Dani's students walked into a trap set up by Donald Pierce and his Reavers with Pierce stabbing Laurie. Kevin attempted to use his powers to kill Pierce but was stopped by Dani while one of the Reavers, Josh Foley, found out he was a mutant with healing powers. Josh saved Laurie but was abandoned by his friends and family and so with no choice joined Xavier's. He started off hanging around Julian Keller but after using his powers to revive the comatose Magma the two fell out. Julian had also sent away a homeless girl who then seemed to attack Luna DePaula, barista at the local coffee shop the students frequent.Today is New Mutants #9-13.Previous >>154163546

Specter seems like someone they had an idea for, then he got lost in the shuffle during Academy X and moved off of the Hellions. I wonder if bringing Kevin back scuttled whatever plans they originally had for him.

They're not put on pedestals as people to be admired and worshipped because they're gay, it's just part of their overall characters. David's black and again that informs some of his character, like his relationship with Josh, but you're not supposed to think he's amazing for being black or like he's some kind of savior meant to represent his race or anything like that.There's a lot of people who will bitch and moan but I think for most people the bigger problem comes from how hackneyed and forced a lot of it is and the way it's presented as if the reader is supposed to be amazed, the books and writers scream at the reader to praise them but the characters are ultimately shallow which I think for the non-culture war types is where the issue actually comes from. It just becomes easy for them to get sucked into culture war stuff that way.

Mystique and Sabertooth went to Moira's research facility, detonated a bomb that trapped Rahne and Moira under the debris. Then Bishop and Wolverine saved Rahne from Sabertooth and Rogue was fighting Mystique. During that fight it was that Rahne lost her powers. Meanwhile Moira was rescued by Wolverine and Bishop but at that time she was already dying because of the effects of the Legacy Virus.

Flores sent Cloak and Dagger after the group but after an initial confrontation, the heroes realized they'd been duped and after having the whole thing explained to them promised to get in touch with the Avengers when they got back to New York. But the Pride's mole tipped them off and the Pride was able to ge to Cloak and Dagger first and mindwipe them. The mole also tipped off Flores about their hideout so he and some LAPD riot cops showed up to take them in. The Runaways were able to escape, though, and for that and endangering the children Geoffrey Wilder finally killed Flores. The group also learned the Pride's history, that they were working with the Gibborim to destroy humanity and give their children paradise. But unknown to to them, the Deans and the Hayeses planed to betray the rest of the Pride so only they and their children would get to enjoy it.

Typically I'm not bothering with letter pages because 99% of the time they're not really interesting but I'll post this one for obvious reasons.That wraps up the first volume of Runaways and like with the Academy X characters it'll be a while before we return to them. But next time it's back to muties and New York for NYX #1-4 and the debut of X-23.
