Why does marvel hate him
>>

>the actual embodiment of all the Objectivist slander levied towards Ditko's Spider-Man
>fantasy wizard (there's been something of a weird anti-magic/supernatural bias at Marvel for quite some time, but particularly in the MCU)
>Anglo with an Asian manservant (so the MCU fixed that but then overcorrected and then overcorrected the overcorrection)
>the only mainstream hero to get away with being taught by Asians in le exotic locale
>straight Anglo guy
>doesn't really have sidekicks or some kind of "family" to push for ESG/DEI quotas
>his comic stories are all about magical adventures but that costs money for the MCU
>Kevin Feige doesn't read anything made before the 2000s so Strange has to be comparatively less noble/heroic when compared to his pre-2000s days
>he's pretty much the last pillar of the old guard before the MCU collapsed

>doesn't really have sidekicks or some kind of "family" to push for ESG/DEI quotas
the most baffling part of your post is this. How does this not exist already. Dr. Strange has a loving wife who’s extremely possessive of him and clearly shown to enjoy rearing children. It’s the easiest fucking thing in the world that Marvel could milk, yet they refuse to touch it because keeping Stephen and Clea apart seems to be more important for some reason. Absolutely backwards
>>
>>153721031
because he has a loving wife and because Clea isn't dark-skinned

It's backwards because women fucking LOVE supernatural wizard magical crap, just look at Harry Potter or Supernatural or how many women are into World of Darkness. Or the sheer amount of magical school anime.

You could EASILY make a comic run or Disney+ series about Strange and Clea running a fun magical school and plug a bunch of wacky diverse Burger King Kids Club characters too. Give Strange and Clea some kids of their own and you'd be printing money.

>the only mainstream hero to get away with being taught by Asians in le exotic locale
This one always gets me, like where the fuck else are they going to learn it? Like they want to make a western martial arts/asian magic/mysticism character so would it not make sense to have them go to/end up in those places? People don’t give chefs shit for going to study how to make authentic sushi in Japan or even people going to study martial arts in places like China. Why the fuck is this specific thing an issue? It just feels so poorly thought out?
>>
>>153721483
The reason why "American hero training in Asia" is a problem is because it's born out of Orientalism which treats Asian culture as something shallow and commercial to be exploited/consumed while also not depicting it accurately. Asians don't come across like people, they're more like fucking elves, down to being surrounded by nature and being in tune with mysticism and spirituality and yet they're weaker than the hero. It's the same problem with the "magical Native American" trope. The hero can learn from Asians or Natives but not when it's plainly racist.

It would be one thing if The Shadow or Batman or Dr Strange actually went to a fictional Asian setting where the Asian characters were written like people and if the magical/fantasy crap and culture was accurate or rooted in their respective cultural backgrounds or reflective of how Asian cultures write fantasy stories.

But that takes time and hard work so instead you're seeing the "trained by Asians/natives" trope being replaced by "trained by Gods/animals/aliens" instead.

I would be down with a Batman story where he travels to China or Japan and goes through a whole wuxia/xianxia training arc.

>or even people going to study martial arts in places like China

See, the difference is that a real person would have to actually go to China and become immersed in the culture during the process of learning martial arts. They learn a little of the language, they see how Chinese people talk to each other and behave and dress, they see Chinese homes, they witness Chinese religion and traditions and customs, etc.

Most comic book, movie, and pulp fiction writers were not able to visit East Asia and had limited access to information about the culture. But now there's no excuse why you can't immerse yourself in the culture. They sell BL Chinese fantasy books on the shelves at Target, you can order Condor Heroes over Amazon, you can read cultivation fantasy slop on your phone.

Weren't they going to try making a Disney+ series out of pic rel and then it got cancelled or something?
>>
>>153721959
Yeah. It got canned thanks to Dr Strange 2's horrible production process but I'd wager it was because of budget problems. There's a reason why we don't have more magical fantasy live-action series that aren't just glorified police procedurals or notoriously low budget.

Sadly, magic is expensive.

Batman?

Worse, people like wong being an Asian manservant. They like that Strange treats him like a servant because it shows Strange's inherent arrogance and detachment. It's a fun dynamic to poke at.
>>
>>153721709
Could it just be oh I don’t know that the specific Asians are surrounded by that because they are specifically masters of the craft and thus have an air of spirituality and mystique to them. I mean if he was just traveling through Beijing I get that. But monks actually live in ancient temples in the mountains or in ancient woods. They actually have all of the shit which you described and they ARE wise men who dish out knowledge. If it was some random dude selling pork buns sure I would get that but the wise old master who lives in the ancient monastery and is capable of doing shit that is beyond what anyone could imagine is understandable not to mention it’s a trope in media which is made by the people who live in these nations.
>>153721844
You do realize that Danny Rand does that literally live in K’un Lun for years and people still gave it shit. Not to mention who is to say that doesn’t happen? Most of this stuff is done through quick backstory segments to explain where and how this person got their knowledge/skills

These most of all. Marvel's number one priority is the MCU, and synergizing with the MCU. Marvel comics is now there to have content for the MCU to adapt primarily, and other things to adapt secondly.

There's Strange Academy. The influence from school anime like MHA was pretty apparent to me.

Not for lack of trying. I didn't hate the ghost dog, though.

What if he had sex with Mordo? Would that help?

Only if Mordo was black.

Blame Hollywood and the assholes who made everything about race and gay politics in the first place.

Like what the fuck are we doing? They're not even trying to adapt the comics with Dr. Strange.
>>
>>153721031
Isn't this just about every major comic couple?
They are all required to be separate for universe demanding reasons.

>Hawkman and Hawkgirl must never be together any longer
>Ralph and sue have not been a thing in decades
>Wally's whole family were retconned away
>Spider-Man is not not allowed to have a woman in his life for reasons no one understands
>No ant or wasp person is allowed to have a significant other
>Wanda and Vision were separated for no actual reason
>Scott and Jean are together and separated every single decade
>Namor and Namora have been separate for a few decades now
>Frankie and Torch were split, then Frankie and silver surfer were split
>>

I like how you first acknowledge Wong exists and then pretend that he or Clea doesn’t exist so that you can bitch about DEI

Reed and Sue

>>153720749
Magic powers with no limits becomes a nightmare for consistent storytelling. Wanda is the main example, warps reality without doing shit half the time. At least they have his weakness/power be his sling ring I suppose.
>>
>>153720938
No reason to bring in DEI, that just undercuts all the valid things you pointed out
>>
>>153727843
Almost as if people date, get married and then breakup, just like in real life
>>
>>153728165
What happened to scapegoating nerds for the bad comics?
>>

He doesn't sell. He has never sold. Why would they care?

How does a magical sorcerer not sell?? Magic's cool as shit
