>the next closest book to 1000 is Thor or hulk
>they’re barely in the 800s so it’ll take another decade and a half at the earliest
It’s funny that marvel will likely shutter before another one of their books hits this milestone

This has been depressingly anti climactic. They should have been plotting something big since they first hit 900. You know what we're gonna get? A shit anthology that rehashes old stories in a saccharine way. You remember the superman crossover? Remember how it referenced older moments!?
>>
>>153752485
[Spoilers]It's going to be shit.[/spoilers]
>>
I hope it's bad. Spider-Man fans are the worst comic fans and they deserve to suffer. Spider-Boomers, I hate them

>>

Unless they retcon One More Day, I don't care.
>>
>>153752562
No it's worse it's gonna be about peters mystery cousin they just introduced a bit ago

You should be grateful if it's just that bad, if they actually tried to build up to something you know it would fucking dogshit like everything else they do
>>
>>153752780
They have but only since like 992
>>
>>153752541
Thor isn't even at 800 yet, that happens in September at least, the Alex Ross cover is pretty cool

Unless they celebrate by clearing house, there's nothing to celebrate.

It's sad that a character with so many good, old runs and stories will have an underwhelming special issue. His most special issue
>>
>>153752485
is the issue spiderman becomes real and kills everyone at editorial that keeps giving him the dumbest fucking shit
>>
>>153752944
>Why are numbers so screwy anyway?
Well Thor was originally in Journey into Mystery, so when it became a full time Thor book they changed the title but kept the numbering. Let that sink in for a minute.
>>
>>153753100
But that didn't occur with ASM from Amazing Fantasy,
Did it occur with Hulk with Tales to Astonish, switched to Incredible Hulk?
>>
>>153753163
>But that didn't occur with ASM from Amazing Fantasy
I was thinking the same the other day, I'm glad that they kept the Amazing

Spider Man didn't take over Amazing Fantasy. Amazing Spider-man launched as it's own book.
>>
>>153752868
Really? I thought journey into mystery was continually released since the 50s. So it’s hulk and cap I guess

>>153752944
Consolidation of titles and the last 30 years of constant remembering chasing that issue one bump. Captain americas first hundred issues in his legacy numbering was another comic until they gave it to him, I never understood why
>>
>>153753245
I know anon, I remember the first 15 ASM issued. But I don't know why it was different with other titles
>>
>>153753279
Captain America even further behind at the most recent issue being #782, so at least a couple of years away from #800
>>
>>153753353
>But I don't know why it was different with other titles

Spidey was that big of a draw. They probably wanted more assurance before they committed.
>>
>>153753353
I’ve read a few of them, they were just anthologies of different types of stories. I assume they just gave Pete his own number 1 because it was a simpler way to run with the recent success of the character. Also 15 is a weird number to start at, the other tales books all had a hundred or so issues under them and probably just wanted to make sure that those newer books looked better on the shelves next to Batman and Superman which both would’ve been to almost 200 issues by the early 60s
>>
>>153752780
>You should be grateful if it's just that bad
You're insane.
>>
>>153752485
Petra Parker
>>
>>153752485
So, just to recap: they're going to kill Peter and have Miles replace him. That's what they've been planning for over 10 years.

What will our game plan be once they do it?
>>
>>153754283
I will simply do nothing.
>>
>>153752748
This is true. 600-900 has been dogshit.
Also reminder, but I'm gonna write a book, it might be successful and if that happens, then I'll weasel my way into Marvel and erase every issue since Civil War started and before he even revealed his identity. So we'll start like the 500's. And that will be the cue for myself and future writers that we will reach the true "1000." Instead of the fucked way they counted the issues for Marvel Legacy where they renamed ASM to Superior and counted those as well as RYV issues. I know the canon/story was morphed around those but technically those aren't ASM issues so this whole numbering is fake and gay. Yep, I'm gonna pull a Brevoort on Lowe and Brevoort's whole entire legacy. Might as well erase Disassembled and start all the other books back to their numbering at that time as well.
>>
>>153752971
It's not the true issue. Mark my words, somebody is gonna erase these faggots from Spider-Man's history.
>>
>>153752620

It’s Detective Comics 1000 and Arkham Knight all over again.
No, it’s worse than that. You’re going to have every page riddled with Nick Lowe’s stupid little editor blurbs, just like what happened in Spider-Man versus Godzilla.
the only thing that could excite me at this point is Nick Lowe beating assaulted in the street.

There is nobody who likes this shit. Not a single person on 4chan, Reddit, or Twitter expresses any joy for the direction they’ve taken TASM in ever since the fucking Zeb Wells run. Issue one thousand is coming out and the most positive emotion anyone can muster for it is apathy. And there is zero sign that anyone at Disney gives a single fuck that they’ve shot their prized pony in the leg. What the fuck did we do to deserve any of this? Why are they doing this to me?

>Hellgate and Peter fight drags on here till the threat revealed is peters cousin.
>Peters cousin having done deals with mephisto to gain the success he's gotten in life plans to bring a demonic invasion to New York.
>Peter and the heros fail to stop him resulting in a majority of the deaths seen in 8 deaths. Almost all the side cast and spider people die here.
>Peter then juices up with the serum he got from his space adventure to barely beat his cousin.
>Mephisto then approaches peter with a deal, he can rewind the invasion all the deaths in exchange for everyones memories of him
>Peter reluctantly agrees leading to the collective world except his cousin(who is now peters new archnemsis taking the place of old Norman)
>Peter now has to restart his life with no one remembering who he is and building up a whole new side cast of random friends

I think they were planning to replace Amazing Fantasy with Amazing Spider-Man before AF #15 was even published, before they even knew he'd be a success on that level. Some of the other books that started out as anthology titles like Tales of Suspense and Tales to Astonish rebranded with the #100, while Journey Into Mystery and Strange Tales just rebrand on random issues after years. Strange Tales becomes Dr Strange from #169 in 1968, but Marvel also brings back Strange Tales from #169 in 1973, they've been doing stupid things with the numbering since that long ago.
>>

They're really making it seems that dealing with Mephisto is optional for Peter Parker while anyone else who wants to be Spider-Man must go through Mephisto. Winderbaum and Bendis are going to sell Miles to Mephisto in MCU.
>>
I want 1000 to bomb. That is all.
>>
>>153756303

>>
>>153755251

>>
>>153752485

>>
>>153754978
Brevoort on his Substack openly admitted last year that Disney doesn't give a fuck about the comics beyond them being testing grounds for MCU story concepts and merch sales for toys when Spider-Man puts on a different costume for one issue like in 8 Deaths.
>>
>>153755108
Projection from editorial at its finest but given their egos its not all that surprising.
>>
>>153756489
Best case scenario is that post-1,000 high wanes and sales drop like a stone in a lake causing Disney to go apeshit on Marvel and gut their staff top-to-bottom.
>>
>>153757140
Even if Marvel did do a clean room sweep of the entire comics wing they'd just hire in even more movie focused loyalists, it'd get even worse.
>>
>>153752485
I'm not excited.
>>
>>153757202
Perhaps. Though maybe some of them will be quite retarded and not know much about comics but they might be passionate and willing to experiment rather than be soulless husks. I dunno much about who from that side would be shifted over.
>>
>>153757004
Because editorial thinks girls are gross and have cooties, that's why.
>>
>>153756303
It’s the last big seller that marvel has to abuse there is nothing they have after it to trick people into buying. It’s why they’ve pushed this to happen a decade earlier than it should be happening. Honestly the smartest move to make is to release the issue as the last amazing issue and bring spectacular back as the main book since it’s over 300 issues, then when (or more than likely if) hulk or whatever gets close enough to 1000 bring it back
>>
>>153758733
Man, why are so many anons telling me all the shit I already know when I just wanted to say I wanted it to bomb?
Also suggesting that they planned this in a decade is ludicrous. It's not gonna sell that well, it's happening faster because they wanted those short term triple shipping "profits." If they thought this shit was gonna do gangbusters they would have done more of those other 1000 issues like Marvel 1000 or Amazing Fantasy 1000. Man, those were postively jewish on their part.

They recently deconfirmed her being his sister in Guggenheim's Spider-Man and Wolverine series. She was swept under the rug so quickly afterwards that I assume either Guggenheim or someone above him made it their goal to get rid of Peter's long lost sister. >>
>>153759558
Did marvel not see Bendis tanking Superman after being brought on for THAT 1000th issue?
>>
>>153752485
Thinking on it, I assume this is going to be an anthology book like the Spider-man/Superman comic, lots of different mini stories from different creatives led by a larger A story. I think in the long term marvel will probably do a lot more books like that than monthlys, they're getting absolutely smoked in the current set up and they just fired a boatload of their editorial.
>>
>>153763307
900 was shit because the story it told was stupid and the only potentially interesting thing that could’ve happened was Pete finally meeting up with flash after he was resurrected was just a wet fart that in no way acknowledged that. 800 was only “good” because Slott was almost done with his decade long strangle hold on the book 801 should’ve been the anniversary issue the red goblin story sucked. 700 had a cool cover to cover the fact that the story was about replace Peter in the dumbest way in a storyline that dragged on for a YEAR longer than it had story for. And I genuinely don’t remember issue 600 but I think it had a decent romita jr cover

Because society uses a base 10 number system and Marvel themselves is hyping up the comic based on the issue number.
You don't see them go "Holy shit true believers! It's Issue #936!" and plaster the number all over their marketing for it.

They just did nostalgia bait because Venom hit the same number as the suit's first appearance in ASM of 252.
>>
>>153768565
Oh so you’re a gullible moron that repeatedly gets hyped up about a round number?
>>

Amazing Spider-Man went bi-weekly for a few years with rotating creative teams to spread the workload, which gooses its numbers. This is also why Action Comics hit 1000 so early- it switched to a weekly schedule in the 80s.

Thor also took like 5 years off publication after Avengers Dissambled, until the JMS reboot.

It was three times a month during brand new day and has been double shipping for most of that time after. We’ve had 100 issues every 4 or so years, the next book to hit even close to that number won’t do so for at LEAST 20 years. This genuinely feels as desperate as possible to get a quick cash grab before the industry collapses in on itself.
>>
>>153768632
No because I don't get hyped of for anything in modern Spider-Man.
Doesn't mean Marvel isn't going to try you corpo-simping cuckold.

Detective comics did a special for its 1027th issue since that Batman started in issue 27. I was SHOCKED that they cancelled the Felicia comic at issue twelve since it seems like a slam dunk to push the 13th issue of that as something special

Hell I remember Spencer’s run on amazing would celebrate the anniversary issues it had like 25 and 50 while THEN celebrating the 825th and 850th total issue of the title since he started fresh on issue 802

Marvel double dipping I guess

The run was pretty good and yeah both issues would be double sized. I really felt that a lot of Spencer’s run would’ve benefited from having a second title to push so many of its side issues to. It ended just after 875 but so many of the arcs had issues set between the numbered issues and “giant sized” specials setting up or finishing stories. I’d really like to hear what Spencer was thinking I know he was screwed out of an ending but the mother fucker was writing like a madman it was almost an issue a week
>>
How would you guys have reacted if Spencer undid one more day, PPxMJ married again, then the Paul stuff still happened?
>>
>>153752562
Agree.
Action comics was the only 1000 issue that felt big, Jurggen and Kelly aren't as different as writer quality wise and Jurggen botched some things in his run, but was a nice way to end one of the writer with most superman issues in the milestone 1000 issue.
Shame Bendis and Metzer were in the issue instead Morrison or Elliot S. Maggin

Spencer jumped ship to Substack after Covid hit for the financial security and realized that he had set up so many subplots with no hope of resolving any of them satisfactorily before he was set to leave, so he did the best he could to provide some form of resolution, which also required all those extra issues.
>>
>>153759558
can someone fucking kill bendis already?
>>
>>153769321
I’m talking like his kraven story was only about 5 issues in the numbering but every issue had an inbetween issue not counted to tell a story about a side character. Sinister war was it own mini on top of the story told in amazing. Dude certainly wrote well over 100 issues in his run even though only 75 issues were counted in the run. I always felt that they should’ve put a lot of those stories in friendly neighborhood which was the side book at the time, I think they could’ve gotten that book up to 50 issues total with its own legacy numbering
