Goose wanted to write about Jax and Pomni and the rest was just window dressing, but the window dressing was cooler than the center of the story we got.The best retool of the story is to equalize Jax’s relevance with the rest of the non-Pomni characters, giving Ragatha her own episode and fleshing out everything else with more screen time, and then having Caine function as the final narrative confrontation. Caine’s position and flaw made for the more interesting “one who never gives up trying to help vs one who can’t accept help” scenario which is actually closer to the short story that inspired it. Jax didn’t have the sauce.

The story was austistically centered around the worst character but it still ended up being pretty good anyway, mostly due to Goose’s eclectic taste/sense of humor/aesthetic sensibility and the dynamic animation. It stings a little that the setting and characters were used for a fall-of-Jax plot but for what it was they executed the idea well. I still liked the show and give it an 8/10.

Ever since the great Ragatha Reddit Implosion of '26 I've been going through all sorts of feelings about Jax and Ragatha. Then I cooled off on it because it's just a cartoon and now after the finale I'm back to being baffled, especially with what we know about Jax now. Now we know he doesn't just dislike Rags because of her personality, but because she's *motherly*. Like damn I do believe that she's like (to Jax) the manifestation of something he wants, or resents, but she's a feminine woman who tries to take care of everyone and make sure that they're loved. I'm starting to think that they never got much time one-on-one and why in that one piece of Jax's mind Ragatha had already abstracted because Goose thought she couldn't write anything without giving away Jax's mom twist. You know what they said to each other in the Spudsy's episode? That could've been close to an actual exchange Jax had with his mom. Like damn Goose you had something really interesting and I wish you hadn't been afraid of it.
