Often, morally neutral characters are just as badly written as the good ones with few to zero serious challenges to overcome or if such are presented the answer is always bland, mamby pamby moralizing. A ton of evil characters are also written as badly but there is a slight chance for the writers to tell painful truths with such in a way that neutral and good characters are almost never permitted to. A lot of marketed products take the sin out of the story due to censorship laws or just trying to get those lucrative G Rated dollars. Unfortunately, this prevents deeper analysis of life and character and it gets tedious when you see yet another product where the heroes win with little to zero sacrifice, gloating their way to victory and feeling so, so sorry for anyone who isn't them.
