Back in 99 they would have presumably kept going and never healed the turtles. That this conveniently makes it possible to lead into Volume 4 may be a coincidence.
For the record, if the original comic wasn't canned the plan was for Lady Shredder to be Karai.

>>153954823Yeah, this ending was pretty terrible. I kinda liked the run overall, there was a lot of interesting ideas thrown out there. Edgier than I'd like in places, and Pimiko's outfit was ridiculous, but that's just the 90s, and Image in particular, lol.

>>153954798That's good thing. Mirage Karai/Image Karai is not a good person, but she also has her own style to leading her Foot Clan. Look at IDW Karai. Karai being a Shredder, or a descendants/adopted daughter of Shredder never give her some interesting thing. Aside from the hype, if the writers need the real Shredder, they always make her Shredder's dog again.

The whole cyborg thing felt like they had the idea that they want Donnie to become a cyborg, but little idea on how to get there. So a bunch of random cyborg guys looking like they wandered in from Dark Reign 2 just started blasting, died like chumps and conveniently their robot parts are actually some sort of techno-organic parasite (isn't that the same thing that affects Cable from Marvel?) and one decides to merge with Don.For how important those cyborgs were they really felt like they came and went. We don't even know what the cyborg armor was and where it came from. But they really wanted Cyborg Don.The Komodo clan was pretty cool tho.
