner/creative behind Yolo, Koala Man, Damo and Darren, etc (short series, sure).

Or Zack Hadel, whos profession is basically career co-host.

Gentlemen have we been bamboozled?

I think it's pretty obvious Zach pushed to end Smiling Friends prematurely. Lucky for him, he's amassed an army of followers who'll always side with his creative decisions no matter how inane, so instead of getting flak for backtracking on two seasons out of nowhere, he gets praised for "not dragging out his show" (as if these same fans wouldn't've lapped up just about any nonsensical new episode ideas just to feel like they're a part of a community and "in on some joke").

>whos profession
dumbass

See, knowing now that Cusack already has another show on the horizon, I feel like it was maybe Cusack who wanted to end things in order to invest his energy into his next thing.

It's pretty obvious that the merger is what did it, Adult Swim probably renewed, then the merger happened and they were told they weren't going to have as much freedom or budget and decided to pull out and end it.

There was going to be suit interference. That's enough for them to not do it at all. Lest they end up like any other "adult" comedy.

He was making YOLO at the same time as SF though

>Suddenly puts out late night video saying the show is cancelled because they are too tired to make a show
>12 hours later, official reports come out Netflix rejects its rebid chance and Warner Bros and Adult Swim will be bought by Paramount
>Cusack within a month despite supposedly being too burned out to continue making shows announces a new show with Netflix
It is so insanely obvious what really happened

Could you explain what happened? Doesn't seem as obvious to me... https://deadline.com/2026/04/netflix-dads-house-adult-animated-series-michael-cusack-1236875319/

NTA, but something about the future of WB / Paramount / [as] is almost certainly at the heart of this shit. They talked about being 'burned out' yet immediately moved on to new shit outside of [as] purview. That's not what a burnout does. That's what someone convinced the ship their on is going to capsize and drag them to the bottom does.

The last two 'season 3' episodes seem like they were supposed to be for 4. This would imply that season 4 was already well into production when the decision to end the show was made.

The final episodes we got were great. They showed no signs of burnout, the premise for the show didn't seem drawn out. In fact, the final episode implied a continued storyline with Mr.Landlord. The burnout decision doesn't make much sense, why wouldn't they stop the show earlier in its production if that was the real reason?

My theory is that - from the beginning -they only wanted to make the show if they could work under a specific kind of management. And when they saw who their new bosses would be and what their expectations were, they bailed. They didn't think the quality of the show would drop because of the episode count or their burnout; they thought it would drop because of shitty new management decisions. But they couldn't say that directly so they used some other excuse as cover.

According to an interview from last November, they had already finished two s4 scripts with a third being worked on.
