Primal was going to end the MCs story in season 2 and move on to an anthology style.
However season 2's ending was rushed and shit and added on to the running joke that Genndy can't write endings.
Then when starting up production on season 34 he diced to continue on with the MC's storyline instead and stuck the landing.
It was a surprising turn of events which makes it more notable in the current context.

Chainsaw man was interesting because you could clearly see what the author was going for, but that he was also clearly suffering burnout and just said fuck it and didn't do the final portion of needed buildup to make it work.
