Elise is a fan of the game and wants the champion title. So Elise kicks Dan's butt initially, (while rubbing it in and telling him he's rubbish) so he has to sabotage his way through his various opponents in real life or in-game to make them lose, thus cheating his way out of the losers bracket to later re-fight Elise in the final round, which he only barely wins because of the skills (or tricks) he figured out fighting the others.
