So are modern episodic cartoons just not allowed to be anything but slice of life comedies?

We've had numerous serialized shows taking up the mantle of "the next Avatar" or "the next Gravity Falls" but I've yet to see any episodic cartoon that's even within an iota of "the next Samurai Jack" or "the next Batman TAS"

Avatar is overrated TMNT was better

You're old and things are never going to be the way they were when you were a kid. Episodic is a dead format, streaming killed it. It was always a crutch to prevent casual viewers from getting confused if they didn't catch the previous episodes. Now that the majority of shows are on streaming, there's no need for this anymore. Showrunners can finally afford to tell stories that don't have to be resolved in a 20 to 40 minutes timeframe.

Do you really believe that shit like ATHF or Beavis and Butt-Head would be serialized if they were made today?

The fact that kids flocked to anime as soon as it became easily accesible was the final nail in the coffin for episodic action series.

>The fact that kids flocked to anime
Kids are addicted to social media and videogames most of them don't give a fuck about anime unless they have weeb parent that forces them to watch it, the few cartoons they enjoy watching are 3D which is scientifically proven to be their preferred animation style.

They also prefer 3D over anime as we saw with Zootopia 2
>>

Why were the metrics for Transformers Earthspark, Star Trek Prodigy, Zombies Reanimated, and Max and the Midknights so shit
>>
>>153768953
Right, ignore all the sales figures that show that boys and girls 8-15 are all watching anime, reading manga, and actually buying merch ten times as much as western comics and cartoons
