Many of them even attempting to imitate elements from this cast and still getting less done with more effort.DC was too busy trying to be slick with business, they had a trio of killers in their payroll and should have just let Moore, Gibbons and Higgins cook.

If the choices are "stop being super heroes or come back and have to fight the US government", the good choice would be to respect the rule of law and leave. They could always return after the villains destroy the US military and the heroes have no choice but to help.
