I personally wouldn't have wanted Jax to have abstracted, but I think that that's kind of point. He wasn't doing okay, and even in a wonderful, utopic environment like we see at the end, he would've still been miserable. He was self sabotaging to the last and was unable to grow, even when he had the chance to. >He was unable to overcome his issues in a meaningful, long-term way. In his 'torment by Caine' scene, he is stripped down and mocked by Ribbit, Kaufmo, and Pomni. I think Jax's ending is what he deserved to get, and what he "chose" with his actions, but it could've been different and while it's sad that it's not, it's hard to give a character like Jax a satisfying, happy ending.>I really thought he'd get there, though.
