Do any other girls go to comic shops and get treated weird by the men who work and frequent there?
>>
>>153718205
My girlfriend is a conventionally very attractive girl who likes comics and any time she goes into a shop, she's basically worshipped or stalked. I'm a huge comic nerd, but mostly hide my power level, and one of the first things she told me when we were dating early on is "all guys want to talk to me about is comics. Please don't be that guy." She'd like to cosplay more but can't deal with the attention.

Anyways I've been in shops with her and it's honestly creepy and overwhelming.
>>
>>153718399
I am in Australia and comic stores are usually empty you have the whole place to yourself. Hopefully people here don't give as much of a fuck about childish stuff like that is the reason, I'd rather get a Beano from my local newsagency but they stopped selling Dennis The Menace after my dad died since it was specially requested
>>
>>153718205
Turns out the target demographic of comic book stores (40 yr old pop collector and /co/ browsers) are weird and gross about women 95% of the time.

For the record ive never seen a woman go into my local comic shop without her boyfriend or a group of friends. Im the only exception to this but i wear big ass coats and am flat so people usually think im a 14 yr old boy until i speak.
>>
>>153718445
I'm in the US and it really depends on the shop here. Anything that has a hobby area or tournament kind of play is pretty clogged with unpleasant guys, but true comic shops are normally pretty empty. Our closest place isn't too bad, but ironically the one girl that works there hits on her all the time. The owner is one of the few normal people out there, but this girl definitely wants to scissor and makes it known.
>>
>>153718655
Do zoomers even do comics anymore?
>>
>>153718205
I have never experienced this, but I've heard stories of it. Granted, my dad has his own webcomic/podcast about comics and would sell his print books in the store because he was friends with our local comic shop owner. I was friends with the Yugioh and MTG guys that played there and had been comic to the store for my subscriptions since I was a very young child. My dad even did a booth outside for Free Comic Book Day every year.

I think if you're a chick who's raised in it, it might be a different story but it almost makes me inclined to believe these girls aren't really trying to get comics...
>>
>>153718794
our local comic store shut down, the one time i visited an old frail man was trying to sell his box of vintage comics to the cashier, he turned him down saying "we sell comics here we don't buy them". The old man left defeated and once he was out the door the cashier loudly stated he was a dumbass. I bought a $10 Futurama comic and never came back

glad they went under, it was on a major traffic hub across from our states biggest mega-mall but something as niche as comics cannot survive in their due to rent costs. It's weird people approach your GF even at a convention if some lady was cosplaying as my favorite character i still wouldn't so much as speak to them. Just a passing glance
>>
>>153719060
Have you ever asked to get a picture with a girl dressed as your favorite character at a convention before?
>>
>>153718205
My european hellhole has a halfdozen comic book shops and one general purpose scifi/alternative bookstore in the tourist trap (it probably makes more from peddling Harry Potter merch than anything else).
As for the small shops, people under 20 are there with their dads. The only thing more unusual than women are cape readers under 50. If women do appear they are respected customers, every penny counts.
The big paying customers are women aged 20-40 looking for pretty boy melodrama, yaoi that is. If you're desperate for a girlfriend just hang out at the manga section in the scifi shop. This shop doesn't put any anitheft things to cape books, nobody would ever steal those.
>>
>>153719060
>It's weird people approach your GF even at a convention if some lady was cosplaying as my favorite character i still wouldn't so much as speak to them. Just a passing glance
It's even worse than it sounds. We went to a local con like 2, 3 years ago and she was cosplaying a popular redhead character that will go unnamed... 3 artists at booths asked her if she wanted to hang out for drinks after the convention. No one particularly famous that I even remember the name of, but she was just looking at their art or whatever and they couldn't stop their horny for that long.

Same con, like 10 guys asked for pics. Eventually it got to the point that she just held my hand and dragged me with her to every spot so guys would stop asking.
>>
>>153718817
Most of the regulars at my comic shop are zoomers. You got to remember zoomers are like 16-30 years old now.
Actually, the women and black dudes are probably the most talkative. The young Hispanic teenagers hide in the cape corner, the white dudes linger in the manga section, but they don’t really talk to the shop owner about their interests like the other groups.
>>
>>153719060
>The old man left defeated and once he was out the door the cashier loudly stated he was a dumbass.
I don't know why the comic community at large plays host to so many antisocial dicks, but it sure would be nice if that'd change.
>>
>>153718205
Nobody really cares if I show up during off hours, but god forbid I step in there during tournament time.

The place is okay otherwise, even for a nervous wreck such as myself, but the card players are the fucking worst.
>>
ive never seen a female at my LCS. only time was on free comic book day and people brought their kids some of which were girls
>>
>>153719795
I can imagine tournaments would be a difficult situation, but maybe I'm too autistic to know if I'm being treated weirdly since I just am assuming everyone's just generally nice or something
>>
My local comics shop is staffed by women and they all start staring at me and biting their lips when I walk in. I stopped going when the manager cornered me and said something like "I bet you got a big dick" and I was like "no, it's 5 inches tops and I only last like 2 minutes, also I'm married!" She then moaned and pissed her pants a little so I ran to the front to checkout and leave. Bunch of weirdos. That's why I only shop at man owned businesses.
>>
>>153720161
This is why I'm saying the whole "guy was weird to me at a comic shop" is probably because they were coming in to get easy attention and not actually there for comics
>>
I've seen more people act like creeps at the gym than any comic store
>>
>>153720252
And more people who are weird and mean too
>>
>>153719465
Not that anon but I've neve done it because I'm fat and ugly so I know that internally they're going to think "eww, what a creep" and really I guess why would you, as a guy, want to get a picture with an attractive cosplayer if they weren't making your penis hard? I just ignore them. It's easier for everyone. Really I just take that approach with everyone in general. Nobody wants me talking to them or butting in.
>>
>>153721010
I’m sorry Anon, if I still cosplayed I would get a picture with you but I’m also kinda fat so maybe you wouldn’t want one
>>
>>153718205
How would that be different from when men and boys go into comic book shops and get treated weirdly?
>>
>>153718399
>My girlfriend is a conventionally very attractive girl

yeah, I'm sure
>>
>>153721778
Right, if it’s actually true that you’re dating a girl then you might just want validation that she’s totally hot guys I promise
>>

>>153724627
>>153725447
This shit doesn’t happen to girls who actually read comics because I can tell you from personal experience it has never happened to me
>>
>>153723361
they don't?
>>
>>153724627
>>153725491
When I went to comic shops as a kid, I was treated no different from the boys. As an adult, it’s been nothing but polite chatter from both employees and the few patrons I’ve spoken to.
Even in places like mechanic shops, guys have never been weird about gender. I don’t like the perpetual victim mentality some women have.
>>
>>153726603
Same! It's a bullshit kind of mentality that holds women back and perpetuates the idea that we're all looking for problems
>>
>>153718817
Plenty of zoomers got in the hobby thanks to absolute
>t. zoomer
>>
>>153723361
Atleast like a third of comic book fans on xitter are women. It's not the 90s anymore you know.
>>
>>153718205
No this is real life, people go into comic shops buy their stuff and leave, that's about it. The whole talking and hanging around is mostly shit made up for TV. I've seen all type of people in comic shops, no one gives a shit, I've even seen old ladies with grandkids.
>>
>>153727662
I saw an clearly autistic girl like barely functioning in her 20's digging through long boxes as her grandma stood behind her. The thing I say is realistic about comic stores from TV is card game players do smell like ass, I hate them.
>>
>>153724627
Poor girl...
>>
>>153718205
Only "people" who go to comic shops are collectors/consoomers and thus, are subhuman by default.

If you expected anything different you only have yourself to blame especially since these attitudes are pretty normalized in Marvel editorial if you've ever read Brevoort, Lowe, Quesada or Wells' thoughts and opinions on women and relationships with how the reasoning for Sins Past was both shock value and to make Gwen Stacy "less pure" as its mission statement on top of typical Spider-Man misery porn and Quesada livid that JMS DARED suggest "aging Peter up a bit" by giving him biological kids in mainline continuity after they went through the trouble of having Norman commit infanticide on he and MJ's daughter.

DC has also been like this for a while, particularly under Didio's regime as he was the one who championed the rape of Sue Dibny because she was "too pure" and wanted to "talk the smile out of comics" along with him hating female superheroes to the extent that Azzarello's misandrist infanticidal rapist reinterpretation of The New 52 Amazons was actually TONED DOWN from what Dan originally wanted. And of course, Len Wein's infamous response to Alan Moore's uncertainty over Batgirl: "Yeah, go ahead--cripple the bitch." that was under Denny O'Neil as editor and Jenette Kahn heading DC so it's not like Didio was an outlier of that institutional rot.
>>
>>153719674
LCS owner sounds like Tom Brevoort if he didn't worm his way into Marvel back in the late 80s.
>>
>>153721778
This angry reply was the highlight of your day
>>
LCS here has all the freaks regardless of who they are. You have to ignore the turbo neckbeard conversations or the owner and employees constantly bringing up leftist politics to customers. One of the cashiers is nice and she has to deal with everyone there talking her ear off about schizo shit but unsure if she's been hit on

I had my little sister tag along with me at this book-off,I usually go there to buy the discounted stuff and CDs, and this fatso dude came up near us and near my sister, almost shoulder to shoulder. I thought he was just a retard with no sense of boundaries, but every time we moved to look at other stuff, this fatty followed, I had to give my sis a look to leave. It's weird to see creep shit like that irl. Kinda shamed that I didn't tell staff before I left.

>>153728949
Tell the staff next time that happens

And it WILL happen again

>That's the point where I mentally block her out and hope I find something interesting to read, but also just do some final small talk where I either say I like Howard the Duck or funny comics or some shit and that shes really nice for grabbing some comics for her boyfriend

Confront him, you stupid bitch. That's your sister and it's your responsibility to protect her in public. He's a fat antisocial weirdo, not a threat to you. That's a level 1 encounter you ran from. You need it to build xp.

Nah, it wasn't really bitchy, I totally understand and now that we're together, it's a lot more of an open topic we chat about regularly, do nerdy things occasionally, attend comic con or something... it's just no one was learning about her other interests or doing anything but like sperging about Chris Claremont or something for an entire hour long date.

They didn't let her talk about any other interests or anything like that.
>>
>>153726854
>At least like a third of comic book fans on xitter
those people dont read comics they just post about them similar to /co/
>>
>>153718205
Comic shops are too well known to be havens for very socially awkward, kind of creepy looking, weirdo people that not too many want to put up with. This should not come as to any surprise.

>>153719060
And I have seen some elitist fucks like this in them a few times myself. That always seems to be the most unpleasant aspect of them, that they are confrontational and very blunt to the general public.
>>
>>153718205
Not really. At least not where I live in Bongland. Nothing ever happens™
>>
>>153718205
Comic shops are not the problem, those are getting kind of rare anyway.

It's the places where you have the angry competitive guys like game and card stores. Those are the kinds of places where you have guys that are just..there all day long. The guys that hang out there for some reason want to make everything every new person that walks in the door their business. They also love to jump in on conversations happening between any other two people at any location within the store.
>>
>>153718205
I've never seen any girls in my comic shop besides the fat redhead that worked there occasionally. One of the customers used to hit on her so bad that the owner started putting her on break whenever that guy came in. But that's fucked up, that guy should have been told to respect the employees or leave. But the boss was kind of a non-confrontational guy who probably didn't want to lose a patron.
>>
>>153737831
>One of the customers used to hit on her so bad that the owner started putting her on break whenever that guy came in.
This is kind of why men saying "not all men" falls flat, because even if a man might not abuse/disrespect a woman themselves, they also wouldn't take the proper steps to prevent it and punish the "bad man" in question, even if they were in the perfect position of authority to do so. IMO, that makes they a "bad man" too. Very immasculine behavior.

No, I'm talking about actual dates. I think she'd have welcomed talking to people about comic shops about actual comics, without it ending every time in "can we go out sometime" or guys creepily staring at her or getting in her space.

She'd go on a date with a seemingly normal guy and a guy would sperg out about comics, the MCU, how much they loved Batman, whatever. Even normies are obsessed with this kind of shit. If it wasn't comics, it was guys sperging about sports or whatever male dominated hobby they found out she liked.

I like sports, comics, and plenty of nerdy shit, but was smart enough to ask her about her other hobbies, listen, and engage them, or make sure I talked about things besides just my hobbies. It's just all about not hyperfixating on the one or two small things you have in common.
