I feel like the reality is they gave them a big season order like the old days, but roughly the same kind of budget, or a little higher, you'd get for current shorter seasons, and now it's having to be spread out for 40 entire episodes. What I'm hoping is the "bigger" episodes are where they're putting their money into, which could be true since the premiere episode had a generally good amount of normal looking animation. But really it could mostly just be random and we might get some Blade Games shit in Pops arc episodes anyway.

Hate to be that guy.. but let address the elephant in the room, is the show woke? Just watched the first 3 episodes from the batch.. all the innuendo / fanservice was male-targeted, where is the gender-equality?
It's bizarre the boba episode, in airing order, was the best one so far (outside of Fix That Tape) and felt closest to the original. It felt like a season 6 or 7 episode. I liked the ending with the monster just thinking "why balls in it..." and leaving quietly disappointed.The episode writing makes it seem like Boba is shit but the people only like it when someone is conning them into it. Otherwise why wouldn't all the people who love it and buy 8 at a time never come back unless Casanova's there and hyping them up again. In that sense it feels less like chasing a real life fad and more just making something fun out of a thing that happens to exist. Mordecai and Rigby seem to be the only people who like Boba without Casanova pushing it. The Jim Carrey type alter ego was pretty good. I hope they have that kind of energy again in future episodes, and the pacing/structure was pretty natural finally.I can't believe I'm saying "more episodes like the boba one and this might be a worthwhile revival." Just don't make them all about some real life trend or fad obviously.
