The thing I do like about Jax is that while he's an asshole, he's not a villain. Caine was the only villain in the show, and you can feel however you want about his redemption, but Jax was not the bad guy. Many people thought he would be due to his personality and the poster, but in the end he was only a villain to himself. He never plotted to destroy anyone, and while he was an ass to everyone around him, he genuinely cared about every single one, and ultimately abstracted due to blaming himself for the friends he lost and his own isolation. I've seen so many shows where characters like him just become complete monsters who need to be taken down or hugged into submission, and Jax never reaches those lows and isn't able to be saved. Not because he is unredeemable, but because his inner pain pushed him into abstraction.I have a lot of thoughts about how they tackled the situation, but I like the idea by itself. Rather than the show ruining the character by forcing a big villain storyline, they kept it as an emotional storyline of people dealing with grief rather than a battle between good and evil. More cartoons should learn from that. Though I fully expect the main takeaway from normies is that he's as bad as The Deep or Homelander and deserved his fate.
