Why is it even a cartoon? It's a very realistic cartoon. Nothing that happens in this show is impossible in real life. Maybe there are stuff that's implausible, but this show is more realistic than some live action shows like Power Rangers.

Because the novelty of it being "normal" as a cartoon is what sells it.
If it was live action it would have never made it past the elevator pitch.

Mike Judge was known more for animation.

Plus the actors don't age.
>>
Why not?

John "only cartoony cartoons are real cartoons" Kricfalusi explained it decently enough https://johnkstuff.blogspot.com/2007/12/mike-judge-and-humanity.html
>Mike Judge has this mysterious quality of sincere, open minded truthfulness and he sees what's really funny about actual humanity versus phony popular trends- he makes fun of when humans lie to us about who we are. He speaks to real people.

>When so much modern entertainment is polished insincerity, it's refreshing to watch something and laugh out loud.

>When I watch King of The hill, I'm pretty sure I can tell which scenes are Mike unfiltered and which are teams of writers trying to evoke fake pathos. I'm caught off guard by Mike's jokes and laugh really loud, then it quickly switches to someone trying to manipulate me to cry over some writer's contrivance. It's a weird combination of elements.

Fuck, I didn't notice there was already a KotH thread.

I've start watching King of the Hill last week. I'm really enjoying it. I saw it a bit on TV when I was a kid, but I found it boring. Now, as an adult, I can properly appreciate it. I like it's down to earth nature.

The second point is key. Much easier to maintain status quo in a slice of life film with animated characters because they don't age. There's even benefits when you aren't worried about children aging out of roles, such as not needing to write around a pregnancy because an actress has a life outside of a show role.
