The best explanation I've found is that the Meat/Candy bullshit regarding sexuality and gender is a symptom of Hussie taking the piss out of fandom culture as a whole. The epilogues and HS2 are Hussie's way of shitting on the fans who were more concerned with shipping and Tumblr bullshit than the actual quality of the story, but ALSO shitting on the fans who fixated too much on the story's quality and desiring coherency and consistency. That's why post-HS stuff undermines the happy ending of the comic and how regardless of the timeline, the characters are objectively in far worse positions than they were previously. People have already labeled Meat as the hard/bitter/edgy/dark"canon" timeline for plotfags while Candy is the fluffy/sweet/tumblrbait/"fanon" timeline for shipfags.It's not a very smart idea because Homestuck 2.0 (which is what the Epilogues and HS2 were originally part of) is still TECHNICALLY a thing and the whole selling point of post-Homestuck content is that "everything is canon" including fanmade content. Homestuck 2 is poisoned by the fact that it has to abide by the metaphysics that Hussie laid out (nothing matters and nothing is canon, only the parts you decide) while having to ignore said metaphysics to serve as an official canon continuation of what readers have been following in order for the plot points in HS2 to make any sense to begin with. And that would be fine if HS2 wasn't incoherent and if Hussie was invested in having the plot points and character throughlines be emotionally believable. Logically, certain things make sense but there's no real build-up or connective tissue within Homestuck for things to play out as they do in HS2. It feels like all of the most ridiculous schizofanon being played straight, like the ancient ass posts about Grandpa Harley molesting Jade.
