And Jessica Jones was pretty much abused by Purple Man. The 2000s had a lot of rape in comics. I think Jessica Jones was first, then Black Cat and Kate Bishop later.

Fun fact, Bendis was a huge fan of Claremont's Avengers Annual #10. Avengers Annual #10 was Claremont's response to a comic magazine's article entitled "The Rape of Ms Marvel". Ms Marvel insulted the other Avengers over her mistreatment and then stayed X-Men aligned for a while as Binary. Claremont had written Ms Marvel's solo title, was upset with her treatment in Avengers #200 and upset by the article.

In Avengers #200, Ms Marvel, post having her solo book cancelled, is written out of the series (common when characters solo books were cancelled) by getting pregnant with a bad guy in a weird way. And that Avengers #200 was only written because a What If..? story had a plotline too similar to the original version of the story. In the What If..? story, Carol is impregnated by the Supreme Intelligence of the Kree.

So basically, a What If..? story being too similar to the later Avengers #200 meant last minute rewrites of #200. Jim Shooter, the EiC who is also credited on the book, doesn't remember contributing anything but did apologise for the poor state of the book on his blog many years later.

So I guess what I am saying is, a shit show of a laste minute rush to change Avengers #200 because of a What If..? story created a small backlash with an article which created Avengers Annual #10 which inspired Bendis' ideas for Jessica Jones, which influenced a bunch of how 2000s Marvel acted. But that is just how Bendis roles.
