Anya Corazon was a normal high schooler until coming across a battle in the park, at which point she was mystically given powers. She learned she was a Hunter for the Spider Society and joined up with them in order to fight their enemies, the Sisterhood of the Wasp, as a superhero. Today will be Araña #1-4.Previous >>154340387

Issue 2
>Anya-chanOh dear, either she's supposed to be Japanese-American or she's a smelly otaku.
Issue 3
Lynn is legitimately the best character in this book and it's a shame she's completely dropped afterwards. I'd rather have Anya bouncing off of characters like her than being stuck with Spider-Verse shit.
>>154357696I never did read this era of Spider-Man. The totem stuff always weirded me out. What exactly were the Wasps doing that would bring forth a "Dark Age where they will rule supreme"?Surely Janet, or maybe even Hank, would have something to say about that at any point.
>>154358705I don't think anyone knew what the Wasps were actually doing. The whol series has the feeling of someone just making it up as they go and there are mysteries and twists introduced when Avery would have known the book was being cancelled and none of it's answered. It's not that this is the worst book ever, not even close, but you can see the difference between something like the first volume of Runaways which is tightly plotted and something likew New Mutants/Academy X where the plotting might be looser but the events generally flow well into each other and things that had been set up come to a head naturally.Versus a book like this where that level of care in the plotting isn't really there. Like the writer has the notion of a big plan but isn't really sure what she wants to do or even what the book should be about and focuses too much on the things she's not as good at or aren't actually as interesting as she thinks (all the Society shit).
Issue 4Sorry for taking longer than normal to start. My internet crapped out for a bit.
I wish these recap pages didn't have the credits so I could just skip them.
I think this is the only time in the series that Anya meets up with any kind of pre-existing character. There's a one shot after the series is cancelled that wraps up (barely) some stuff to basically write out the whole Spider Society/Wasps shit where she teams up with Spider-Man for real but it's technically not part of the ongoing (I'll include it anyway though).
>>154358922The Guyver like suit is a neat concept but I think the execution could be a lot better.
Another plot point that will never be resolved or addressed because he, like the rest of Anya's supporting cast, disappears.
That's it for today. Next time will continue this series with Araña #5-8.
>>154359421That's basically the crux of the series in general. It really needed someone with a better handle on writing rather than someone getting it because they were the protege of the guy writing Spider-Man.
>>154357733I just do it when it's convenient for me and mid/late afternoon is it.
Arana bump
Reading through the storytime it seems that many plot points were left hanging, but there was a real closure to the main story? My only contact witn Anya is during that Ms. Marvel tie in with Civil War when Carol acts like a cunt toward Julia and Anya watch it from the sideline.
>>154365825The Araña/Spider-Man one shot that came out after the ongoing basically separates her completel from the Spider Society and totem stuff but that's it. Spider-Island maybe brings closure to the Wasps but what's done there has so little to do with what's seen here that I don't think you can count it.Honestly, one gets the impression that Marvel kind of considered Anya a failure and maybe even minor embarassment. The Ms. Marvel stuff led to her losing her powers and she was effectively shelved. There's the League of Losers arc from Kirkman's Marvel Team-Up where she's quickly killed in the first issue (but time travel shit means it was an alternate universe) and the MC2 version in Spider-Girl who steals Mayday's body in an arc in blatantly on the nose commentary about what DeFalco thought of the character. There's also the Nomad back ups in Captain America just before Grim Hunt where Rikki meets Anya and initially thinks she's an annoyance who doesn't know what she's doing but that's pretty quickly reversed and they become best friends until Rikki's killed in Onslaught Unleashed.By 2010 though Marvel was seemingly done with May so killed off Mattie Franklin and brought back Anya as Spider-Girl and gave her an ongoing... which got canned after only a few issues.
