Why are the classic Looney Tunes shorts so much more popular today than the Disney ones? And I don't just mean people prefer Looney Tunes to Disney, but I mean I feel like there's certain Looney Tunes shorts that everyone has seen. When it comes to Disney, I can't think of ANY classic shorts that I feel like I could bring up in conversation and everyone knows what I'm talking about.

It's mainly because Looney Tunes (and even other studios' cartoons like Tom and Jerry or Popeye or Woody Woodpecker) got rerun in network and syndication from the 50s to the 90s while Disney was strict and kept the theatrical cartoon shorts on any shows they did. Disney started airing more theatrical shorts from the 80s onwards but it still wasn't as often and part of it was on Disney Channel

The Disney shorts weren't that funny.

Simply wb cartoons are just funnier and more memorable. Disney I feel never really outgrew its rubber hose phase, goofy maybe being the outlier but still mainly focusing on slapstick gags

Woody Woodpecker fell off hard

It felt like Disney shorts were hardly aired anywhere. Most I ever saw of them as a kid was this "best of Mickey Mouse" VHS we had. Meanwhile Looney Tunes ran on CN and I'm pretty sure boomerang A LOT. There were even marathons just for Looney Tunes, whether you wanted them or not. Disney was more focused on selling home movies and promoting their newer stuff like Aladdin and Hercules, then Atlantis etc. Also the whole "Disney Vault" FOMO strategy with their movies kept them from widely releasing collections of their old stuff too often.

Wait, Marvin the Martian is barely taller than Speedy or Tweety?

>>153750043
Disney rarely puts their old animated shorts on home media or tv compared to WB

Donald and Goofy shorts are legitimately really fucking funny and if you disagree it means you haven't watched them.

>>153753225
Yeah. WB and MGM cartoons played ENDLESSLY on TV, while Disney was a lot more rare.

They very rarely reran the Disney ones except for a handful on House of Mouse. For the non-Mickey/Donald/Goofy ones barely ever.

This is partially correct, yes, Disney were grubby dickwads with the whole vault retardation, but they did had stuff like Walt Disney's Mickey & Donald (the latter run for years all trough the 80s and early 90s in Mexico and LatAm before TV Azteca got the exclusive rights to Disney shit, and malused them all through 2 decades with cutting out one third of running time for shitty commercials and censorship) and Sport Goofy for ABC.

Meanwhile, what helped Warner (indirectly) that half their library was splitted between the pre 49 library owned by AAP then United Artists / MGM and those run wildly on syndication, whereas the post 49 stuff aired on Nickelodeon and other channels even since the 80s while compilation shows like The Porky Show, The RoadRunner show and yes, the Merrie Melodies shows (mostly composed of the bad era shots of Daffy with Speedy) were made for syndication to run pretty much forever in spite of only having so minute amount of episodes.

Huh, whaaaat?

Probably came off as too aggro and unsympathetic for audiences at the time. he was often the asshole instigator as opposed to the sympathetic underdog like Mickey, bugs etc. I think by the time they toned woody down it was too late

You didn't grow up with these?

I would dip every single Toon there except for Betty Boop and Jessica Rabbit. Only the waifus deserve to live.

>Not made widely available
>Overpriced
>half of the shorts available in half of the sets were just the old late 80s, early 90s TV telecine masters and not properly restored like the rest
>no dubs.

Geez, i wonder why most people couldnt get them.

Something that always bothered me about Roger Rabbit was that Tom & Jerry were never used despite Droopy being there

Just fucking nuke 4chan already, and let it stay dead this time, internet is already distopian enough with Indiana ruling over algorithms and who gets views and who is invisible.

Who the fuck is JudgeDoomFag

Thanks to a series of mergers, acquisitions and bankruptcies, most of these characters are owned by Disney , Comcast or Paramount Skydance

Mind if I try some here?
>Donald makes a plane out of bread
>The trio investigate a house haunted by ghosts
>Mickey goes to Hawaii
>Mickey has a nightmare of bugs eating his garden
>Minnie's old flame Mortimer shows up
>Everyone gets together to conduct a concert. Donald tries to gatecrash with his own different song.

Most of the Disney shorts are boring as fuck.
>>
>>153750043
Being practically everywhere greatly helps a lot, the good Disney stuff didn't get that.
