>>153732800wow infinite money glitch
>Let's take GL, the superhero that is defined as being part of a group with thousands of members with the same powers and turn it into some highlander bullshit> BrilliantOh, fuck off Gunn
>Let's take a piss on Hal cause muh JLU memberberries Fuck off
>>153732800>one hour>three replies>all complaintsdamn dude is there nothing Ryan Reynolds can't fuck up so bad it never recovers? first Blade and now this
>>153733491GL as a property simply doesn't work outside of comics. And I'm a huge Halfag, but I've come to terms with this revelation.
>>153732800The effects look good imo
It does highlight the fundamental flaw with the ring choosing a person with just a first impression
>>153732800I like it they finally got those green constructs right, as a fan is not offensive or anything, Hal was always a moron
>>153733491There's nothing exciting about the James Gunn DC. Superman underwhelmed, Peacemaker S2 was genuinely bad towards the end, and Supergirl looks like it'll be the first flat out financial failure.
>>153734133Guy was the first Earth Lantern choosen in the canon pre-New52, he was just in a coma
>>153732800yeah still looks like ass sorry
>>153734227>Superman underwhelmedSuperman performed great domestically
>>153734288Yes, but they make these movies to be international franchises. You can't spend $200+ million on a movie that Europe and Asia aren't going to watch. Ted Sarandos himself umpromptly said that Superman was put on digital early due to a subpar performance in theaters.
>>153734337Superman is an American icon. Frankly, I didn't expect him to do well outside the US.
>>153732800>Still pushing John as THE lantern Just stop.
>>153734396If this series is successful, they will 100% adapt all of Hal's famous storylines and transfer them to John.
>>153734445Luckily this universe is basically doa and lanterns in particular is gonna be, deservedly, shit on hard
>>153734464It will all get shitcanned and rebooted after Paramount takes over WB anyway
>>153734445>Hal's famous storylinesName one GL storyline where Hal plays an absolutely crucial role and cannot be replaced by any other GL.
>>153734337You seriously expect the rest of the world be pro-America today?
>>153734478>and rebootedThey'll just keep making Batman movies and forget about the rest of DC characters forever.
>>153734396John has always been Hal’s backup/replacement and it makes all the sense in the world to lean on that aspect when you can use it to explain things to the viewer by using his rookie POV as a storytelling device.
>>153732800Should be a fun show.
>>153734515I am sure Ellison Jr would want to head the nu DCEU universe
>>153734542>it makes all the sense in the world to lean on that aspect No, makes very little sense actually. This is the first major adaptation since the one movie. There's no reason to not make it about John and Hal being bros. Absolutely no reason to prioritize John replacing Hal
>>153734542It would be cool if Hal was just a little older than John. But he's already old af, and he'll 100% get Parallaxed.
>>153734581>There's no reason to not make it about John and Hal being brosYes there is. Tension is better for drama. Even buddy cop shit does that at the beginning, dummy.>Absolutely no reason to prioritize John replacing HalIt’s more approachable, it’s a perfect storytelling device to easy in audiences to weird shit, it allows John to make dumb mistakes, just because you don’t get your fanfic doesn’t make it bad.
>>153734133You literally just have to overcome fear and nothing else, will choose anything with willpower
>>153734581>Absolutely no reason to prioritize John replacing HalYes, there is. You can't make a Justice League movie with only white guys. Cyborg won't be part of the team, so John is the perfect candidate to play the token black guy.
>>153734607Yeah, that's clearly season 2. Parallax. God, we might just get the whole fuckin' spectrum eventually.
>>153734615>Yes there is. Tension is better for drama. Even buddy cop shit does that at the beginning, dummy. This is achievable without having John actively replace Hal. Being bros doesn't mean having zero conflict. It means not making the story about one guy replacing the other>It’s more approachable, it’s a perfect storytelling device to easy in audiences to weird shit, it allows John to make dumb mistakesThis is achievable without John replacing Hal and it's something that can be achieved without having a fish out of water character.>Just because you don't get your fanfic doesn't make it bad Fanfic? John and Hal have gone on many adventures together that didn't entail one replacing the other
>>153734628>You can't make a Justice League movie with only white guysYes you can. The original lineup was white and j'onn can always tick that box easily
>>153734658>having John actively replace Hal. But he isn’t replacing Hal in this season, he’s been trained on the show.
>>153734542There's no reason to replace Hal. Let John join the Justice League while Hal pursues his solo adventures in space.
>>153732800I'm guessing that with gold on the ring the yellow impurity is out the window, therefore no Parallax
>>153734684It's pretty safe to assume he will replace Hal and I'm half sure that's already been stated by either Gunn or the show runners. Looks like shit for a number of other reasons too. Maybe they'll get it right next time
>>153734705In the trailer Hal's costume is gradually fading and turning yellow.
>>153734686That’s not how things work, buddy.
>>153734581>Absolutely no reason to prioritize John replacing HalSounds like someone doesn't understand how to court the Modern Audience.
>>153734781Neither does live action capeshit for like seven years now
>>153734800Anon I am reliably informed that Modern Audience wants Diversity Representation and some old straight white male is not going to bring in the Modern Audience and get the huge, record breaking number of viewers that hit shows like the Acolyte and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy regularly bring in every episode.
>>153734497Name one storyline like that for any nigger in any franchise
>>153734877
>>153734895Mosaic
>>153734581It doesn't need a genius to tell that using Hal in show is to help launch John because WB finally realized that he isn't actually popular and can't do it in his own.Still, I don't think they are planning to trash Hal to props up John or they wouldn't have been trying to find a big name for him.>>153734497Kinda interesting how I only see this comment being made about Hal. How "unimportant" and "easily replaceable" he is. Truly confusing who keep making these comments, hmm.
>>153734227Uh no, anon. Supergirl won't be the first financial failure because Superman lost 60M in the box office so that was the first one. It can be the second though, or third depending on when Clayface releases.
>Here's your Hal Jordan, bro
>>153732800This show is such a disaster marketing wise. There's basically nothing about it that fans will actually like, so they have to throw out these trailers knowing it'll just get shit on. I've never heard a single positive opinion. A couple years ago this show would've been Zaslav'd before release.
Human Atrocitus confirmed lads.
>>153734623So if Hitler had overcome his fear it would choose him?
>>153732800This looks like a show I might like and quite probably a good one.But I don't really like the idea of taking superheroes and doing unrelated genres with them.Green Lantern is sci-fi action. Making a GL show and doing a poor imitation of True Detective is just weird.Like if you want a True Detective-type show, wouldn't it make more sense to use detective characters? Martian Manhunter, Detective Chimp, Constantine, or hell any of the Bat-family.Not every superhero-based adaptation needs to be superhero in genre. Because many superheroes blend their action with other genres. Superman has had plenty of romantic comedy interpretations, which fit with some of his (and Lois's) comics. Likewise Wonder Woman could fit a romance-focused action show. A show about family-derived, situational comedy could work with The Flash or Shazam. And of course many superhero characters fit well into horror stories. But there should be precedent for it, not just something randomly done
>>153734581>Absolutely no reason to prioritize John replacing HalYes, there is. To put all the surviving Hal-fags in their place and get the job finally done. Payback for cereal lord and his rainbow corps and the DEI replacements that just devaluate the GL name. I can live in a world with an unique GL, even if it's John.
>>153733740Wasn’t the cartoon was doing well before WB canned it in a panic after the movie bombed?
>>153734728How you can tell that with the shitty lighting?
>>153736597>Defending John while shitting on dei hiresRead more comics
>>153736681John is a proven fan favorite in th JL cartoon. That makes him a non DEI character. Also you miss my point about this being the deserved punishment for Hal-fags.
>>153736709I don't even hate him. You would just know he's legitimately a dei character if you weren't a secondary>Also you miss my point about this being the deserved punishment for Hal-fagsSchizo babble
>>153736709>John is a proven fan favorite in th JL cartoonI doubt that people who actually watched the show (which they weren't many to begin with) would even place him on top 5.
>>153732800So like, new recruit lanterns now have to find a lantern, beat them up and take their ring when they get older now? How does this work?
>>153736709>in th JL cartoonWhat do you people act like this the only DC media that ever exists?>>153737230The funny thing, this show had less that 1m in views and yet some people act like every mercian kid had grow up with it.
>>153732800bring back zack snyder
>>153737299Better solution, kill the DCU and WB with it already.
>>153737299Why?
>>153733491No one ever really wants to adapt the GL stuff that has fans. A GL movie featuring Hal should work more like Guardians of the Galaxy with kind of a sarcastic, overconfident guy heroing around in a wacker, over the top high concept scifi universe with colorful and weird aliens everywhere. It should never really take place on Earth or in some boring regular small town. It needs insane detailed space stations and weird alien planets. Just imagine MCU Peter Quill with less pop culture references, but more running face first into trouble and not caring how hurt he gets over it, with Dragonball type powers.
>>153732800Why is DC so in love with making Hal an old guy? Why is he the only silver age hero that got older?Wasn't gray temples angry old guy Hal a really terribly selling book that DC decided to burn to the ground a long time ago?
>>153737358The thought of a white guy having the strongest will in the universe makes them uneasy.
>>153735247Looks great.
>>153737299>"We're sick of smelling the dumpster, bring back the toilet!"
>>153732800I'm scared anons, it actually looks kinda good. though it's obvious a lot of it is gonna be climax shit
>>153733217For x'ers like him, Green Lantern is Kyle Rayner and Hal Jordan is their racist dad
>>153734170>as a fan> Hal was always a moronpick one
this trailer is better
At the end of the day, no Green Lantern is that popular so it doesn't matter which they use. Now you can proceed to cry about it.
>Hal is infected by Parallax>Parallax is exploiting his fear of being past his prime>Sinestro hasn't wielded a yellow ring yet, his rebellion was still wearing green>Planet we see is Qward>Atrocitus is the first time Hal has seen a ring slinger of a different color>Entire series is Hal and Jon discovering The Guardians kept the emotional spectrum a secret until now>Series ends will Sinestro getting out and starting the Sinestro Corp
>>153737358That's what the 40- and 50 something in the studios read when they were kids.
>>153734288It sucked.
>>153734581Fuck white replacement. Nuck figgers.
>>153734497Paralax Saga
>>153735919It's also about having great willpower. I guess if Hitler wasn't a pussy, yes the ring would have chosen him.
>>153734497All of the best selling ones.
>>153738994Gunn is closer to Boomers than Gen X. Kyle wasn't created until he was pushing 30.
Apparently someone got a tweet deleted by WB when they posted their theory because it was too close to the truth they thought it was a leak. Take this with a shotgun barrel full of salt. Its adaptation of Salvation which is the planet in Peacemaker, or something. I havent seen or read any of this shit except when the thing was a dinosaur island in new Frontier. And hal dies. Lol. And like Jon gets put in prison for 10 because hes black I mean because hes framed for Hals murder (because he's black) which explains why Guy is the Green Lantern in 2026
I think I'm just going to watch True Detective and the Green Lantern animated series because I havent seen either and heard they're both good and this looks like shit.
>>153737230My top 5 was like >Batman>Flash >The Question >Vigilante >Shining Knight Now here's an idea for a good buddy cop tv show.
>>153737358>>153737325Almost every question can be answered with overcortection from the Ryan Reynolds movie.
Is it legal for Lanterns to use their rings to construct cash?
In case anyone didn't know, Tom King is working with the show runner on all creative decisions
>>153741192Good thing the show runner is Lindolof to balance out how bad Tom King is. What could go wrong?
Darn I was hoping it was the My adventures thing that's coming out.
>>153741192>>153741214Does that mean we're going to see Hal and Jon torture a bunch of guys onscreen?
>>153741294This is 2026. These hacks train of thought were 'let's make space police like true detective and add racial politics' So yeah we're going to see space police brutality. And we saw Hal begin to use his ring for interrogation or something in the first trailer.
>>153732800WHERE'S JESSICA?
>>153732800>>153735247How does the Gunnverse have less color than Snyder?>1000 hours in MSPaint
It should've been Guy and G'Nort in this story instead.
>>153734551Cope lmao
>>153741526The flashback shows a much greener suit. The browner one is clearly older and battle damaged suit. Use your brain.
So are we thinking Parallax corruption or what? Also killing Hal off seems too predictable. My bet is him going into deep space and letting Jon look after Earth for a while
>>153741967Jon and Guy are both slotted for Superman 2.If I had to put money on something, what ever they plan to do with Sinestro ends up moving Hal off earth for the events of the Superman movie and lets him come back for a season 2 if Laterns does well.
>>153741169Sinestro used it to enslave his home planet and it didn't alert of it to the Corps or the Guardians.
>>153741169I just see a hard working man spending his hard earned green bills.
>>153741934You really need to learn how to read before you tell anyone to use their brain.
>>153742119>complain about the lack of color>actually there is color>nnnnooooo don't prove me wrong
>>153741967>Also killing Hal off seems too predictableKyle Chandler is 60 and he really never had a main role in movies, just TV. It's clear he is one and done with the character of Hal.
>>153737657Hal is jewish
>>153742277>Laughs at all if Gunns movies being colorless comparatively to Zack Synder's >Retorts his suit is green >I dont even know what you're saying now because it's so retarded
>>153742389Too bad the writers dont know that.
>>153735247Xbox Lantern
>>153734497Anything involving his girlfriend, his early recurring villains, or his personal connection to Sinestro?
>>153742389Hal is more Catholic than he is Jewish.
>>153742423This isn't Gunn.
>>153743083You're not GunnYou're a fucking gay assed little bitch sword.
>>153743186>get proven wrong twice>chimp out
>>153739554You sucked.
>>153739401Isn't that just like, the first 1/2 of GL animated?Who am I kidding I'd love a half decent remake of GLA
I actually like John and hope this is good but leaning into the copaganda and military wank in GL at a time like this is a very weird choice.
>>153732800Why are we pushing this idea that only one of them can have a ring, when Guy is right fucking there?
As big green lantern fan I think this looks leagues worse than the Ryan Reynolds movie which for it's flaws atleast got somethings right and wasn't a fucking mystery on earth
I really can't believe they had Damon Lindelof and Tom King on this.
>>153732800Ah yes, swearing and neo-western slop that is trying to be like No Country except shallow and dumb.
Even the ring itself looks wrong
>>153743579Seems like ring/guardians are getting Hal to choose a successor and he's not willing to have a partner yet. There seems to be very little indication that john is straight up taking Hal's ring and more hal not wanting to be replaced/lose his position on earth.
>>153743579If what >>153740908 saying is true then "only one can wear the ring" might be referring to what happens in 2016
You people who thought James Gunn was going to fix everything are to blame for this
I'm going to watch this and enjoy it.
I'm going to not watch this and enjoy something else.
I'm going to force >>153743689 and >>153743700 to watch it and laugh at them while watching their reactions
>>153734337Superman as a character is too American embedded to do well in any international setting. There's a reason why Batman & Spider-Man does infinitely better than him at every metric internationally. All you can hope for with a Superman movie is to do great domestically
>>153733217Like it gets to a point. This has so little to do with the actual comic book "Green Lantern" that even pretending they're the same basic thing is a lie.
The more inane fanboy complaints I see solely based on the two teaser trailers the more I am convinced that the show will be major successful with general audiences in the same way that the Penguin show kept making people here mad for completely stupid reasons but normal people loved it.
>>153736709>That makes him a non DEI character. He’s black so to racists he will always be DEI. That’s all it actually means in internet discourse
>>153737358Because it’s a natural fit when he’s the oldest human corps member and his whole deal is that he’s just another cop in a space police department filled with thousands of other space cops. Seniority works for the character because so many stories revolve around him having temporary a replacement (Guy/John) or completely someone taking over his slot (Kyle, John). It doesn’t work as organically with anyone else. Alan doesn’t count, he isn’t a corps member. Guy’s whole thing is that he’s the asshole. Making him older doesn’t add anything. John being old would achieve what? Rookie Hal? You’re just replacing Kilowog with John, you think people would think that’s better? Kyle doesn’t work as an older guy either.
>>153741169I mean do Guardians even pay lanterns, let alone use any type of currency that they can use on their home planet?
>>153734895 >>153735080 >>153739614 >>153739675 >>153742561>not a single example is givenThis proves my point. Hal is a generic action man who could easily be replaced with someone more interesting and appealing to all people (not just white men).
>>153735997>Like if you want a True Detective-type show, wouldn't it make more sense to use detective characters? Martian Manhunter, Detective Chimp, Constantine, or hell any of the Bat-family.I've been saying this about the Question for ages. He'd be perfect for a True Detective ripoff. They wouldn't need to break the bank to make his mask work either. And I don't want to hear shit about name recognition. If they can put in the work to put Peacemaker in the public consciousness, they can do the same with any relatively obscure character.
>>153744015One of those dudes said Parallax saga you ass
>>153744015Faggot, I said ALL of the best selling ones. That's ALL of the examples. Your 'point' was BTFO entirely.
>>153739659DC should popularie what if type of series like Marvel and have Hitler GL
>>153744047That was Green Lantern Annual for 1994.
>>153744038>Parallax sagaAnd you are getting an adaptation of this. Congratulations. But I don't think Halfags want that, do they?
>>153734513the rest of it that matters yeah.
>>153743859That you spend your time tallying the opinion of general audiences to ours tells me everything I need to know about the substance of your opinion.
>>153744032Peacemaker was on a big budget movie first, had a famous actor playing him and he was well enough received, dumbass.>But muh JLU cartoon from 20 years ago!Is not enough to get anyone convinced it would be popular when he was just a small side character.
>>153743635I hate to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I get the impression the phrase about there being only one question around being afraid to clear someone as a GL and the tension of the situation suggests it's all a test. Hal lacks conventional fear so the Guardians want to probe if he's afraid of turning out deceptive and controlling like Sinestro or relinquishing the means to act where others can't.Finding a balancing act will probably be the message when he proves he can be trusted to do what others can't but still trust others when needed.Dollars to donuts though he's still basically going to pat John on the shoulder at the end and basically hand over being the prominent GL in future media anyway while doing important stuff for Oa offscreen.
>Is it time?
>>153744241>well enough received>budget 185 million>box office 168 million
>>153744285That's actually pretty good for a movie that was released simultaneously in theaters and on streaming
Anytime Green Lanterns get zeitgeist swell I become zen.
>>153744306flop
>>153744285Nobody talked about the box office success, dimwit
>>153735997>Green Lantern is sci-fi action. Making a GL show and doing a poor imitation of True Detective is just weird. What is Hard-Travelling Heroes?
>>153744285it was straight to streaming too, everyone pirated it instead
>>153744328so was kong still made 3x as much as flopicide.
>>153744317yeah because it undermines your argument that shitmaker was well received.
>>153743859What reasons did /co/ not like Penguin?
>>153744391probably because its a show about some random mobster and not a show about the penguin.
>>153744391This was a particular gem.
>>153732800Kaki Lantern
>>153744374Peacemaker was well received.
>>153744421more like johns butthole was well received by james gunn.
>>153744391>this black sidekick is woke propaganda >why is Sofia being shoved down my throat, who cares about this random bitch>why isn’t Penguin in a tuxedo and top hat>what is this, wannabe Sopranos?!?>where is Batman?>durrr nothing happens it’s boringJust from the top of my head. Nothing but completely stupid kneejerk reactionary culture war whining from one week to the next.
>>153744468all those sound like legit complaints frankly.
so john stewart is stealing kyle's origin again. these hollywood writers never read an actual comic.
>>153744533No, I believe Damon Lindelof and Tom King read comics. But reading comics doesn't always equate to understanding them
>>153744503So the kid sidekick, who Penguin manipulates throughout the entire show before murdering him at the end to keep all his dirty secrets buried, was bad simply because he was a poor black kid in Gotham? But if he was white there would be no problem but this is not racist because it just isn’t okay.Complaining about the central antagonist is legit criticism because uhhh she’s a woman so that’s woke and thus automatically bad. Even though she’s one of the breakout stars in the show and the character’s personal connection to Oz is overt foreshadowing on just how much of a duplicitous piece of shit he is, and despite her time in Arkham even directly tying to the drug trade subplot it doesn’t matter, it was woke trash to show her backstory. And her going crazy being thematic foreshadowing for the looming madness taking over from traditional mob families? Again, why does she have to be a woman, ugh, woke DEI ruins everything.Yeah super legit criticism. As is complaining that a mob show feels like a mob show.
>>153744533I must have missed the part where Kyle is being personally trained by Hal to be his successor.
>>153743571This may be the gayest post I've ever seen on /co/
>>153741485on my dick
>>153744533He's also going to steal Hal's famous storylines. If John is such an interesting character, why steal from others?
>>153744587>As is complaining that a mob show feels like a mob show.>>153744402
>>153744717>Hal's famous storylinesWhich are? I am still waiting.
>>153744722Really shitty critique from a low iq fanboy
>>153744746its a shitty critique to want what is advertised instead of an imposter riding the coat tails, eat up sloppo.
>>153744766And now we’re either being schizo or just plain lying. Embarrassing.
>>153744402>>153744766But it is about Penguin. The show was incredibly comic booky.>>153744421Which I don't understand at all. Especially since season two is considered the bad one when it was leaps and bounds over season one. It was still terrible, but it was at least watchable.>>153744468>>153744503None of these make sense post-show.
This is a thread about Lanterns and NOT about PenguinSo shut the fuck up about it
>>153744907It’s entirely valid to point out that /co/ always acts like complete morons and complains about stupid and often nitpicky things because they just can’t get over the fact a live action show is never going to be exactly like the comics.Hell I remember when this place shat on Fox X-men’s Quicksilver over how he looked in promotional material and then the movie comes out and his music speedrun sequence was considered one of the best things about the entire movie and nobody cared about his clothes anymore
we will never get kyle because feminist dykes
>>153745027The Penguin is objectively not a good show. It wants to be taken seriously to the point of shamelessly aping The Sopranos and then has the most non-sensical bullshit plot where The Penguin who they portray as a mentally and physically retarded sociopath magically failing upward to become the king of Gotham. The “character study” was a joke, their version of the Penguin murdered his brothers in cold blood out of petty jealousy and has zero redeeming traits and yet we are supposed to be invested in his success or failure. Not to even get started on his sidekick or Sofia. It’s a terrible show.
>>153744907How about you kill yourself instead?
>>153745027Fox's Quicksilver is terrible.>but muh gimmick!Gimmicks a good character does not make.
>>153745184And Tony Soprano was a sociopathic son of a bitch. Your criticism is shit and majority of the world disagrees because it was one the most popular and beloved shows of the year
SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE FUCKING PENGUIN
>>153745265See >>153745204
>>153745257The rest of the world not seeing the difference between Tony Soprano and shitty writers ripping him off to add “depth” to their comic book show doesn’t change anything.
>>153745565I'm getting really tired of people automatically defending adaptations like that. Same thing with the Joker being an embarrassing rip off of king of comedy
>>153745565Surface level criticism where you bitch that something slightly reminds of you a different thing only makes your argument weaker and all the more pathetic
>>153732985This, you can just keep introducing new lanterns like they do in the comic
>>153744015>Hal is a generic action man who could easily be replaced with someone more interesting and appealing to all people (not just white men)But why replace him with someone who is less interesting and less appealing to people like John?
>>153746086John is far more interesting just by having a military background
>>153746127Naw Hal's background and character are both stronger. You're a secondary
>>153746127I will never find a military background interesting Why not use architect john with his pretty constructs?
>>153746127If John is such an interesting character, why borrow storylines from others?
>>153746086>like John?JLU memberberries. And it's ironic because even in JLU, John was the least popular character.
>>153734288>Superman performed great domesticallyIt was only because left-wingers watched it five or more times in a row because of its anti-American message.
>>153746575What message?
>>153746560John is a good pivot characters to make other characters shine, he makes Guy Gardner seems like a competent lantern, he plays well with Hal as the buddy cops, by himself he is no Kilowog
>>153746575What was the anti-American message?
>>153746560Everyone in JLU is stoic and dull. It's not John's fault.
The only good thing i see this show bringing is holiday lantern threads coming back
>>153745758More or less pathetic than cherry picking and rephrasing part of my argument and addressing nothing else I had to say?
>>153744015>Hal is a generic action man who could easily be replaced with someone more interesting and appealing to all peopleIf this is true, why DC failed to make popular stories with the other lanterns? And don't pretend that it was because they weren't given a chance. Kyle was given over 100 issues, Simon and Jess had a series with 9 volumes, John was given to one of his biggest fans and always pushed in JL and Guy also had many chances. And yet, this supposed "boring" and "generic" character is more popular and successful than they are. Why is that?
>>153746630>"We shouldn't suck Israel's dick"Honestly, what annoys me about getting rid of the "The American Way" part of Clark was that it ignores what "The American Way" was to him.
>>153748287>And yet, this supposed "boring" and "generic" character is more popular and successful than they areHe isn’t though. He’s just iconic. Hal only sold under Geoff Johns.
>>153748397How he isn't? His comics sold better than any other lanterns and his merch sells well too. If he isn't popular, then literally none of them are.
>>153749018It sold because Geoff was a hot writer. GL hasn’t sold the same after he left. Morrison maybe had a bump, I can’t remember. But other than that Hal as GL isn’t a draw
>>153749105>Well written comics sold wellNo shit. Or it was just him being a hot writer than Morrison's run would've been a bigger hit. Truth is no one has been as good as Johns since he left. GL fell off more so because no one builds on what Johns, Tomasi, and Gleason established
>>153749320So it’s not about Hal at all
>>153749320What else did Johns establish besides the rainbow corps, i.e. the dumbest thing to happen to the Green Lantern mythos?
When does the space cop part start?
>>153749105>But other than that Hal as GL isn’t a drawHe is the only draw for GL. If Hal doesn't matter, then none of them are.
>>153749347But it is. Many hot writers have tried again and again to promote John. And yet – crickets. Whenever sales are down, DC brings Hal back as the main GL to boost sales. This happens all the time.
>>153749692Has become a formula and that's ok
>>153749692And then the sales don’t remain good because Hal isn’t actually that popular
>>153749931But the team is
>>153732800Anything green lantern related that isn't 2D is going to be shit. I feel bad for GLfags.
>>153749931Hal increases sales when no one else can.
>>153748397>>153749105>>153749931If Hal isn't a draw and isn't popular like you claim what makes you believe John or any of the other Lanterns could do better? By every tangible metric Hal is the most liked and successful out of all of them.
Surf Dracula ass costume design
>>153750317>Hal is the most liked and successful out of all of themNot at all. It is John thanks to JLU.
>>153750530Yeah, we can see how "successful" John by the reactions to this show. If anything, it proved to me once again that JLU was truly irrelevant and was glazed by loud few.
>>153750317That's not jessica cruz
>>153750530>muh cartoon from 20 years agoPeople only watched it for Batman and after it stopped airing it completely vanished from the public consciousness. It had virtually no cultural impact, especially when compared to its predecessor BTAS or its contemporaries like Teen Titans. Name a single tangible metric...sales, merchandise, fan content, search trends, etc. where John outperforms Hal or where John's inclusion in something has a discernible impact on success.
>>153750818Why don’t you compare Green Lantern TAS to Justice League and then report your results.
>>153750999GL TAS enjoyed immense popularity. It fell victim to the studio's management.
>>153750999Easy. JLU had 39 episodes and John only appeared in 18 (and that being generous). GLTAS had 26 and Hal appeared in all of them.
>>153751143Yet John left a lasting impression, and Hal did not.
>>153751102>>153751143Hahahahah great metrics. Didn’t want to include Justice League why? Doesn’t count?
>>153751181Suure. His comics, merchandise and fanwork is a proof of that. Oh, wait.
>>153750689>we can see how "successful" John by the reactions to this showIt's actually interesting to see that and it truly proves that he isn't popular at all. John "fans" have nothing to complain about and they should by pleased by it and yet, the reactions have been overwhelmingly negative because people are unhappy with Hal's role.
>>153750999You're comparing shows that aired decades ago that have been completely memory-holed. How about comparing Hal to John instead. Hal generates more interest, more sales, more merchandise and more fan-generated content.
>>153751290That's because DC constantly pushes Hal to the forefront. He's clearly someone's favorite among the executives.
>>153744468only the first chudplaint is culture war nonsense.
>>153751383He has been parallax, the spectre, the white lantern etc there is more stories to pull from, Kyle Rayner is a great character now
>>153751290Where on that graph does it say anything about sales merchandise or fan generated content?
>>153747212>Holiday laternsI remember jacking it to aunt carol molestation posts a decade ago...I feel so old.
Disney has fumbled the ball with star wars so badly, you'd think there would be studios champing at the bit to fill that vaccuum.
Jeff Sneider is claiming that if Lanterns Season 2 goes forward, Christopher Cantwell will be writing and producing it, because Tom King and Damon Lindelof will be working on other projects
>>153752177If those two hacks are jumping ship then this is going to literally be one of the worst superhero adaptations of all time.
>>153752177It's unlikely that anyone will watch s2 without Hal.
Why is the GL suit so ugly? It's CW-tier but way worse
>>153750530Yet his solo books never sell, his merch sales don't compare to Hal's. Casuals know who he is because of the cartoon that doesnt exactly equate to being a good character,
>>153732800This should have been cancelled like Batgirl.
>>153755552Taken from us too soon
>>153733491Ryan Reynolds as Hal was amazing compared to this shit. Which sucks because that seems like some great casting. Though I don't think Reynolds was the big problem with his Hal. I think he got typecast and they tried to Van Wilder up the character. I have tons of issues with Reynolds, but I think he could have been decent given a better script. And a number of the production choices were idiotic.
>>153745053Then again, Kyle is more than just having a dead girlfriend in an appliance. It wasn't even that great of a story or villain. Even in the 90s it seemed kinda cheap.
>>153745053Based, jump to Ion Sodam Yat.Not only would his storyline mesh with Gunn's depiction of Kryptonian philosophy but I think the zeitgeist will appreciate the GLC Daxamite vs Sinestro Corp scenario as a whole.
>>153735247That sucks. Chandler would be an awesome Hal in a proper movie that isn't written by idiots like Landelof and King.
>>153744032...and both Peacemaker and Question were brought over when DC bought Charlton.Blue Beetle too. I wish would could get a -fun- superhero adventure show with Beetle and Booster. You can also have Jaimie with all the alien stuff in its own series or film. That one that made with Jaimie was a mess, with BS like giving Ted a wife and daughter.
>>153733491Green Lantern has problems from its inception that were never resolved.
>>153751181>Yet John left a lasting impressionA bad one where a good character can be replaced with aura farming and the consumers will eat it up. John had no personality in that show as he was just a hard man in a team full of other hard stoics.
>>153756372>It wasn't even that great of a story or villain. Even in the 90s it seemed kinda cheap. It was a mistake in the long run because right afterwards, Kyle coped by leaving sunny West Hollywood, California, to New York City, which looks no different than Gotham City, and because they kept going back to his girlfriend over and over as if she wasn't a stain on the character as a result of her cheap death.
