I've always disliked the idea of abstraction as a metaphor for suicide from the start bc technically, it isn't a physical death or erasure. I kinda like the early description which it represents a state of mind where you lose your sense of individual self. His whole problem is his resistance to giving up that identity and becoming part of the group, so to make that be his tragic chosen fate is self-contradictory.

So, maybe Jax's arc can be seen in a positive light, like, he follows the logic of the environment so closely as to break it. He rejects stable relationships to keep himself and others from becoming content.I don't really buy into the traumatic backstory either. It's not the real substance of any relationship. Imagine that Ribbit only brought up her regrets in order to introduce negativity into their world of constant positivity, whimsy, etc.? It seems a mistake to treat as an end in itself. Maybe this goes against my previous response and your desire to see closure...assuming there will be no more eps, this seems the best takeaway imo.
