What are /co/'s genuine thoughts on the current retro zeitgeist? Seemingly every indie animated pilot is set in the 2000s, and uses trends from the era. Hell, not just cartoons, indie video games and music as well. Anything independent jocks the 2000s style. Has it gotten too stale/cliche to enjoy now? Or do you welcome the overabundance of drum n bass bgm, and hot girls wearing jnco jeans and soap shoes?

I used to get autistically mad when I'd recognize a trend that no one else was acknowledging, and the y2kcore shit was no exception. But now that people are starting to call it out, my contrarian rage has ceased. It's like any other fad, you have to sort the good from the bad. Planetron has artistic merit, even if it's hopping on an aesthetic trend.Although the difference between the "muh gameboy pokemon chiptunez" retro hoopla of yesteryear, and the y2k fanaticism of today, is the latter feels more disingenuous, because no one in the states grew up with weird jp-import video games. Most of these assholes don't even play the games they're ripping aesthetics from, they just listen to the music rips on youtube
