I feel like this comic's popularity was singularly mauled by giving the dude this haircut.
popularity? It wasnt just there to fill space on the page?
>>154562291RIP Oliver Tree
>>154562291The movie also bombed due to how stupid it looked
How were The Beatles successful then?
>>154562291Bruhhhh look at this DUDE...
Oh yeah, it's definitely the hair.
>>154562291This mofo lead an army that kicked the ass of a French army ten times its size. Don't diss the haircut, man.
>>154562291That's how hair was in days of yore
>>154562385Because they still looked sexy
>>154563062Prince Valiant would be considered a long-haired hippie back in his time.
>>154562304Literally one of the most influential comic strips of all time.
>>154562291When you are very strong, no one can judge your appearance for fear of reprisals.
>>154563355I forgot the image.
>>154562291Didn't he start out like that?
>>154563370Notice he has his hair covered in this one though.
This was back when culture was for intelligent white people. Foster was trying to create an authentic feeling historical comic for people who respected their Anglo-Saxon history and mythology and it's importance and influence on us. Kids would read books that modern college kids use ChatGPT to summarize for them Hal Foster could not imagine that in 90 years time culture would become so muttified that they would look at a historical haircut and thing "damn that dude corny as hell"
>>154564264It looked like shit, cope
>>154564279Perfect example of a muttified modern man here.
>>154564384No, you faggot
>>154562291Why is Koume there?
>>154564403You are a disgusting mutt.
>>154562291It was hugely popular for many decades even with the silly haircut. But without Hal Foster drawing it who cares. It's okay for things to get old and fade away.
>>154564457You are that
>>154564487>N-no U!!Nice try.Anyway, the comic was popular for decades when America was white. Then it wasn't and it became unpopular. The fact that you can't fathom that and your inability to consider history before your own existence tells me you are the mutt here.
>>154564502Mic sneeding
I'm saddened that Prince Valiant doesn't get as much recognition, he's doomed to be eventually forgotten despite being there in the very beginning
>>154564502It stopped being popular decades ago
>>154564798is that a Jojo character?
>>154564938America has been spiritually (and then literally) brown for decades, yes.
>>154564992>>154562291Wrong
>>154562291Where do I start with this guy?
>>154566553At the start.
>>154563294John's best work was in, oddly enough, in Cracked magazine; Too bad I think the collection of John Sevrin's comedy work is done in a pretty low quality reproductionthanks Mort Todd
>>154562291Hal Foster is GOATtoo bad modern cartoonist can't draw or learn to draw from manga (which is even worse than not being able to draw at all)
>>154562291There's a reason why the cartoon adaptation gave him a more adventurous mullet instead
>>154562291Aleta is so far out of his league it's just sad. It's an early take on a wimpy self insert who is the best guy ever. Note also an early use of the man being darker than the love interest in some way. Which is all too bad. Otherwise it's one of the best adventure stories in all of comics.
>>154567030>which is even worse than not being able to draw at allPetty seethe.
>>154562291What comic?
>>154563197Long-haired men in his time were vikings
>>154564022He's wearing armor and mail which has the consequence of having his hair covered. Practicality and usefulness >>> aesthetics
>>154563370That knigga's wearing a skirt!
>>154567030Hiding behind Hal Foster while denigrating manga is a bitch move.
>>154567729Okay but why did it give him such dainty feminine kissable lips. This is deeply upsetting.
>>154572365That's less a shot at manga and more a shot at weebs who think drawing things "In their style" is an excuse to never improve.
>>154563294Literally who
>>154564502Damn, you sure sound mad.
>>154567030Kneel. Manga won and your refusal to learn from manga is why comics are culturally dead
>>154572560Tradd Moore btfo.
>>154562291Nice hilt!
>>154562291This is your reminder that Prince Valiant is still on-going. It turns 90(!) next year.
>>154572682Fuck off
>>154563056This is a different hairstyle.
>>154564264Nobody wore that hairstyle in the Middle Ages, you stupid /pol/ nigger.
>>154574621Boing Flip
>>154572660Stop being ignorant and proud. This is why the literacy rate is so bad in the US.
>>154575680Because people don't know literally who comic book artists?
>>154574621Fuck off, namefag! I thought you were banned and I thought I was safe. Now I had to go back to my brief hiatus because of you.
>>154573571It's a reasonable approximation of something that would be worn in the era as researched by a man in the 1930's with limited visual resources.
>>154575790He's off by almost 1000 years. Apparently it's more of a renaissance thing.
>>154572682Based.
>>154562291People just don't read newspapers. The rest of the thread is trolling
>>154563294when did he publish? becuase if what you are was true this guy was MASSIVELY influential in italy and argentina
>>154577649No
>>154572552It was meant to appeal to girls at the time so they could imagine themselves kissing those lips. You might be gay.
>>1545780101937 is when he started, which is before Superman for those keeping count.A lot of early comic books are full of trace jobs of comic strips, Foster, Raymond, Hogarth, and more. They were the big leagues of comics. And yes, American comic strips were massively popular in Europe. If they weren't directly influential on the general populace, they'd still have been seen by artists.
>>154562291What's wrong with the hair you stygian dog?
Literally Dapper Maxxing.
Can you guys recommend me any good medieval inspired comics? I kinda like Prince Valiant.
>>154580232That’s longer
Bump
>>154580232Why did they give him goth girl bangs?
>>154562291This is unironically an authentic medieval knight haircut. For centuries shorter hair than this was considered to be for slaves.
>>154575714Because the image literally runs down a brief summary of the artist and you choose not to read it.
>>154581670could at least post his comics.
>>154562291So, what is the appeal of this guy again?
>>154564798Western Astolfo be like:
>>154585370His comic had the best art in the industry
>>154582873Or priests.
>>154582709Blame Frank Frazetta.
>>154585397>Astolfo
>>154585623Blame Howard for describing him having a square cut mane.
>>154574621says you
>>154562310There was a movie? I looked it up, there were three movies. And when you look at his costume, it looks ok. It just looks like a stage play with idolised costumes.
>>154580232>>154580324Ok, now i understand why >>154563021 had this haircut.
>>154582988The point being that they're literal whos.
>>154562291Would you take this guy seriously?
>>154562291How the hell did this hair become the joke of hairstyles?
>>154588921It's become a Japanese woman's cut.
>>154563056>>154563062a literal dick shaped headhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LzPqEGtYnE
>>154562291For me it's the insanely good art
>>154588906If he was going to take my head of I would take him seriously for sure.
>>154586960The haircut doesn't make the man. Take for example Logan/Wolverine.
>>154580232Conan the Aztec
>>154586947>And when you look at his costume, it looks ok.But the haircut looks incredibly stupid. Even Wagner agrees that he looked silly and was rightfully mocked for it
>>154575790>It's a reasonable approximationIn other words, I'm right.
>>154590737Incredible hairstyle—aesthetic and iconic.>>154580232literally a different hairstyle,fag>>154580324>A total 10/10 Chad had to ruin his appearance because a comic book artist didn't read the right history books. And he looks better than in the comic.
>>154591005Prince Valiant is anachronism stew and doesn't try to be historically accurate at all.
>>154572682Manga is just a bunch of retreaded Speed Racer bullshit

>>154592626Capeshit is way more samey.
>>154562291Where could I actually read his comics?
>>154562291This guy is pretty badass.
Why is there a thread devoted to an poster unable to get over a haircut from a comic from the 1930s?
>>154595342yeah. what about it?
>>154572552
>>154596753Edit 2.

>>154597075The actor complained about this shit so bad, saying he couldn't get laid the entire time he had this haircut.
>>154562291The only way ur gonna make Prince Valiant relevant to today's comic readers is by either>putting him in some sloppy porn animation that causes him to be relevant for a month on short form social media while you re-tool the comic into goonbait like something from Top Cow productions. Ditch newspaper, go straight to webor>relaunch the comic into something about getting over a mental illness of the week for him to fight a sexy black girl viking or dominant visigoth girl but also they never fight, just therapy speak until they're friends. Ditch print, go to web publishingAlso get rid of that yee yee ass haircut.
